I brought a used bike 30 years ago I wanted to ride to my daughters which is 50 mils awayso I put some money in to it. Hadn't rode a bike since I was a kid. So off I went no spear tube no pump. I rode that 50 miles on a levy road . Man what a blast my daughter wanted to drive me home I Said no way I am riding back. I an 80 years old now and still ride 100 miles a week best thing you can do for your health. Hope I am still riding when I am 90.
I commute 30km by bike every day no matter what with my single speed road bike or my fixed gear racer. The worse the weather the better it feels because for me the feeling of pure bliss and freedom increases even more when I am the only one brave enough to ride my bike in such conditions.
I read about a salesman who went to sell in terrible weather conditions. He made more money on these days because other sales people stayed home. You are the salesman😀
You don't need expensive kit either. Just cycle in your work stuff, or day to day clothes. If you get hot slow down, cold speed up. Just invest in waterproofs
My life changed the day i started cycling. My friend gave a used bike and started riding to work,at then i was 104 kg .i rode 30 km every day.now i weigh 73.cycling changed my life... everyone watching this video start today itself...dnt wait for tomorrow.
Had same moment recently. Getting on car to work was taking tid more than an hour. Got fed up, used my full suspension bike for commuting. Took me 35-40 minutes to get to work, and I live outside of town. Got myself a gravel bike, now it takes 25 minutes. Sold one car. Come on PPL give it a try, you might find it is a much nicer option than you can imagine.
Could not agree more. If only our local governments would pay more attention and create better, safer biking infrastructure. We would all benefit tremendously.
I never learned how to bike when I was a kid. Just over 3 months ago, I got on a bike, and with the encouragement and support of my friends, finally learned how to ride it. It’s really life changing. I was really wobbly and scared during the first few weeks, but with a bit of practice and courage, I slowly gained confidence. I’ve been commuting to and from work everyday for over two months, saved a lot of money from mass transpo, and somewhat made my life much better. I will be turning 32 next month and learning how to bike is perhaps one of the best things that’s ever happened to me in my 31 years of existence.
Awesome. Stay safe. Depending on speed and conditions there are different ways, but a driver who is honking at you is a driver who is aware of you, and that's a good thing.
I have minimised my motorcycle commuting now bike commuting more, my fitness is not that great but I'm happy and enjoy my bike. I appreciate what's around me more now, my health, our environment.
Be aware you will become a warrior. The level of fitness I am in by simply doing an everyday thing is beyond that of normal humans. Being athletically confident or on the quest to be more so
I don’t commute everyday to work on bike but I do use my bike two times a week to commute to my job because on those todays I have to go at night and buses take forever therefore my bike save me money and time to get there and back home plus riding at night is such a relaxing experience, the air is not too hot or cold plus there are a lot of bikers going back home too
nice video.. I too commute by bicycle, been doing it for the past 12 years; currently in Bangalore, India - 10 miles each way in the worst traffic possible ;-) but still absolutely worth it.. and I save time as well.
I was a daily commuter in my twenties and thirties, then I let the demands of daily life make my riding an on again/off again thing. The last five years, it's been much more off than on. But I'm getting back to it and loving it. I'm 56 now, and hate to think of the time I've lost, but concentrating on the future is the way to go.
Love this! I’m commuting daily by bike in NYC and agree with all! Get out there no matter how daunting it may seem... it is not impossible. Plus look at the people in this video; they all look phenomenal!
I'm retired. Buy I really liked this video. I live in Tennessee and " WINTER is COMING ". We go to Tucson,Az in January and stay till March. They have 131 miles of bike trails , called " THE LOOP". And you don't have to worry about cars.
Commute by bike 2-3 days a week, 22 miles round trip, takes me an hour each way. I’m not in perfect shape. I’m 45. I also recommend a pedal assist e-bike for days you need assistance. It’s life changing. I am saving money on gas. I’m getting into better cardio shape. It’s good for the environment. As a side note, i don’t dress into cycling gear like these people. I commute in regular clothes. May even try to wear some high heel pumps one of these days. Just try it!!
