I’m always pleased to see you actually PREPARING your fire before you even try to start it. Too many people seem to forget that the success or failure of a fire is determined before it’s ever lit. It’s good to see someone like you who doesn’t take shortcuts and demonstrates the process of building up from tinder to kindling to fuel.
You live well Dave. Simple excursions and simple kits make life enjoyable.
Nice to hear from you, my friend! Very well said! I appreciate the nice comment and I hope everything is going well for you! -Dave
Nicely built fire, I liked how you did that.
I bought my wife this year for the holidays the Stanley pot. I liked the addition of the Condor bag for it. Once she gets the present I am going to suggest she watch you video and see it in action !
Thank you for watching, Karl! Your wife is going to love the Stanley Pot and the Condor H2O pouch is an excellent edition that fits perfectly! I appreciate the kind words, my friend! -Dave
Clever application of a stuff sack! Not only for its function in the kit, but it's uses beyond that as a possibles bag, extra water carrier (if waterproof) and anything you might need a mid sized container for. Yet takes up zero room effectively. Looks like you enjoyed a great day!
Thank you for watching, Sean! I couldn't agree more about the versatility of the stuff sack! I appreciate you stopping by, my friend! -Dave
Always enjoy watching your axe and knife work Dave, thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Bill! I always enjoy your kind words and support my friend! I am lucky to have you here! -Dave
I'm glad that you showed that the Stanley "cup" (pot) lid fits perfectly with your add on cup. I discovered that last year and it fits so well it's like they were made by the same company. Go figure. Ya gotta love Stanley....great price & great quality = great over all value!! Stay well my friend. Always a joy to see you online!
You are exactly right, Charles...it does seem like the lid was made for that Walmart $4 cup! It works out really well! Thank you for taking the time to watch, my friend! -Dave
Lol, I never get tired of your fantastic editing job! Awesome tools, awesome video! Just sayin'...
Thank you for the kind words! I never get tired of having your here and reading your awesome comments, my friend! Great to hear from you! -Dave
So cool to see you use your axe out there. :)
Thank you, Federico! So cool to have you here, my friend! Thank you for watching! -Dave
Nice to see some of the same tools I use, in this video. Good to see how easily you were able to start your fire in the wind. Thanks for the practical way of demonstrating how you practice your craft.
They are excellent tools, my friend! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and leave your nice comment! -Dave
Nice kit David. Thanks for sharing your great video's with us.
Thank you for watching, Yves! Very nice to hear from you! -Dave
Ahhhhh! You broke out the Lagom Bush Knife. I would love to have that knife my friend. What a great tool. Thanks for the great reviews.
Thank you for watching, mister smith! Yes, it was the Lagom's turn in the rotation and it's always fun to use! I appreciate that awesome comment, my friend! -Dave
Wow...I agree with the previous commenter, as it is nice to see Autumn/Fall, and cooler temperatures, as I am in SE Florida.
Keeping my fingers crossed as it looks like we may some 50s at night soon.
I love your videos, as what could be more relaxing and peaceful, than a cool Autumn/Fall day in the woods, with some warm soup to eat for lunch!
Now I have to make plans to head out to one of my wilderness spots, after watching your video.
I have plenty of new gear that I need to start testing.
Thanks as always!
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment, my friend! I hope you enjoy your time in the woods and let me know how the gear testing goes! -Dave
Hey Dave! Nice efficient kit! Take care, Irène.

Great stuff Brother! I love the new editing style. It makes you look almost Ninja like when wielding an axe. Thanks for working hard to keep things fresh and entertaining. I also have the same Stanley adventure pot. It worked great for my trip this weekend.

I had not heard of the Lagom, Thanks for info on it!!
I am a big fan of the Stanley. My kit is basically designed around your reviews!! The paper towel add is a good tip!!! Thanks Dave!! I have used some really resinous woods that left an oily "film" on the Stanley that got all over the insides of my cup. I will have to try the power towel tip!! Thank You Dave!!
Great video David! So glad I'm back on RUclips! Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas, Dawn! Great to have you back! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and leave your kind words, my friend! -Dave

Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, James! I am happy to hear that you enjoyed the sights and sounds of the fall in the northeast! -Dave
In Texas also and I too miss fall. We just get green to brown leaves, not much color to enjoy. Also unless you really like to sweat you don't camp in August or September.
