DRONE FOOTAGE OF MASSIVE WAVES IN NEWQUAY, CORNWALL, UK

- We were lucky enough to score some light enough winds to get out there with our DJI Inspire X5R drone on a huge day at our local big wave spot "The Cribbar" in Newuqay. Enjoy!

Big waves, seriously big waves. You need a lot of courage to go out there. I remember Rodney Sumpter was one of the first, maybe the first to ride this wave decades ago. Great video, wish it was longer!
I surfed it sometime in the early/mid 70s and there were only two of us out.neither of us knew of its reputation or we wouldn't have gone out because we were both gromms( learners) .it was pretty exciting and we got a couple of rides each, but the rocks nearby spooked us a bit and we came in after about an hour.
How I miss Cornwall. Have lived in U.S. for 40 years now (got married and then divorced!). Have been home many times but it is so expensive to live there now there is no going back at 67!
Looks sweet! Super clean and big. Nice song pick too. Can't go wrong with Pentagram.
Pentagram ? Thanks . For naming that tune .
Love the drop at 50 seconds, he almost made that, he must have thought he'd nailed it.
Wow, that's huge. Thanks for posting.
Oceanic Power Wave!!!!! Aloha from Brasil
Excellent footage
Huge waves and those surfers a bit overwhelmed
Know that spot well - awesome waves there sometimes and cool to have a drone hovering over and filming
Nice work
I've been to Cornwall to visit Eden Project ...enjoying magic mushrooms with friends. My god, it was soooo awesome! Loved every second of it.
@@nico-em7qu Google it. It's in the Cornwall area. It's so worth seeing for real!
Those waves..... perfect 👌
0:52. Nice bounce. Poor guy. He had a ton of speed too.
How did you bookmark the time in the comment? On mobile?