Hi Guys.I am in Stockholm Sweden and I commute everyday 30km to and from work all year round even in the cold winter.I use a Canyon commuter which is brilliant but I also have a racing bike for the summer.Great video. The blond lady said in the video that's it's her goal to get more people to commute to work and I can't agree more for her.I would like to connect for you guys in someway via social media or a group on facebook to share experiences. Thanks again.
@@FalcoBikes There are ways around it, I cycle 16km each way. Going to work I take it easy and on the way back I really make it my workout. Also I find it depends on the clothes you wear. Merino wool can be an expensive option but it magically wicks away sweat and never smells bad. 🙂
Most peoples don’t realize how magnificent is to be on bike. Give a try and start slowly but it’s an amazing feeling in the end. Thanks for the great video, btw what’s the soundtrack name ?
Agreed with everything said here. I would cycle alot more though if I could leave my bike without it Been stolen....I love the way these riders can bring their bikes into their place of work.
I live outside of town. My nearest grocery is 10 miles. I have been wanting to go carless but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to manage it. My car needed work last week so I dropped it off at the garage and rode my bike the 16 miles home. A couple of days later I rode my bike back to the garage to pick up my car. It was easy. I didn't have to inconvenience anyone else to get my business taken care of. I can't realistically have no car--the shopping limitations alone would be a nightmare. But I can always get to where I need to be.
Sarandib22 That is something I have considered, and when it is no longer feasible to keep my old car running I may try an electric assist bike. The 16 mile route to the auto mechanic is also the safest route to a grocery store. The shorter 10 mile route that I take in my car to the grocery is a major highway with traffic moving at 65 mph. I will need the power to hold up for both distance and my very hilly area carrying my cargo.
Another POS car would be a false economy. I've had enough to know. A well-built, (virtually) maintenance-free e-bike would be a far better investment, both financially and health-wise. Connie, I'd advise researching bikes with belt drives that use either sealed hub gears (Rohloff/Shimano) or gearboxes (Pinion). Airless tyres (e.g. Tannus) will remove the fear of flats/punctures. And if you really want to treat yourself, buy a bike with a titanium frame (no rust, lasts a lifetime). All the best, from the UK.
I usually take the car 1 or 2 days per week and would look forward to it -- at least I can drive today. But now I look forward to the days when I bike to work so much more. It's amazing.
I started my commuting (home office) journey about a month ago after years taking a public bus. I have a renewed view of life and so enjoy and will continue my cycling commuting experience.
As a teenager of the late eighties I got on the mtb train pretty early while most of my friends wanted and got scooters and mopeds. I never wanted one as I loved the freedom that I wasn't stuck to just the roads like they were. All these years on I still commute by bicycle while they now sit in traffic in their SUV's. I still enjoy it... They hate it.
Zane in high school all my friends had cars but I didn’t because I lived in a apartment and parking was a issue so I got a bmx to get around the city. So by the time we started college their cars had blown transmissions, rusted frames and one crashed hers so at that point I was the only one who still had a mode of transportation plus I have the freedom to go through thin alleys, jump over stuff in the road and sidewalk and the damn bike compact enough to take on the train or bus it’s definitely the way to go for a broke student
Great video. I've been on two wheels since I was four and now almost 30, still riding for transportation and recreation. It's something that'll never bore me. Nothing else makes me feel like a modern explorer as I strap my helmet, pack my backpack, and ride my metal horse to notice the unnoticed. The world is too beautiful to feel separated from. Every rain or shine, up or down, and hot or cold is a testament to me living life as the world intended. Riding makes me happy.
I currently have a mountain bike that I've had for many years now. It's crappy. But I recently got a job so I can now save up for a road bike. I'm pretty excited at the possibilities. I'm 17, by the way.
DO IT! I'm also 17 and just got my first road bike having had mountain bikes all my life until a few years ago when my bike was stolen. It's an amazing change to your life- I have the freedom to go anywhere and see anyone, I've made new friends and strengthened relationships with existing friends/acquaintances, and I have got something productive and healthy to be interested in and pour my money into! I have an Eddy Mercx Blockhaus67 with Shimano 105 btw. Have you bought yours yet?
I know you are saying road bike in the more general sense, but you really need to do some research. Only if you have really pristine tarmac between you and everywhere you need to be should you lock yourself into a bike with forks so narrow you can't put a general purpose tire on it. The research is showing that wider, chunkier, more comfortable tires slow you down very little, if at all. And you'll be able to ride across that gravel lot instead of walking your bike. Happy cycling!
