I had already purchased this frame when I saw this video. I just finished building it flew it yesterday for the first time. It flys great. As for durability only time will tell. But I’m happy with it so far.
I also bought this frame, so far extremely happy with it.
Third this. I built this frame and I absolutely love it!
Update?
I think you were actually reviewing the Master 5 (HD). The Master 5 has a great design. I have no idea why they didn't use the same metal front end.
Hi Josh B. I am planning this frame to be my first 5" build. Thought I would mention the camera mount plate to the aluminum comes with a thin rubber isolation pad between aluminum and camera mount plate I thought that was good TP (thought process) not toilet paper. Wish you a great day. Want to visit Orlando next time your there. Timing is everytihng...
So funny, i ordered this frame this morning from RDQ.
There is a lot of "me-too-ism" going on in frames at the moment so I think it's important to form opinions based on actual hands on experience rather than conjecture based on looking at photos.
Yup! Ass he is
Yeah, bardwell's no mechanical engineer. I totally disagree with him about the nose, but speedybee went and "fixed" it, anyway due in no small part to shitty sales from this video. Not great, Bardwell.
but silicone stand insert for ESC/FC stack - that's OMG? on super sharp turns - it will wobble for sure! only me seeing this?
Joshua, hi! I have a regular version of this frame and the design of the front part in it is very different from the HD version. It is much stronger and thought out much better.
And I see that usual version is more TRUE X than HD version. Looks like usual version is more thoughtful. Looks like HD version was maded in hurry.
I built this frame.the HD version. I love it. it has been perfectly durable so far no breaking only bent props it flies like a dream and has 3 or 4 innovative features that i haven't seen in other frames. Tldr: I bought and built it and I love it and fly it every chance I get.
What 4 innovative features?
I used this frame for my new O3 5” build. It has a O3 heat sink, is very rugged and a bit heavy… unfortunately it is expensive… I think it’s true X…
I already sold some these dual safe parallel boards but I want to improve for the community. :)
@joshuabardwell I just assembled the frame it feels pretty sturdy but we will see! Thanks for the video!
Is the “Lever arm” \ camera cage connected with more than the two front screws?
@@b1icky on the bottom it’s just the 2 front
The non HD version with the shorter front end is the one with the secondary mounting points on bottom of the the aluminum camera cage. You were kind of looking at 2 different frames.
Any 03 mounting options?
@@creationlabsinc.189 yes the HD version is made for the O3 air unit. With a mounting plate and cooling fins included. Just make sure you option for the longer camera cable so it will reach the front. They give u the choice to add when purchasing
One of my flying buddies bought this frame, and I'm glad you pointed out the issues in the front end, I was really close to buying it. I've only been flying the JB QAV-S, and it's the only frame in my possession that I can easily just pick the drone back up and keep flying after a crash (unless I break electronics, but that's another story). Would love to see a revised 2023 version of it!
If they would have extended it from the tip of the lever and made the standoff from the aluminum front end it would work like a truss.
I rather have the forces being absorbed by the 10$ top plate, then destroying a 80$ O3 camera.
You're 100 percent correct this happens slightly on my qav-s se very rarely on the counter sunk screws. I get stress fractures. it was because the counter sunk is close to the edge. The cnc is strong and holds true. Its designed well and all and all it takes a hard hit. I'm challenged to break it. Any crash I replace stand offs because the cnc is so strong if they shift backwards they'll twist the carbon or cause constant stress. if the render tied it in by wedging that piece in or so you can screw it in the bottom possibly. When you flipped it and it was missing major issue. The Standoff is to far back and definitely will shift and pull the top apart.
In underview... there seems to be an aluminum heatsink for the air unit... nice thought...
Yes there is a heat sink that connects to an aluminum plate that the O3 mounts to. The aluminum plate has a cut out running under it to allow for cable management as well.
@@time_4_flight well that's a +...
