I don’t know if it’s wan’s style of fighting or not. But the fact that instead of hitting in the face as much as possible like ip man, he chose to mainly hit his body. And a top ranked soldier’s body is tough af, like they’re trained to be very endurable. And aside from the dangerous spot below, the face is the only vulnerable spot in a fist fight against such soldier, and he chose to hit the body, the toughest part. Not only that, there are too much excessive movement which not only tire himself out unnecessarily, but give away his upcoming movements as well. Of course in comparison, wan already barely stood any chance, but his mistake in his way of fighting really made things worse. And to some extent, he’s quite conservative as well, doesn’t open to changes necessary to adapt to his opponent at all. Wan may still lose anyway, but he could’ve done a lot better if he could learn to adapt since his opponent then was not some chinese master anymore, it’s an us soldier.

Exactly, Master Wan relied on something very uncertain, which was his self-defense against Geddes' aggressiveness and survival, in addition to which he trusted too much and even repeated the same attacks without success. Master Wan abandoned his defense and began to focus on the offensive too late, when he was already tired and injured he tried to punch Geddes' face, who is better at direct striking and seems to not only fight Karate, but Boxe and Wrestling, despite having knocked out Master Wan with a Karate kick using his military boots, and also with Master Wan supporting himself on the ground, forcing him to keep his guard down, since, in addition to a broken leg (right), I read in one of the synopses that one of his arms were broken (left) thanks to falls (mainly when Geddes pulls Master Wan's hair in an attempt to make him crash against the ground, and he uses his arms to stop his fall). Geddes used dirty blows, unlike Master Wan who wanted to establish the path of honor until the end, costing him a sad defeat with Geddes giving him a rather fatal Karate kick to the head, in a vital point, in order to do it again with that Master Wan collapsed against the ground, with him again containing his fall but hitting his head on the ground in the process, and Master Wan had already hit his head on the ground many times in other moments when he had to contain his fall, that is, his ability to fall after receiving a blow is flawed, as he himself ends up hurting himself in his falls due to his short stature with little durability and resistance compared to his opponents/enemies, even though some of Geddes' blows inevitably have a lot of power.

Had Wan focused only on defense like he started then he'd might have won just by tiring Boydka out. Oh well it's not written that way anyway, but Wan's Taiji was really gracious

Wan using Tai Chi as his main style Of fighting it would be strategict if he play on defensive And redirect the attack back to his opponent. Tai Chi martial art is mainly fluid and gracefully dodging the opponent.

The spin dodge that Wan did at 47-48 is actually a homage to one of the fights in Boyka.

Geddes only won here so his loss to ip man would be more satisfying. While this is an entertaining fight, it's sloppily and predictably written