I agree that tyres should be 25mm or 28mm but I disagree with you saying that you should only have a traditional road bike (as in an aero, endurance or lightweight bike to be more specific) if there is only pristine tarmac. I live in England where there are tons of potholes and gravely sections of road around where I ride and my bike copes fine. Gravel bikes are great but if you are riding primarily on road then I'd say a traditional 'road bike' is absolutely fine.
+Connie Back he probably meant that bike with basket in front.. road bike can go to graveled road just fine.. but you can't trust that slim tire on potholes.. i travel around with a mountain bike.. i use it on road and off road that is why i choose mtb.. the difference with rd and mtb regarding the speed is mtb travels a bit slower than rb or road bike.. anyways, enjoy cycling guys.. keep safe
While I'm glad to see such an encouraging video, one concern I have is that this reinforces the narrative that bike commuters are (or should be) hobby bikers, who own several bikes each, go mountain-biking on the weekend, absolutely love biking in the rain, etc. If we want to encourage more people to bike, it needs to be an activity so comfortable and natural that my elderly grandmother or my young nieces could easily bike to go shopping, bike to group activities, etc. I'm not a 'biker'. I just use my bike to get to work.
Exactly, thank you for making this comment. You don't need to wear cycling clothes just to commute to work and you don't need a road bike. So many comments on this video are people talking about their road bike or their fixie for commuting. It's kind of ridiculous in my opinion, and it's really mostly in North America that people see riding a bike this way. I'm not a hobby biker, skateboarding is my hobby. I just use my bike for transportation. I absolutely agree that it is better than driving but you don't need to become some hardcore "cyclist" to commute to work. No uniform necessary, no road bike necessary, no fixie necessary. Just buy a commuter bike or a hybrid, it's usually the better option for commuting around a city, but you know how people in America have to be. Everyone always has to be about the "lifestyle".
Love this! I have recently started commuting to work. 12 miles each way and quite hilly, in the chiltern hills in Buckinghamshire England. Buying a road bike and hoping to get to work in 45 minutes. Love it!
Amazing video ! So inspiring ! I commute every day to work with my steel fixed-gear bike. Sold my car 2 years ago. Not planning on buying a car again in my life... Much love from Greece !
I’ve been bike commuting a lot and now am starting winter bike commuting it’s 9km one way. I have my winter studded bike tires on. Can’t wait to try it out as Ottawa just got fresh snow today.
Great video. Cycling is fun. Turns the commute from a chore into a joy. Mine is half an hour each way each day. It's basically an hour of holiday every single day of the year.
I am 62 years old, and as someone who was born and raised in Key West, i have never owned a car. , i ride a surly long haul trucker and a lectric 3.0 that i added a second 20 ah battery to.
"Ride more drive less!" Amen!!! I bike Boston...DAILY!!! 54 years old today and knocked-off nine miles!!! Hey, I use the city's bike share program, but what type of city sturdy all-weather road bike would some of you recommend to me? Boston is crowded and congested and has its share of inclines; therefore, I need a bike with easy gear change, good durable (able to tolerate potholes, horrid road bumps, and various steal construction plates) tires, and GREAT lasting breaks. Thanks! P. S. I do not even own a car anymore.😊!!!
hey! glad to hear the enthusiasm. a lot of commuters enjoy riding modern steel road bikes with slightly wider slick tires. just google image search pictures of surly commuter bikes and all city commuter bikes, and you'll find lots of inspiration. keep an eye out on craigslist for a commuter bike owned by someone who knows what they're doing, make sure you buy the right size, and this will be the best quality and value you can get out of a bike purchase.
i feel like steel sports the same durability and most of the desirable properties of ti and this is clearly a commuter bike. you can lock up a surly without much trouble but if you have a moots frame lying around at the grocery store i'm sure a thief would be happy to pull out bolt cutters for those. it's a liability
Thanks for the wonderful feedback!!! I just heard from a few local Boston, MA avid cycling commuters who have steel frame Specialized, 700c (32-36) tires, on their bikes, AND they all agree with me concerning the ONLY brakes I will use: disk breaks!!! Thus, in time, I will purchase a decent hybrid bike with the above features!😊!!! P. S. I work for the bike share company and I commute EVERYWHERE via the rental bikes. However, I hope to own my own bike so I can ride outside of the commuting and errand running times.😊!
