    • @mortensen1961
      @mortensen1961 3 года назад +6

      @@garykloetzel9491: Um, no. He was playing in a jook joint in a rural part of Oklahoma. The joint was lit by burning kerosene in a barrel. Two guys got into a fight over a woman, one of them managed to kick over the barrel, setting the place on fire. BB ran out, then ran back in to get his guitar. He later found out that the fight was over a woman named Lucille, so he named that guitar and subsequent others (including a Fender Telecaster) Lucille to remind himself not to do something so stupid again.

    BB King has more emotion in his little finger than most guitarists have in their entire body. His story from very humble beginnings is a history of the blues in America. The 60s generation of rock guitar players loved him and he was finally the big success he always should have been. When I was a new guitar player my dad brought a BB King album home..."son, you need to listen to this"

    B.B. King was my introduction to the blues, which is one of my favorite styles of music now. I remember in my late teens finding a copy of his album "His Best: The Electric B.B. King" (1968) at our local library. I ended up checking that album out of the library every few weeks. I probably owed them a copy for wear and tear. I will never forget BB King coming to the stage and having a seat in that chair, and absolutely killing. After the first number, he said, "Yeah, I know what y'all are thinking - here's this old man that can't even stand up to play a show, legs no good, back no good, and no good, head probably ain't no good neither... And you'd be right." Then he spent the next two hours burning the house down from that chair.

And one of the great things was: even when this was at quite a big venue (about 15.000 people), the volume wasn't that loud at all, much lower than with most concerts. Yet everyone was silent and just being enthralled by his music. Absolutely two of the greatest concert I've ever been.

    Riley B. King performing on Sonny Boy Williamson’s radio program KWEM in Memphis [1948], the" blooming bluesman" soon gained a following for his unique voice and the way he played his guitar, named "Lucille".
    For the young Riley King, this was an auspicious place to be heard. Williamson brought many of his musician friends from his former radio show "King Biscuit Time" to perform, including Robert Nighthawk, Elmore James, and Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup.
    His rising star resulted in a ten-minute show on the Memphis radio station WDIA that became B.B.’s show, the 'Sepia Swing Club'.
    It was as a guitarist and radio DJ that King adopted the nickname “Beale Street Blues Boy,” which shortened to “Blues Boy” and finally, B.B.

    There are only a few MASTERS of guitar. Segovia. Hendrix. Buckethead. B.B. King's guitar is an extension of himself, and even though it may have been the nicest guitar made at the time, it means nothing unless it's held by the man who knows it up and down, and this man knows. He doesn't play music. He feels music. I feel silly recommended it after but my request still remains Modest Mouse "Teeth like Godshoeshine" and "Dramamine" whatcha waiting for I know you seen one of the hundreds of times I said it. I garuntee Isaac Brock from MM plays guitar like no one you ever heard. He's become a legend unto himself in his time.....but B.B. King is undeniably legend.

    B.B. King died in his sleep on May 14, 2015, at the age of 89 from vascular dementia caused by a series of small strokes as a consequence of his type 2 diabetes. Imagine this guy was doing concerts all the way until he was 88 or 89 years old. Imagine BB King sang at the whitehouse with Pres Obama in 2012 . Great company with a great musician and great president ...rip BB

    That never gets boring no matter how many times I watch it. My biggest regret is never seeing B.B. King live, especially in 2006 when he toured with Gary Moore. My two favourite guitarists together and I couldn't get a ticket. That note as he stood up, WOW! He makes it look so easy to play the blues while putting so much passion into his playing.

    I saw B.B. in concert 5 times and every show was special. The man toured and played right up until the end. He really was the king. It's too bad they're blocking his music, otherwise I would tell you to check out his live performance from San Quentin prison.

    Not alot of notes, but they all had meaning. Interesting, BB couldn't sing and play at the same time. BB was that cool Uncle we all love. One of the GOAT bluesmen! Great reaction.

    Had the pleasure of seeing BB live a couple of times. One particular time I was sat front and centre. At the end of the concert I was standing and I offered my hand up and he graciously shook my hand. That thrill hasn’t gone! I wish everyone well.

    Very nice, later in life live version. Doesn't touch the original. Please do the album version, or at least a quality live version from the 70s. Needs the full orchestra.

    There is only one BB King!!! When you and the one that you loved, are not together anymore, the blues will take over. We have all been there!! But no one sings then like BB King.

    BB is and will forever be the man. There is nobody who gave more of themselves to music than he did. If you were a musician or a music fan of a certain age, the word of BB was essentially the word of god. He surrounded himself with so much talent, and he still stood head and shoulders above them all.