Great cook kit. I have and use all of those items.
Thank you for watching and leaving your kind words, my friend! -Dave

Thank you for taking the time to watch, steve! I appreciate the kind words, my friend! -Dave
Nice demo Dave, I quickly Googled the Lagom Bush knife only to find it in the $222 Cdn range. Now I agree LT makes a pretty good knife but I'm betting most Mora's perform as well for $200 less. Don't get me wrong I love that you and many others have one but seriously. Great job moving all those leaves away, I'm surprised you haven't had some damper weather or even a skiff of snow. I guess it will come and the longer it holds off the better. Thanks Dave you know I love your vids.
Thank you for watching A J! Yes, the knife is a bit pricey and other knives will do similar work but it is fun to use! We have had some very nice, unseasonable weather as of late and yeas, the longer it holds off the better! I appreciate you stopping by! -Dave
nice kit
Thank you phyllis! I appreciate the kind words and your support, very much, my friend! -Dave
Nice video amigo
Thank you for watching, Carlos! I appreciate your kind words and support, my friend! -Dave
Mine is almost like yours with a few changes. Using the Condor H20 pouch. Starting at the bottom of the of the pouch there is a Oilcamp Space Saver Cup. Then the Stanley Adventure Cook Camp System which fits ( sits ) inside the cup. Along the outside of the Stanley is a long handled Titanium spoon. Inside the Stanley is the Gen2 Folding Firebox Nano Ultralight Backpacking 3" Stove. On top of the Stanley is a Trangia Alcohol burner so I can cook with either alcohol or wood. The outside pocket of the Condor has a plastic ( Flask shaped ) bottle which has the Denatured Alcohol for the Trangia. Next to it is a fero rod for lighting the burner or starting a fire. Folded next to the fero rod is a bandana which can be used if the handles of either pot gets to hot for a bare hand to touch. All of it together makes one small complete cooking outfit.
Nice kit, my friend! Thank you for watching! -Dave
I really like my Stanley cook pot, came across mine by accident in 2009, I disliked the two heavy cups it came with. I use a Toaks Ti cup with mine and the lid also fits that. This whole time, I never knew the handle detached. Like many, I went to the PF SS Water Bottle cook kit Gen 3 and have done a ton of mods to it and the gen 3 bottle carrier. Good video, thanks.
Funny you should say that, as I have never really used the included plastic cups. You current setup sounds great! Thank you for watching, Grant! -Dave
great kit, I use same and also have key ring mod on lid, you did not go over that
Thank you for watching, Tom! It's an excellent modification and I didn't talk too much about it, as I have talked a lot about it in other videos. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by! -Dave
great video, love the channel, some excellent kit you have there, I use the stanley adventure cookset myself with a tatonka ss mug, also a great fit, your videos are very informative and have given me some great ideas to fine tune my own kit, thanks for sharing and taking the time and I subbed ya as well lol ATB Kaizer
Sounds like you have a nice setup there! Thank you for taking the time to watch, to sub and leave your very nice comment! It's great to have you here, my friend! -Dave
I'm still around, Dave. I see your videos in my feed and just have to watch'em. Always a pleasure to see your smiling face. Nice little set up in this one. Quick question, is that Ozark Trail Hobo Tool the same one from your Simple 5 C's Canteen video?
Great to hear from you, Tim! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and I thank you for all of your continued support, my friend! It's a pleasure to have you here. Yes, it's the same tool. I have about 3 of them in different places. For under $5 at walmart, you cannot go wrong! -Dave
the only question I have is was that Mr noodle, or some other ramen alternative
Haha! I really don't remember but probably a ramen alternative. I just grab whatever is in the drawer on the way out, my friend! Nice to hear from you and thank you for watching! -Dave
Try Chux wipes insted of paper towel then you can wash up with them as well ( multi use ) , There cheep an reusable .
