This was originally a poem from the mid 19th century. It was composed into a song in the mid 20th century. It is one of the most beautiful, intoxicating songs I've ever heard. I grew up on Irish traditional music and songs but it is only now that I'm an adult do I fully appreciate the incredibly rich and wonderful culture that I belong to..
What I love about this lineup is how each singer has a unique voice with a characteristic tone. Prior lineups often had too many members whose voices were very similar, which made the mix feel a bit thin. These three are all different and come together in such a full, rich harmony. Perfection.
So sad that of the three singers only Megan remains since both Eabha and Mairead have moved on to solo careers. Muirgen O’Mahony has joined and will I believe form a formidable partnership with Megan and the returning Chloe. Can’t wait for their new album.

I love Éabha’s voice. Hers is not just another soprano’s like so many of their singers but her Contralto is just the right touch of nasal tone with that Ronstadt wide range of ‘female up to soprano’.

The new blonde singer is Emma Warren, who replaced Susan McFadden. Susan has a lovely voice, but I like Emma slightly better. With Emma here, you get a soprano (Mairéad), a mezzo (Emma), and an alto / contralto (Éabha), which gives a lovely rounded out harmony. You can hear how Emma is more comfortable with her chest voice than most sopranos in the Celtic Woman lineup are (like Chloe and Susan for example). but not as deep as Éabha, while Éabha’s high notes are a bit earthier, Emma’s fully use her head voice. So that makes Emma a solid mezzo, like Orla and Lisa Lambe. Really adds beautiful balance to the song here.
Éabha is ethereal. All of them are incredible, but that alto is out of this world.
