I did it!!! Took about an hour to get them in and (I think) aligned. The worst part was getting the stupid plastic clips out of the fender. Those things should be freaking illegal. Plus, getting them fitted into the frame so that the bolts go back in required a lot of jostling. But I got it done!!

great video, very helpful. here are a few comments from someone who replaced their headlights from watching this video
you can use a t-30 bit or an allen wrench (#5). weirdly, a t-35 bit did not fit
if your civic has fog lights, it unclips on the passenger side. the cord isn't long so don't run off w/ the bumper
i used a 14" extension which was plenty long
the hardest part was simply unclipping the wires from the old headlight housing- mine were basically glued together w/ old dirt
putting the bumper back on was surprisingly easy- easier than taking it off

  • @TravelOften
    @TravelOften 2 года назад +6

There's a minor error. You don't need to remove all the clips that hold the curved black rubber air dam like he is doing at 1:31 , just the first two on each side closest to the tires. You can see at 4:22 that the bumper mates with a *straight* panel on the car under the radiator. The car has nothing curved under the radiator, so most of the air dam clips are *not* attaching the bumper.
It's not a big deal, but these clips tend to break upon removal. Removing the wrong ones increases the chances that you're left with broken clips.

This video was extremely helpful and I bought the headlights from you guys and they are perfect. One note for adjusting the aim however that may help others:
The nut to turn to adjust is a Phillips, yes, but it’s also a 10mm head. You can adjust both pretty easily from the top down with the hood open with a 1/4” socket and a shorter 10 mm. You don’t have to do all that finagling with removing the trim and stuff on the passenger side.

So I bought these headlights and installed them. They’re awesome and this video walkthrough helped a ton. Before I did the install I made sure to have a T35 torx bit. I purchased a whole set on Amazon just to get that size. Turns out it’s a T30 torx bit. Save yourself the trouble of finding a T35. The T30s are EVERYWHERE. But seriously...buy these headlights and follow every other part of this video.

Why not just go behind the wheelwell by loosening the wheelwell cover, and turning the wheel inward for better access? Or on the drivers side remove the battery and the fluid reservoir to access the low beam? Both require less tools, time, and is easier? That how I change mine.

Clear plastic will always fade and yellow when exposed to UV rays constantly. The headlight lenses also fade faster because the headlight bulbs are used more often, and burn much hotter and brighter than taillight bulbs.

Good time to replace the bulbs. Don't put in LEDs since the reflectors are not designed for them. You can up grade bulbs but remember the higher power bulbs do not last as long. Personally I would say no blue bulbs I don't like them. Also if your area has snow or fog lower Kelvin bulbs produce less glare.

Video should be titled "How to Replace Headlight Assemblies 06-08 Honda Civic" I was looking to replace just the bulbs and this is way too much work for that. There is an easier way.

None of this is necessary. Whatever happened to doing things the easier way? You can go through the fender by popping down a couple tabs and sliding your hand in there. Anybody who is actually ripping apart the entire front end of this car to do a headlight has no right to be working on cars.

When replacing the whole headlight assembly you have to remove the bumper cover.

+Luis any hardware should be able to be purchased at a local autoparts store.