Nice! Thank you for watching! -Dave
Just ordered the Lagom Bush knife can't wait until it's showets op and I hope the handel isen't to big for My hands :)
You are going to love the knife, Dennis! I have small to medium sized hands and the handle is just fine. It has a healthy swell, but fits the hand very nicely! Let me know what you think of the knife when you receive it, my friend! -Dave
Thank you very much for your answer:) looking forward to it arrives. Greetings from Denmark
Dennis Domino You're welcome and keep me posted, my friend! -Dave
Where did you get that stuff sack? I get my set up stuck on the lining pulling it out :D
Ive seen you use allot of Council Tool tools. Which axe is your favorite? And also, which one is the most versatile bushcraft wise? Thanks for the video friend. Mike
Thank you for watching, Mike! Great question! My favorite is the Council Tool Woodcraft Pack Axe. Definitely the most versatile bushcraft wise. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and I hope this helps! -Dave
@@HighCarbonSteelLove Thanks for the advice. Youre opinion is always helpful to me!
Say Heah, This weekend was a Test Gear Weekend, I made a couple Piggyback Sheath's, I changed my Rodent 7 and my Rodent 4 and changed it to Rodent 7 and my Rodent 3, I Piggybacked my Rodent 9 with my Rodent 4, So I took my Ratmandu with my Rodent Rucki out this weekend, I couldn't Piggyback them since both Sheath's were made by different makers, But I did Molle Attach my Rucki to my Backpack, I also brought my 24" Council Wood Craft Pack Axe with the Heavy Duty Sheath and Sling just to see how I manage using this set. I also brought my weapon Single Shot Comanche. 410/.45 Colt Pistol, and on the survival belt I had my Canteen and a Necessities Pouch. I'm also using a Maxpedition Kodiak Sling, The cook set is my B. S. A. Stainless set, I have a older one in aluminum, their the basic, no frills or whistles, They just work, Ok. Sort of giving my age, I'm Plenty-One, heh heh heh. Sounds like a lot of gear, Oh, Plus some warm clothes (extra's) just incase. It is a little, But I prepare myself by exercising with the gear before I use it on my solo scouting, So far I'm very pleased with this set up, I could handle it without a problem. Oh, I could also go with my Wicked Tough Saw or my Silky Bigboy2000 with sheath. Kewl Beanz, Job well done as usual. Thanx You.
Sounds like a nice weekend! -Dave
HighCarbonSteel Love Copy That. ,, .
Two questions Dave.....1. where did you find that water bottle? 2. Where do you find the best deal on ferro rods? Thanks!👊🏼
1. I believe Stanley has discontinued the 32 ounce Adventure Multi Purpose bottle. I am unable to find it online but every once in a while, I still see it at Walmart. I purchased mine there years ago for about $7. 2. I purchase all of my ferro rods from Nathan4071's eBay store. Excellent ferro rods of all different sizes and very, very affordable. If you swing by there, let him know I sent you! www.ebay.com/usr/nathan4071. Thank you for taking the time to stop by and leave your awesome questions, Timothy! -Dave
HighCarbonSteel Love Thanks for the help Dave! Merry Christmas!
HighCarbonSteel Love I found a Stanley 24 oz satinless water bottle that nests great yesterday!
Great video, just wondering what model Stanley water bottle that is you're using? I'm try to build a kit just like this, thanks.
Thank you for the kind words! This is the Stanely Multi Use 32 ounce water bottle - www.amazon.com/dp/B005189NAO/?tag=ataofhoco-20. Interesting enough, I think Stanley may have discontinued it because I am having a harder time finding it. Too bad, as it's an excellent water bottle! There are a few places online and on eBay that I have seen it listed. I will also see them at my local Walmart once in a while (which is probably your best bet). Let me know how the kit turns out, my friend! I appreciate you stopping by! -Dave
Hi dave, do you prefer the council tool hatchet or the husqvarna
Hello, my friend! The Husqvarna is an excellent hatchet but I prefer the Council Tool. I like the small Dayton head, the steel that Council Tool uses, the thinner handle and the fact that Council Tool axes are made in the USA. Also, it's a great company run by some very nice people! Great question! Thank you for watching! -Dave
Thanks for the great reply, and the amazing channel! I have the husqvarna and I want to get a council tool axe, however I am on a budget which one is your favorite, in a packable size?
Rhys Tucker I appreciate the kind words! Being on a budget and looking for a packable Council Tool axe, I would highly recommend this one here - www.amazon.com/Council-Hudson-Bay-Protective-Sheath/dp/B00QMK04K8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479877863&sr=8-1&keywords=council+tool+hudson+bay+axe. I actually do a detailed review on this awesome axe here - ruclips.net/video/3Hj2dfqWnno/видео.html. One of my absolute favorites! Let me know what you think! -Dave
