    Great video. Your right you can’t raise prices in this type of environment. Went to a wedding this weekend and all the young people were drinking mixed drinks. Wine was an afterthought.

      The 20 someones are not interested in wine. They are drinking beer and mixed drinks. The bell is tolling on the fine market. The wine industry better get going in recruiting the younger segments of the market.

    I'm 38 but not willing to pay over $80 for a bottle of wine. I'm still a novice in the wine world, but I love exploring New World wines because I can get a bang for my buck. I still enjoy sipping rum and bourbon.

    Couldn't agree more. Spent about half the budget I'd set for 2022. Bought Les Carmes, Leoville Barton and La Gaffeliere. The rest of my normal "go to" buys, forget it. Why buy a potentially depreciating asset when I can get 4+% in a savings account? Ok, that's still losing money relative to inflation but losing less money than I would if prices of 2022 fall and I think they will.

    Great video! As someone very new to exploring and collecting wines, your experienced perspective is really helpful to me. I decided to go for some futures for my first time, but I went for what looked like good value and also minimum buys for each. Bellefont Belcier, Grand-Puy-Ducasse, Branaire Ducru, and Suidaraut. We'll see. I was considering Grand-Puy-Lacoste which after hearing you call it the "poor man's first growth" I regret not going for! That wine is hard to find other vintages for less than $100/bottle and I'd love to try it.

    The only way they are going to get the next generation into the fine wine department is to lower the prices back to at least the level of the early 2000s

    It's like the 2009 vintage hype in what Steve Spurrier said in the June 2010 Decanter magazine, quote: "The best ever." He said this was the consensus of buyers and critics. He said that demand would hit record levels and asked "How high is the price for perfection?" I did buy some futures, but I see what you mean.

    As a 26 year old who loves wine and has always dreamed of trying fine wines like first growth Bordeaux and grand cru burgundy, I hope the wine prices fall with the growing disinterest in fine wines

    The logic of fine wines is very relatable to real estate's. We can certainly argue that house prices arise irrationally which is very true, also, it will certainly fluctuate down the road. The big BUT is that 10-20 years from now, house price will be definitely higher than the current level. The fine wine is the same.
    No doubt I agree that 2022 Bordeaux future is ridiculous but they will be sold at higher price in the future. Because wines are agriculture products => each vintage is unique and different, people will always reach out to try them, moreover, the quality of Bordeaux has been improving thanks to more $ and technology.
    Here is the simple fact, 2022 vintage is ridiculous high, but if you don't buy them now, you will either pay more for the same bottle in the future or won't be able to afford them 10 yrs from now.

    Agree with you on the Leoville Las Cases. Last time I indulged was January 2021 when friends brought a 1988. It was actually very elegant, balanced complex and not in your face. But at $500 no thanks. Lynch Bages and Ducru Beaucaillou are other ones I no longer chase. Just too expensive. A few I was able to score recent deals on are, 2014, 2018 Leoville Barton, 2018 Dufort Vivens,, 2018 La Gaffeliere, and 2015 Clos Fourtet.

    IMHO, Latour and Montrose are the most overrated wines in every single vintage

    • @winemoneysong
      @winemoneysong  8 месяцев назад

      I think you are a very privileged person to have sampled every single vintage of these wines to have made that statement. Some of greatest wines ever made on the left bank have come from Latour who has shining record of centuries not decades while most consider Montrose the top St. Estephe. The pricing of these wines is another story. Latour is a first growth and priced as a luxury good so only the 1%er’s play there. Montrose is a 2nd growth that I think is competitively against it’s peers. I agree that fine wine prices are crazy now (look at Burgundy) but I hope that market forces win out. If people stop buying at these levels the prices will come down. If I buy a wine at a certain price but after trying it I refuse to purchase another at the said price then that wine is either over priced thus over rated.
