  • Hutchinson, KS - The Reno County Housing Commission is proud to announce a year of significant achievements in housing development and community revitalization, thanks to the infusion of ARPA COVID relief funds. The commission's unwavering commitment to enhancing the local housing landscape has led to transformative changes across the county.
    Key Milestones Achieved:
    1. Completion of Over 200 Homeowner
Projects In just one year, the commission has successfully completed over 200 homeowner projects. These renovations have not only improved individual homes but also uplifted entire neighborhoods, creating a ripple effect of positive change throughout Reno County.
    2. Expansion of the Brush Up Hutch Program
Originally focused on Hutchinson, the Brush Up Hutch program has now expanded to cover all of Reno County. With an impressive increase from five projects a year to 95 projects so far, this program has been instrumental in revitalizing homes and enhancing community aesthetics.
    3. Boost to the Local Economy
The local economy has seen a significant boost, with $2.1 million paid to 40 local contractors. This investment has not only improved housing but also provided much-needed jobs and support to local businesses.
    4. Strategic Use of ARPA Funds
The first year of working with local ARPA funding has allowed local housing organizations like Interfaith Housing & Community Development and South Central Kansas Economic Development District (SCKEDD) to drastically increase the volume and pace of renovation work. Several vacant houses in the community have been identified, acquired, completely renovated, and restored. These homes are now available to families and home buyers. With $4 million earmarked for housing-specific needs, these organizations made significant strides in addressing the housing crisis.
    Community and Collaboration
The impact of the Hutchinson Housing Commission’s housing initiatives spreads block by block, gradually transforming neighborhoods. Community involvement has been key, with residents working together to improve their surroundings. The collective effort has made these achievements possible and has been incredibly rewarding for all involved.