Love this so much!!
Great footage. 😃👍🏄🏽
This is epic! reminds me of one time I saw a freak set break about a mile further out than this, on a warm sunny afternoon, I swear it sounded like an earthquake and it was a once in a lifetime, anyone else seen this?
Similar up the coast near Lands End in Oct 1987, not the big storm that was on the news, but a couple of weeks before that a big low came through and before the wind swung round and went on-shore, for a couple of hours just after first light it was off-shore. I was on a little campsite over looking this particular bay and knew the swell was coming, I set my clock for about 6.30 and when I woke up you could hear the lip of the wave coming over and hitting the water with a deep resonating boom. I got up and there it was - absolutely massive and off-shore. It was probably mid-week, and way before social media, so all the local boys from Penzance were probably all asleep or getting ready for work. There were two other blokes on the campsite Simon and Guy Irving and their Dad Bill, none of them were that good a surfer and this was way too big for me to go out in on my own and we had to be content with just witnessing it for that hour or so. By 8.30 the wind had swung round and it became massive walls of white mush as the storm came in.
thanks sounds like a similar thing, great story perhaps good thing you didn't surf it sounds dangerous :)
Energzied you mean "zorbas reef", breaks about 1k out off pentire headland and twice the size of the cribber. Very rare it breaks though.
Once I was at Sennen, the waves weren't particularly huge like in this video, but they were something else, something I'd never seen or heard before, the wind was just right, and the waves broke so absolutely perfectly it sounded like the ocean floor cracked.
Amazing !
Awesome vid great footage
Great video!
Great footage
Whoo Newquay! Go wave!
Impressive footage
Thank you so much ! I heard about this huge wave and witnessed perhaps what I thought might be The Cribbar working . I see now , the wave is massively bigger than I imagined . Or , I never saw waves so big and powerful before off The United Kingdom.
I saw massive waves at Bantham beach in Douth Devon once . I was with family , but I don't think anyone had a camera . I don't think I did anyway .
I kind of lead my family in Surfing knowledge. Lead them gently by the hand as my father believes the expression of perfect English is the true mark of intelligence . Being able to express oneself clearly . He believes to be a desirable trait due perhaps to his Grammar School background .
I am kicking myself we never got even a poor quality photograph of Big Bantham . This video is a real treasure.
It's brilliant ! Is that the end of the headland off Little Fistral near the end of the video ?
Perhaps the statement I heard : When the Cribbar works , it's possible to paddle out to it from Newquay Harbour or Towan beach which might be relatively calm ...(compared to Fistral , I assume )... The Cribbar breaks out off the headland... ( off meaning, perhaps the waves break kind of out at sea. Further out than even the tip off a massive protruding headland near Little Fistral ) .
Well folks , I thought I had Fistrsl big . But this is B.I.G ! I appreciate how dangerous this is and the incredible strength probably required to paddle into such a wave without a tow.
What incredible athletes. Yes, a Surfer . Is REALLY tough !
Wow and so clean. Drool.
Amazing. Wish I could go.
Nice swell, good conditions. Surprising the waves did not line up better
Nice waves!
I surfed there about 1972. it was rough, terrible but not as big as in this video. Worked at the Bay Hotel.
Poor chap who wipes out dropping in at 54 seconds bounces!! Sweet video
awesome vid
This is the cribbar in Newquay... verrrrry rare occurrence... I live here and trust me it’s difficult to 🏄♂️
The widow maker... that's brilliant Arial footage, thank you
Total mushball looks fun though!
wow one of the best footages i have seen in a while. I would love to surf one day but i am afraid though lol
They were too however they clearly said fuck it. What better way to learn
@@ZwhoHeBe929 I can think of one, smaller waves ! lol ! It certainly wasn'y any of those guys first day !
0:31 good choice!
52 . .."YIPEE !!! YIPEEEEEEE !! . ...YIP-AAAAArrrghllllllll....gurgle"
That hurt !!
It's so beautifully terrifying indeed!! I salute those men n women alike who love to venture the open sea....
Why don't you say people, not much terrifying going on though, beautiful indeed
@@martynweigh4541why don’t you be quiet
Was there actually somebody paddleboarding there??? I was like WTF?!?!!? pmsl. Incredible drone footage!
Yes the Paddleboarder at The Cribbar was awesome as he gave a scale to the waves .
Great footage. Who'd have thought there'd be waves like that in Cornwall UK? Would love to have seen a successfully handled takeoff and someone working the wave. Not for lack of trying; probably a lot heavier than what the average local Cornish surf bloke is used to. Those are serious waves.
Watch Rob Fowlie surf it. Check his Instagram. He charges
Yes , they need big wave riding boards. And possibly a tow in from a Jet Ski to handle this size of wave . One guy did very well to make the drop.
One guy seemed to be very determined to catch the wave. But he wiped out real bad.
Some type of underwater disturbance appeared to be going on .
That would terrify me if I was Surfing there .
It's beyond my skill and fitness levels. The Cribbar would perhaps put me to sleep.
It's more of a Spectator sport than participation . Yet , so difficult to commercialise .
wow!
On fistrall beach body boarding in those waves is mad not even kidding you just get swept away by the swash lmao
I was there I couple of months ago
Hardcore !
That's a real Hokie song for some Hokie guys flopping around on their surfboards. Anyhow good job filming with the Drone
Whats the song ? Love it !!!
I've surfed on these waves
We're in newquay was this taken?????
I live in Newquay . 🤗
I live locally and surf anyday its good yearround. Its my dream to surf the cribbar some day, but tbf I'm nowhere near good enough yet. Gotta dream tho;)
It's alright mate, none of this crew were up to standard either. You'll get there.
@@bh2861 a year later going back binge watching cribbar footage. Lot closer now. Got an 8 foot gun to train on big stuff, planning to be on cribbar by next winter
Been on it yet the rock breaks a no go for most of us
🌊🌊🌊🌊
whats under water taken up by wave on left at 0:36
0:40 little rainbow made by the waves
I’ve kayaked it
.. and no one could surf 🏄♂️🤔
Does Tommy Greene still live in Newquay and surf there?
I would love to surf but I live in the midlands 😅
U not a tree , you can move 🏄🏿♂️, one life , live it
Never surfed in life but i imagine they needed to paddle to get some speed up an go at more iv angle once on feet 😂,😢 ,wouldve been amazing to be out there
The storm is back 18/02/2022
😎
I thought they only played futbol and drank and pubs in the UK...
How long have they been surfing there ??
Ages mate
this is Cornwall my dude its our thing
@@jacobrichards5410
That's cool man , A lot of people skate and surf in the UK , I gotcha man..
Are a percentage of surfer also futbol fans?
any one what this song is called
Newquay doesn't get big very often and man doesn't it show in the people surfing it.
Never understood why the ASP even go there.
Newquay is bigger than Hawaii North Shore
Today it was 0 feet
Only big for England. Much bigger waves in the Baltic esp the polish and German coast
You're dead right Bob.
The music not moving me
Richard
Nice sub from us at Bath drone
Big waves in England? Well I never!
holy fuck
Gee Cornwall or Hawaii- Cornwall it is lol.
4 foot Hawaiian, 20 foot UK and surfers use probably 8 foot boards or bigger. Hawaiians use a 5’10 in conditions bigger than this which baffles me
Some cool waves and a bunch of goons wiping the fuck out all over.
I miss my South African Durban waves. The uk waves are so tiny. 🙄
But....better than nothing I guess.
Less man eating sharks tho in England, and better accents. Fuckin prawn
Seriously? There's no one in Cornwall who can surf?
Bud you realise this kinda surf hardly ever comes around so we dont get a ton of practice
Also lol thats not even true. Ben Skinner 11× long board champ, Andrew Cotton is from Devon I think but still surfs Cornwall a lot, Tom Butler etc
Bitch please this is a 30 foot wave that comes to Cornwall once a year hopefully and English best surfer Russelwinter who beat Kelly Slater in a heat comes from Cornwall and the whole Skinner fam
@@leotaylor9996 haha, mate alot of people have beaten Kelly Slater in a heat, what's your point? All you eurokooks (french/Portugese exception) need to learn how to firstly bottom and secondly set and hold a rail properly. This video was painful to watch.
If you think that's 30ft then you would fit right in with the kooks over in SoCal. Please that's 10' to 12', max 15' on the sets...and if you're talking about faces then here in Aus and where it counts, we measure waves from the back
@@bh2861 no we measure from back and ure right but we have to measure bye front so kooks understand and Russel winter a couple of years ago who lives in newquay Cornwall got ranked 4th best in the world and Ben is a 3 time world champ longboarder
Kook central
Far be it for me to critique a video of men riding waves of this magnitude but I've never seen a sample of them do worse
Terrible reads on these sets
I would surf it but I’d be shitting it 😂
Surfers not very good but what do you expect from Cornhole?
smoke weed or go with out chocolate parents.paper boy
Who else is here for online geography?
Stand up paddle boarding is for flat water. Is not surfing and in the way of actual surfers.
@Paddy le Blanc that's just an excuse a fat ass would use so he can say he went surfing.
That's what I like to see some sup surfers out there!!
Spoilt by the song
I've taken shits that have made bigger waves than this ...
Not one drop was made. Always thought the northern hemisphere crew were kooks. This video here is evidence of people having a crack at waves when they haven't yet learned to set a rail...
Terrible sound quality
It's the crashing of the waves dude 🤣🤣
Take the music of or learn to sing please
So.... no one actually rode any waves. That’s shithouse
spoilt by horrible music , what a ghastly sound
