Yeah get that bike A.S.A.P. we will have that bad boy running on the 1st day! Anything wrong with it can be fixed, but don't listen to the seller. They kill me with "all it needs is a clean carb. and a battery" crap. I always wonder...then why didn't you replace those things? They rarely are right, a lot of time it's something more simple.

      For what it's worth here goes my 2 cents!
      Be aware that this, well done, test. Show you which CDI will provide better better advance and consecutively lower end power...
      Although it is not showing which CDI is providing the best top speed. Without the advantage of testing. I have a hunch that the best top speed is probably from the orange CDI, if all else is equal. Depending on your needs and usage the preference might change a lot!
      Worth mention that on a first stage keeping an eye on your spark plug condition is totally justifiable. Much higher spark advance will induce higher temperatures, etc. specially if running a relatively lean mixture! So pay attention to those details so you don't end up with a seized engine! ;-)
      Cheers

      I have the same, but in 125cc, very little is different, really (since I have also the 50cc version anyway...)... Very dependable since 10years in a row. A fire broke out 2 months ago, cause some main cables were worn down (!!!), but the engine hasn´t had any problems yet. Now, I replaced the 2-3 easily accesible cables that were molten, and the plastic fairing piece, that was also molten, and everything is like new... Just one big complaint: 1year in, I tried to take off the 2 main variomatic nuts (on the front and rear variomatic-axles), and it was impossible, cause the nuts were fused with the axles, by corrosion... I filed down the nuts off the axles while the engine was turning the axles, and somehow, I took the nuts off, but was really very-very difficult, I was even lucky that it worked out at all !!! If i´d have failed, and had destroyed the crankshaft´s threaded end, I´d need to replace the crankshaft, in other words, the bike would have been useless...

    Pretty sure the cdi would advance timing as the engine increases revs. Blue one may have more advanced timing thus the better torque. A better way to increase power and adjust timing is to move the magneto pick up sensor which sends the signal to fire the plug

    I have a 2020 hawk 250, and I just bought one of those blue aluminum CDI Boxes with the wire pigtail. I noticed it kinda ran out of power at the top end with the main jet richer (I could get a couple more mph with the stock one held at WOT on the same roads on the same night, I swapped back and forth a couple times to confirm) and about the same with the main jet leaner. The blue box idled better than the stock box which idled the same after idle mix was adjusted for more air to make it leaner.
    Thought it was kinda weird so ended up hooking a timing light to it and checked how the spark plug was firing at idle and revved up. The stock one held right at the "F" mark on the flywheel which was about 15-20 deg advance from TDC, and when revved up increased the advance to about 50 degrees above the idle advance, reaching that max advance at maybe 6k. The blue box was just constantly at 55 degrees advanced from the F mark, so about 70-75 degrees total advance at all times.
    In short, the stock CDI on a hawk is at about 15-20 degrees of advance at idle and ramps up to about 65-70 as you rev up to somewhere around 6k. The blue aluminum CDI is constantly at 70-75 degrees regardless of where you are in the rev range. I wasn't super scientific about it and I was using a harbor freight timing light (my advance degrees are based on the knob on the back) so don't take these as exact numbers. Also my blue CDI had a green LED if that matters for anything.

    • @TheViolatorinator
      @TheViolatorinator Год назад

      I also have an exhaust, nibbi pe28 carb w/pod filter, nibbi yellow coil with MSD boot, and the NGK iridium plug at stock gap as far as performance mods with sprockets 16 front/40 rear. I'm light so I can get some more top speed out of the ratio slightly taller than the typical 17/45 everyone with these bikes runs. I can cruise 65-70 mph with an oil cooler, top out about 75 on flat ground.

    • @kachiskid
      @kachiskid  Год назад

      Great write up. I think if you got 20 different ones, they would do 20 different things. I'm not even sure how they are rated against the cc's of the bike. I hear many people complain that it does very little for a 50cc bike, kinda hit or miss. You engine is a 229cc and possibly the CDI isn't regulated for above a 150cc. Bro, if you filmed this process and posted it, it would appreciated by many. Have you thought of it?

