I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I've been having health problems over the last month, thankfully I'm feeling better now.
Anyway, seems like the G22 is getting some positive coverage for it's repairability. Hope we see this translate to more premium phones.

Plus the cost of what Apple wants for their products is a no go for me, and Samsung devices just have way too much bloat for my taste. We need more very solid mid range phones, and tablets from Nokia with 6GB of RAM for around $350 USD at most.

Nokia should have launched the phones with FHD+ resolution. I don't mind the midrange chipset, but a mid/low end 5G Snapdragon chipset would have been more preferable. The newly launched phones might be durable and longlasting as mentioned in the advertisement but the chipset would still be outdated. People mostly think of buying a phone that would last for at least 5 years. Considering the updates, other brands launch a new phone with the latest android version and provide a minimum of 2 major OS updates and 3 years of security updates which are on time. That's why, at least in India, people prefer Samsung phones.

    • @petrisalonen4893

I totally agree. A Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 would have been cheap yet very good in everyday use. A shame it's not coming to budget Nokias.

I had the very same thought about the repair-ability. Why going the extra mile into designing a device that still requires specific tooling to remove the back en to swap the battery while we all know that it can be done much easier...a design that dates from the stone ages in mobile phone land...the "removable back cover" and "user replaceable battery"...mind-blowing isn't it?

I've been using a Nokia 5 for the last 5 years. It's been fantastic but 16GB of storage is now proving too little for my growing list of apps. I've been looking at the current Nokia models but unfortunately there isn't one I fancy. Ideally, I would want a G60, but smaller, with Google Pixel 6a camera performance, and around a 250/300 EUR price mark. Having to buy an X30 to get a decent camera is not going to work for me, especially now that Google has dropped the price of the Pixel 6a to 350 EUR. I really want to buy a new Nokia as I love their ethos but right now I can't see how.

I wish you also talked about the Nokia C12. So far it's very worthy enough for a $80 phone in a very entry level segment.
Very basic android phone and it looks good. The phone has a removable back cover like a phone from 2015. The performance is very the same with the C22 only in some areas like battery(3000mah vs 5000mah) and cameras are not the same. Also no finger print scanner.
Here in the Philippines, it is sold around pesos 3990 - 4290. It is a 3GB ram/64 GB storage model.

Camera is not very good at all though but tbh at this price point you can't really expect much else.

I'm here because of Nokia's phone past, not their current, or as it is looking their future. After a strong re-start (Nokia 8) it's been downhill for me with HMD and my current 8.3 has been disappointing. It will go soon and won't be replaced by a Nokia. A line of all Nokia phones going back to those I can't remember before my N80! The current phones and company really have nothing for me to hang around and use. You're the only way I get any news on Nokia now and it must be difficult to be enthusiastic about much from HMD these days. Good luck! And best wishes for your continued good health 👍

I will stay neutral and not criticize HMD. They are trying to survive and the low end is their meal ticket. My 8.3 will not charge anymore, this seems to be a common issue with the 8.3. I read on a form it could be a loose connector cable. I will take it to a local repair shop as my warranty has expired. I am in the United States and Nokia has given me no replacement options. The X30 5 G is not for sale in this market unless I import it without a warranty. I hope you are feeling better... thanks for the updates.

Nokia gotta bring N-gage back. Unironically i really liked my gage QD, back in the day. I dunno if they could partner up with Nvidea, or someone to make a game centric phone. It’s a niche, but something to fight against the ROG would be cool. Either go mid spec and have the retro emulation crowd happy with nice slide out PSP go controller, or just go all out on the specs with fans and stuff, like the rog.

First two years was the worst losing GPS and waiting forever to update to Android 11 and when it came video recording stopped working (later camera update fixed bug). Ironically now in 2023 my Nokia 6.2 works fine! 👍. I have kept it as a secondary device it still takes good natural looking photos outside and 6.2 Full hd+ LCD PureView screen is one of the best LCD screens ever, a very good quality eye friendly to look at for longer periods.

They were going good at starting point with Nokia 3, 5, 7 plus, 6, 8,9. Thought they brought back lumia like design with hmd signature design, but when they followed the trend of v shaped notch device they went down, and again there was hope when they released xr20, x30, g60, but then again they just designed the phone with with basic design, looking at this they are really struggling, i think they don't know how to compete in market and what phones to make, may be lack of market research or they are just going for premium looking phone with basic display design thinking people will buy their phone for the name of Nokia only.

I think the new logo is fit for its intended purpose. And I think the use of the old logo for consumer products is the right move. Anyway like it or not HMD are razor focused on phones they know they can sell as they don’t cost much to begin with. I think we will see an update to the XR20 soon, but I don’t think we will see much in the way of midrange phones going by the X30 sales numbers. Here in the UK it’s received a few price cuts now, and to be honest it isn’t that great of a phone compared to the sea of competition. I think all we will see is minor updates to a simplified range of phones that are inexpensive. HMD are making big strides with sustainability, so maybe we will have to wait longer to see if this approach bares fruit. But in answer to everyone’s question will there be a flagship……… short answer is no. At this point it’s just a legacy name on forgettable hardware. It’s a real shame.