What a great video! I commute by bike doing 50km round trip from my home on the Cape Town coast to work in the Cape Winelands. It is awesome! It clears my head, I feel fit and enjoy the outdoors and never get stuck in traffic. Your video captures so much of this. Thank you.
The stuff you run into while biking is one aspect I enjoy a lot. You begin to come out of your little world when you bike and see things you wont see any other way other than jogging...nope not for me. I like to ride along rivers or in a town i've never been in before an experience I would never realize in a car, yuck. I could list many things I've seen but one that sticks out is a cat village along a path that I was blessed enough to ride. lol all those cats looked like show cats well fed, beautiful and laid back and some were sleeping and wouldn't even open their eyes as I passed by.....wild. Mercedes silver arrow here with about 200 miles on the od and loving every mile. oh the lumos e-bike helmet with all the cool lights on it rocks get it.
I'm fifteen and starting my sophomore year of highschool this fall, and I really want to try commuting by bike. I technically don't need to, but I want the independence that most teenagers crave. I already ride MTB often. Now my only issue is finding a good road/gravel bike I can afford and commute on, as well as ride for sport.
Wow I bought myself a Birthday present i Form of a new bike a Cannondale Carbon 5 now a month later i tought this was a Bad decision behause its a Cross Country Carbon bike an way too overpowered for my daly Use driving to crocery and work but After this video and the Woman on that bike with the lefty fork everything is Fine 😊👍
It was the same with me. It is just a matter of decision to give a try. Now I ride the bike during all four seasons to work, grocery store and where I need to go. Even now I am suprise what you can manage using the bike...
Riding is an almost perfect experience - a natural, enjoyable activity that lets you cover remarkable distances with minimal effort, is good for your mind and body and can be done by almost anyone, regardless of age. And it is readily available to anyone who wants to try.
Great video. It’s amazing how many issues that cycling commutes would solve or at least help - traffic, pollution, health systems, finance etc, yet so many countries and cities do nothing to incentivise it. Imagine if employers were given kick backs to encourage or incentivise their staff to walk/cycle to work?
The US actually gave companies a tax credit if they reimbursed employees for cost of non-personal vehicle transit (public transit, walking, cycling, etc...). That tax credit was eliminated with the Tax Scam passed last year.
I love this! I started riding bike everyday for the past 2 weeks and its been awesome! #RideMoreDriveLess I live in Littleton and commute to Highlands Ranch!
i see you also have the workplace changing cupboard where commuting cyclists disappear into, then emerge from ready for work and then ready to cycle home my cycling cupboard is probably not as elegant as yours it is full of shovels and barrows and sand and cement but it does the job. commuting by car or public transport is stressful, commuting by bike is life enrichment and freedom.
One of my favorite things about bicycle commuting? Children will say hi to you! If I am ever in my vehicle and I wave to a child (which I will not do!) they give me a very concerned look. When I'm pedaling it is not uncommon for youngsters to say hello to me first.

+Connie Back he probably meant that bike with basket in front.. road bike can go to graveled road just fine.. but you can't trust that slim tire on potholes.. i travel around with a mountain bike.. i use it on road and off road that is why i choose mtb.. the difference with rd and mtb regarding the speed is mtb travels a bit slower than rb or road bike.. anyways, enjoy cycling guys.. keep safe
look at that guy, he's maybe 40-50 but he has great figure
one of the benefits of cycling 👍
Indeed
This is GREAT. Try this in Baton Rouge, LA. I did. Very stressful.
I'm so Glad I found this! Great stuff!
Moved from London to New York and really missed cycling. I have just bought a commuter 🚲 to ride to work in NYC. Thanks for sharing!
I just started cycling last week, man it is fantastic!! I love it!
Very good video! The idea is one that I support and I am also trying to get more people around me on bicycle.
Love this video... can't wait until its morning and I can ride my bike.
I’ve been bike commuting a lot and now am starting winter bike commuting it’s 9km one way. I have my winter studded bike tires on. Can’t wait to try it out as Ottawa just got fresh snow today.