    • @TheViolatorinator
      @TheViolatorinator Год назад +1

      Thanks, I saw that 49cc scooter guy you mentioned in another comment actually did the timing light test better than I did though.
      I found out the timing light I used reads for a car engine that fires only overy other time it hits TDC. The hawk even though it's 4 stroke fires the spark like a 2 stroke and I assume other CDI bikes do too, so my readings for timing advance are doubled. Just divide all the numbers except the rpm by two for more accurate info.

      Going back to what you said I don't really have an indication that there's a rev limiter on my stock CDI but maybe some other bikes do. I've throttled it up to over 9k by not paying attention when I had a sprocket setup closer to the stock 15/50 with just a 46 on the rear and 1st/2nd gear would rev out super fast. I wonder if people who see big benefits with the racing CDI have a worn out or defective stock one that doesn't give enough advance or misfires. In that case at least it's a cheap replacement.

I have one that goes in directly under the tank but it is not allowing the fuel to flow. Is there anything I can use to bypass this petcock? To tell you the truth, you might be wasting your time. I have heard that they don't make many increases on a 50cc much at all. Of course I don't have one (50cc) so it is just what I have heard. They also say, they aren't all the same, even if the color of the housing is. My suggestion is this, use the heck out of Amazon...buy 4 different ones (red, gold, purple) a little testing and keep the best one.

    Question: I have an upgraded carb, intake and exhaust on a 50cc. I'm having bogging issues as well as Idle issues, and I've adjusted the carb to where it limits both but I still get some bogging when full throttle. Will this CDI(Blue) fix the issues? Brand new carb, brand new exhaust and intake. When it was stock, it was actually faster, but I can tell she wants to go. I'm just wondering if the stock CDI isn't adapting to the upgrades. Thoughts?

      CDI's normally help starting issues. Your problem sounds like a carb. issue allday. I know you said you got an upgraded carb., but did you re-jet after installing the intake and muffler? Is that speed in mph or kmh? And do you know if the blue cdi is suitable with kymco agility 50?

    • @kachiskid
      @kachiskid  5 лет назад

      Speed is in mph. Pull the cdi from the kymco, check the connector. If it only have one connecting port then you bike is DC, and this CDI won't work. If it has 2 connection housings then it AC, which I have.

    • @bleekwater6176
      @bleekwater6176 5 лет назад

      @@kachiskid Thanks for your reply! It has 2 connection housings one 4 pin and one 2 pin so it think its AC like yours. But im going to buy a cdi with remote control and when i push a button on the remote it will go unrestricted about 50-60 km/h (31-37 mph). So if the cops hold me i may be lucky. The only negative part is that its pretty expensive: 110 euros

    • @kachiskid
      @kachiskid  5 лет назад +1

      @@bleekwater6176 yeah we have the same it's a AC system and it most likely will work. Now I have a 171cc engine in mine, so my increases will not be the same as say a 50cc scooter. The only time I can really see me going over the level of restriction on my bike is when I do speed runs. I rarely keep the engine at max power throughout the day of riding. On a 50cc if you're constantly running wide open you risk damaging the engine with an unrestricted CDI.

    • @bleekwater6176
      @bleekwater6176 5 лет назад

      @@kachiskid Really? I asked many people if an unrestricted cdi would cause damage to the engine and they said it wont. Could you explain me why
      it will cause damage to the engine.

    • @kachiskid
      @kachiskid  5 лет назад +1

      @@bleekwater6176 not will, but could. There are many different opinions on all subjects related to scoots. A lot of people think that the engine isn't really producing enough power to do any real damage because it only 49.5cc. The restriction is in place so you don't overload the engine...now that being said it might be as dumb as how they seal the carbs. so we can't adjust them. Check out my last video and you will see engine failure (teardown in 5 minutes) the valve completely failed. That was a Taida cylinder which is a quality Taiwanese engine....not to say the CDI is at fault. There is a reason why the redline is the redline, nice place to visit but you don't want to stay. Just my take, because you asked...I could be wrong but after $300 in just engines I'm more careful.

      Kachi's Kid 50, and I think 86. The head needs serious porting to match the manifold and exhaust. I may look at skimming a bit, but have to check that the chain will still be good.

    • @kachiskid

      Are you going to port the head yourself? I already have tons to do today, but I think I will pull my plug to see if it running rich or lean. I haven't really checked since installing of the new engine. I just know she sounds awesome on deceleration. Wait, what kind of bike do you have, it has a chain? Only chain we have is next to the oil pump, and starter clutch on a scoot.
