@@kc0isw No, buying Hero 9 over Hero 10 to save money is a very bad idea. Hero 9 has big reliability issues and a lot worse image quality, especially in terms of the DR. Battery life is much better on Hero 10. New GP2 processor in Hero 10 basically fixed all issues of Hero 9.
@@kc0isw there is the new enduro battery that is better, just buty a spare of those. If you shoot burst of photos the Hero 10 is much faster at writing the images to the card, with the older cameras you need to wait much longer to shoot another burst. But if the savings are 100 dollars or more you may consider, accepting more bugs too
Excellent rational comparison and conclusions. As a retired recording engineer I consider sound to be almost as important as picture quality in many situations, so it's a pity you didn't cover that aspect, (including ease of connection of external mics) but I admit to my personal obsession!
Apreciate your input about the Action 2 advantage on the interface. I like the modular design and it's good to know I dont have to worry about navigating the features through a tiny screen.

it is good decision to buy dji actio 2 in december 2023 (how it's battery life in 4k 60 fps in just a camera mod) .i'm living Bangladesh where normal temp is 35 degree .so should i buy it ?

Awesome review man, this is exactly what I needed to know! The comparison between these 3 very well explained is the best we can get. Great comparison footage shown, talk about overheating, and talk about all RS mods. My first actioncam was a ContourHD, very rugged but before the era of mobile connections and settings and now totally useless. Then I got a Hero3+ and Hero4. Now the firmware of the Hero4 is bugged I need a new cam. Hero10 seems obvious as replacement but the overheating issue is holding me back. Now looking to other brands as well I find the RS + 1-inch mod the most interesting for outside the car because of the highest image quality and dynamic range, and probably the DJI Action-2 for POV view between my eyes. Byebye GoPro...

Hi! Im interested to film me&my friends golf sessions just to have memories and my question is do you think I should buy action camera for that or just use my iPhone 13 mini for that ? I think all options have some drawbacks or high price with GoPro 10 when i already have ip13 . Can’t decide is it worth investing for 1 of these cams or just go with iPhone mini. Audio ofcourse is also important to me as I want to clearly hear us speaking while playing
That is a very complex question, so I can't really answer that in a comment. iPhone and action camera are different types of devices, so that mostly depends on your preferences. Both have advantages and disadvantages.

This review was great, I am thinking about getting the one rs but after some research, I realized that you never included the 6k widescreen mode on the 4k boost mod, it is a feature that comes with the base camera.
Without a gimble or walking slowly, which camera has the best footage? Warping or rumble with every step? How about running? My insta360 rs 4k boost lens footage while walking is useless.
Depends on your walking technique, One RS definitely shouldn't be useless, try using different stabilization setting. GoPro and Action 2 might be slightly better, but the difference is not huge.

Street photographers on RUclips don't look like they walk around on their toes. I see them ruining around and the video looks great. However, the footage is usually from a gopro. Please make video on walking techniques, running techniques, and shoes used. Compare and contrast the footage from insta360 w/4k boost lens vs. Gopro. The community would appreciate it.
If you are willing to accept a bit of up and down movement, normal walking is fine. As you can see in this video, RS stabilization is similar to GoPro, so I don’t really know what is wrong there. I only make camera reviews on this channel, sorry about that.
Thanks for your review. I currently vlog on my bike using a pocket 2 and was hoping for a 2nd camera that I could use when it was raining. A fellow local vlogger bought the Action 2, but has since sent it back as it was overheating in 6 minutes (1080p only being filmed), we do live in a got country though. Looking at the other two options neither offer decent low light performance. I was hoping the magnet mount would make the action 2 easy to use when I unmount the bike, but I need it to do more than just that. Have you used anything that would for the bill? Thanks for the video. Am about to send back my action 2 because I've never ever, in under any condition, went more than 8 minutes recording with the smallest resolution and frame rate. I've tried with the thermal case as well, nothing, nada, it always stops between 3 to 8 minutes of recording. What a shame because it was amazing otherwise. Thinking to switch with the insta360.

I wish Insta would offer more lens options. With that big sensor and fixed aperture the sky gets really blown out going in to the sun. Could use a little wider lens with clamped down aperture for bright outside use. No action camera can come close to my Laowa 9mm for full frame plus I get 10bit 4:2:2 on my S1 and 14.5 stops of dynamic range. It's just heavy.
Well, action cameras are not supposed to compete with full frame... The shutter speed can go very high, so I have never experienced any issues with too bright sky.
@@TheHybridShooter of course not, but action cams should shine in outdoor use. So with an Insta 1" only having a ~f/9.5 equivalent having the sun in frame looks horrible. They are making them so they can handle low light too but at the expense of full sun. It'd be nice if the 1" was wider since the main use of the action cam is POV. If only I could get the FOV of the action 2 on the sensor of the Insta with the aperture of the hero 10 and the Insta's ability to not overheat.
@Michael Byrne There is no "expense of full sun". The camera will simply raise the shutter speed to set the correct exposure. You can also use filters. Nothing can help you with "horrible look of the sun in the frame" just don't shoot into the sun... Mechanical aperture in an action camera is a very bad idea, because of the durability requirements. 1" mod is already one of the widest one the market at 14.4mm, which is a good choice for a camera of this type.
Men I wish one of these cameras have 10bit, so I could mix and match witrh A7Siii for films or documentaries. ALL in all instas360 looks most intersting, because I have a7Siii and it has all other features like 120 fps and similar
Mixing and matching 8-bit footage from any of these is completely fine. 10-bit is very overrated in this regard. It would make basically no difference if you are publishing in SDR.
No, that is absolutely not the case. 3 completely new action camera concepts have been released during the last 3 years, action cameras are getting new sensors, better lenses, higher resolution, better processing, better displays, better everything... people just complain too much about everything these days. There is still a huge potential for future upgrades.
Technology will improve significantly. Think about computational photography. You know there's room when you consider how quickly they overheat. 10-bit high dynamic range would also be an enormous advantage. Not to mention 360 cameras, the room for improvement is enormous there. I agree that right now this is the best they could do at this price point.
I think they’re great not complaining, dji 2 is a neat camera , the one thing you didn’t touch upon is the audio, and the audio on the insta is atrocious.
I don't mean you personally, all new products are generally over-criticized nowadays. The improvements on the latest action cameras are definitely not small though. I. have talked about the audio on all 3 in separate reviews.
Disappointed in the DJI action 2 concept. Was looking so forward to its release.. but yeh wish they had stuck to a similar action 1 type camera.😮💨 Personally gna skip all these cameras.. hoping for the DJI pocket 3 to bring the sauce!
I disagree, direct Osmo Action successor would have been just a Hero 10 clone at this point, so I am very happy that DJI did something different with Action 2. If you are looking for Osmo Action upgrade, just buy Hero 10.

You actually should, walking technique is at least as important as the stabilization itself, you even need to use the right shoes for optimal result.

As you can see in the video, I am getting unlimited 4K 25p recording time on A2 with no issues at all, so I can't comment on that.