Sounds great!
Superb video! Very inspirational. Thank you.
Jacob, Denmark 🙏😊👍
Dynamite video. Thanks for sharing.
Beauty in every story.
What a simple but ABSOLUTELY AWESOME video!!!!! Well done!!!!!
This video is Awesome!
Great video.
Almost a year i continues ride that's make me happy.
Amen! I love to get your guys on RUclips channel.
Love my Feedback Sports bike stand. Intelligently designed. Sturdy. Stable. Best stand I've owned.
I live in Lubbock Texas and its a nightmare getting any where on a bike here so I Use a mountain bike ,a road bike you couldn't do it ,
Great video. Cycling is fun. Turns the commute from a chore into a joy. Mine is half an hour each way each day. It's basically an hour of holiday every single day of the year.
I have been making and posting biking videos too :) made my second one recently and getting better at it! Love them
hell yah!!! 23000km and still logging in the milage..loving it!
Great inspiration! Thanks! 🙏🏻
Wow Amazing video very nice
Thanks!
P. S. I do not even own a car anymore.😊!!!
hey! glad to hear the enthusiasm. a lot of commuters enjoy riding modern steel road bikes with slightly wider slick tires. just google image search pictures of surly commuter bikes and all city commuter bikes, and you'll find lots of inspiration. keep an eye out on craigslist for a commuter bike owned by someone who knows what they're doing, make sure you buy the right size, and this will be the best quality and value you can get out of a bike purchase.
if you have the budget and can secure it at all times , go titanium. Last bike you'll ever need.
i feel like steel sports the same durability and most of the desirable properties of ti and this is clearly a commuter bike. you can lock up a surly without much trouble but if you have a moots frame lying around at the grocery store i'm sure a thief would be happy to pull out bolt cutters for those. it's a liability
Am Lawrence from sa I also ride every single day to work... And it is really awesome the is less stressful. ❤️
Today was First day biking to work😁 amazing
The helmet has a really nice design and I like the fit! Perfect for me.
If only we had such beautiful roads in our cities
That's a great video!
It was the same with me. It is just a matter of decision to give a try. Now I ride the bike during all four seasons to work, grocery store and where I need to go. Even now I am suprise what you can manage using the bike...
Awesome video, before I knew it I screamed out "That's Denver!"....my commute is right past the confluence too on the way to my work at DPS.
This is an awesome video!. I cycle with my Ridley for a way to be one with outside. Its awesome.
I rode somewhere around 46 miles on my bike today. Came back exhausted.
Riding is an almost perfect experience - a natural, enjoyable activity that lets you cover remarkable distances with minimal effort, is good for your mind and body and can be done by almost anyone, regardless of age. And it is readily available to anyone who wants to try.
Looks great!
Absolutely right. My country is going under severe petrol debt but don't want to accept bicycle as a solution.
Special bicycle lanes would also be an incentive for cyclists.
The US actually gave companies a tax credit if they reimbursed employees for cost of non-personal vehicle transit (public transit, walking, cycling, etc...). That tax credit was eliminated with the Tax Scam passed last year.
I love this, let’s get out there.
I actually have 3 cars and a road bike but i always be riding on my road bike so motivated by this video doc
@4:02 I love how he has to get changed in a stationary cupboard.
I love this! I started riding bike everyday for the past 2 weeks and its been awesome! #RideMoreDriveLess I live in Littleton and commute to Highlands Ranch!
i see you also have the workplace changing cupboard where commuting cyclists disappear into, then emerge from ready for work and then ready to cycle home
my cycling cupboard is probably not as elegant as yours it is full of shovels and barrows and sand and cement but it does the job.
commuting by car or public transport is stressful, commuting by bike is life enrichment and freedom.
I would like to start riding my bike everywhere.
Yes yes yes yes yes agree..thumbs up people...yesssss
Inspiring
Yay - bikes rock! #RideMoreDriveLess
Well damn, SOLD!
Awesome video!!!
What an inspiration ❤️
One of my favorite things about bicycle commuting? Children will say hi to you! If I am ever in my vehicle and I wave to a child (which I will not do!) they give me a very concerned look. When I'm pedaling it is not uncommon for youngsters to say hello to me first.
Love it