    • @AbdullaZaki
      @AbdullaZaki  Год назад +1

I can understand their struggles. The phone market is ultra competitive, and its really hard to differentiate when the hardware is so similar across the board. Add to that economies of scale.... and you need to do something very different to just survive.

I own a G50, but it's too heavy and big for an everyday phone. I could consider X30, but the removal of SD card slot and audio jack is a big turn off.
Hoping they release more for the midrange market. I know they accepted defeat from the flagship segment, but they better not give up on midrange.

Thanks for this report Abdulla. I have to give HMD credit for consistency, as I continue to be underwhelmed by their devices. It's difficult to get excited about Nokia phones anymore. I wish these phones didn't have the "Nokia" logo on the back.
As far as the new logo is concerned, I don't think it's "bad", but they should have stuck with the squircle for the "O". I think the name Nokia would be more easily recognisable with the squircle. I think that has always been the iconic element of their logo.
    Cheers.

Is HMD going to use the old Nokia logo but Nokia (the company here in Finland) is the one switching to the new logo? I like Nokia (both of them in the past and present) and my first cellphone was a Nokia back in 1999. However, my X20 hit the bathroom floor the other day and cracked and chipped the glass. I have a Motorola E22 to takeover until I get that one fixed or replaced.

@@AbdullaZaki It was great honestly. Very smooth, never had a hiccup, updated quickly, a pleasure to use. I have thought about the X30 but also that G22. It really looks nice. All phones screen will crack if you get hit at the right place and right amount of pressure point. So, no big thing. Glad I didn't pay a thousand (or more)for it and that happen . 😁

No notch, innovative design like nokia n9, n8, lumia series, also if they can work on their 7+, 8, 6, 9 pureview, 8.3 5g, xr 20, and get inspired from those design to build new design would be great. Yes, they are getting on track with these new modular design and adding virtual ram to their devices.

I think HMD needs money. Some models like Nokia 9, hurt HMD financially and HMD didn't do a good marketing. Lots of people made fun of Nokia 9. HMD produced good flagships but HMD's marketing has too bad, so HMD couldn't reach big sales and HMD lost a lot of money. In my opinion, HMD learnt something about marketing and they are trying to do different phones with spending little money like G22. I think G22's worst point is hardware. Also G22 needs a bit different design. This camera island is too boring. Yes, Pure Android doesn't need high level hardware for long life but T606 is too bad for this phone. I can't understand why they did this fail. My Nokia 5 is still working so good without any intervention.
I think HMD lots of old models were very cool and premium. I also quite like HMD's "Premium smartphone experiences should not be limited to flagship devices only" policy and they are successful about this. They can do very good things with +Marketing+Premium Designs+Pure Android+Mid or High level hardware. I hope they can understand us.

Thanks for NOKIA's news! But the presented models are ultra- and low-budget. Of course, such devices also have the right to exist (especially in our country, during the war), but where are the X-series and the protected XR model?! I doubt that most of the brand's fans will downgrade and switch to lower-end smartphones.

Now that the wifi issues with Android 13 have been reportedly solved on the XR20 I went ahead and picked it up. Almost 2 weeks in and it's beginning to grow on me. They approached the design in a slightly different way and the build as well. They have something going for themselves, a differentiator. It's nice to hold albeit too big. I've decided no class protection this time, not done this since Lumia 1520. I'm most interested in seeing a smaller XR30, no assistant button. Keep the red programmable button, 90hrz led display with more nits. Mid range Snapdragon is fine.
The self repairability of the new phone I am all in on, Fairfone does it too and I would like to see this from more brands.
The new logo is meh, yes, more inline wich a modern tech company but it's a shame they want to distance themselves so badly from their phone legacy.

everyone knows that the last Nokia models may be used mostly for parents to give their little children, or as second phone at work. Day by day Nokia Mobile are losing its value and it is getting an ordinary cheap brand in peoples mind. This strategy may cause HMD to survive in sector but untill when? I see some Nokia concept designs on internet. Mostly the designs are better and better than current Nokia phones. is it so difficult to design models looking like Lumia phones?

The new logo looks like a bunch of sticks to me. It's like the KIA car logo. I just hate it. And, who sit in the R&D team at Nokia? They don't seem to grasp what we really need. A pop off back to replace the battery is such a selling point. I hope they continue with the Zeiss lens.

To be honest we Indians has nothing much left to expect from Nokia sadly other than unnecessarily overpriced phones. For an example they priced 5 month old globally launched Nokia X30 as high as S21FE ,one plus 10 pro,OP11R, Pixel 6/7 series, Motorola edge 30 pro,Realmi GT 2pro,Xiomi 12 pro etc which are proper flagships. So in Indian market they are now a joke!No one cares about their launches or phones except very few Nokia lovers but sadly we can't recommend Nokia to anyone 🙂

I think it might also have to do with the made in india policy which means that their premium devices will have higher taxes on them than their budget friendly devices made there. I could be wrong.