Yeah but that opening for the heat sink which us analog guys would use for the VTX doesn't appear to be present on the regular
frame just the HD frame
The non hd version has a little arm there for support
The Frame is great 👍 I bought it, built it, and used it.. The quad frame is fine for freestyle!!! people think they are gonna use their Quad as a basher. You need that space for the humoungus capacitator provided by speedybee and the fat gauge wire that will have to loop around so that the plug comes out of the frame. bottom line is it a better frame than 90% of the frames out there.
This video is what happens when smart people overthink things. I built this frame as well and I love it! It flies like a dream and, so far, has been exceptionally durable.
bypassed the obvious. the isolation silicone is at least debatable if not questionable. some developer discussion presumed the flight-noise will move lower in Hz making it more difficult to filter. but this is not tested yet that i know of. it may or may not negatively affect flightware performance -- ask yourself how are the filter supposed to filter the motor noise if the noise is isolated from the FC.
your final question answers itself, if the fc is isolated then there will be no noise to filter, if the frame oscillations were in the realm of 50hz it wouldn't matter if the fc was mounted to silicon or not there would still be noise in that realm
i suppose i could see that POV, however, my point is that in flightware, some noise is good for flight controls (code).
i believe this isolation of the FC is not overall good for what we do in FPV, especially any aggressive maneuvering. this is the same concept of soft-mounting motors. soft-mounts are essentially a physical filter, and thus reducing the efficiency of flightware. don't soft-mount motors, don't soft-mount FC's with exception of grommets.
yep hear where you're coming from but I fail to see the difference between soft mounting with grommets and soft mounting with the included mounts in the frame, both hardness of mount is substantially firmer than the included grommets with fc's, sure you shouldn't soft mount a motor that speaks for itself as you'll dampen the torque action, but the only difference I see with this design is elimination of vibration from. the frame to the fc via the mounting screws
Does anyone broke up the frame?
man too bad you need a longer cable on hd version like the cushion for stack
Don't think for a minute they haven't run finite element analysis (FEA) on this frame. I am an engineer that works with FEA routinely and at a glance, I think you have over thought it. I do not see it as a problem. Sorry JB :(
A friend of mine has bought it on the base of how it looks to compliment excellent AOS5.5v2. I helped to tune it (Speedybee one) and even on default BF4.4 settings it had strong frame resonance between 40 and 50 Hz. Absolute deal breaker. I attribute it to stack soft mounting which in my personal opinion is a meaningless and terrible innovation. Frame was sold in a two days after arrival:(
PS: found comment from NerdCopter and totally agree with him.
I don't really think metal front ends are more durable. When you crash face first into something with a metal front end, it bends and ruins it. Or at least that has been my experience with all the frames I ever had that had metal front ends. When you take the weight into consideration as well, it just seems like a bad design choice to me.
Best 03 frame yet. I hate to say it because its speedybee… but it rocks. Just not very strong.
I HAVE 2 OF THIS FRAMES AND FRAME IS FANTASTIC. 2nd facts is that if you crash 99,0% arms will suffer first and take major impact, arms are exposed to outer limit, not body. And 3rd if you crash realy hard, there is no frame that will survive. So what we are talking about?
agree, the other thing to note is the lever action that is talked about would almost never occur, a frontal impact would actually distribute the force better with the angular design when compared to a straight standoff, it will direct that force more horizontally to be distributed more evenly between the top and bottom plates
imo JB is underestimating the strength of carbon fiber, and the weak point drawn at 14:45 is an extremely odd place for an impact, especially given the top-mounted battery.
Honestly, if i bought that frame and saw that big gap with no standoff, I would just drill a hole and put a standoff or jam-nutted bolt. I agree that it is a stupid design, but that is a really easy fix to have a really good frame.
Geez, you would think Mr. Bardwell has some magical ability to judge frames simply from a picture! What a bunch of bloviating BS! That frame “issue” is likely a complete non issue except maybe in some odd corner case crash. So I watched the whole thing and learned nothing.
Its junk
Heloo Joshua Would you want to review my parrarel charging board? I would be very glad to hear your opinion.
