I guess now, though, you need to start the whole thing over on a new design that includes cupholders ;)
You guys should install pressure sensors on the grippers and have a sort of "fragile" mode to pick things up so you can close the grippers full speed but it would cut power as soon as the pressure sensor read X lbs of force. It would be amazing to see this thing able to catch a football or something without popping it!
@@jkRatbird I was thinking egg, but that would be a whole process haha. Think about how we catch an egg thrown at us.. the egg hits your hand, then you move your hand backwards dissipating it's momentum so the egg doesn't break. If they could do that on the power loader... I don't even know what I'd do, I'd be geeking out so hard 😂
I would love to see them iterate on the design and make the grabbers more dynamic, maybe even as simple as allowing the tips to move in and out from the main portion they could be more sensitive, like real fingertips are.
I think my favorite part about this whole project is still the fact that the lower section is made out of a real CAT brand mini lifter, so the power loader is legitimately partially made and funded by the real CAT company like it was in the movie XD Can’t get much more real than that
I love how this is not just a prop replica or a flimsy prototype, but is a genuine construction mech that seems almost as dexterous as the one in the film, but stronger! Amazing work.
It needs programming to make the claw arms move in tandem when shared handling of a single object so that you can minimize damage to the held object or the arms themselves. Speaking of which that thing is massively durable. I'm still in awe.
"What can we do with it?" A valid question. So far, as amazingly cool as it is, the Power Loader is actually pretty limited in it's usage. Due to the type of grippers it has, it's pretty much just an over-engineered forklift. There is little practical advantage in a mech style forklift, regular forklifts are themselves pretty awesome at doing basic lifting and carrying. So... what if the grippers could be removed and replaced with job-specific attachments? A jackhammer? A massive drill? A welding arm? An giant wreaking maul? Perhaps a large chainsaw attachment? With configurable "hands", the Power Loader can be so much more than a forklift with robot arms. You've designed so many degrees of movement, such precision, and such strength into those arms, it's a shame to see it be limited to "pick up object, crush object, put down ruined object".
No, actually it's very useful in many ways, like removing a wooden log from the road or many other things. In India, it can be used in many activities!
I want you to make a presentation of the Power Loader to Caterpillar engineers. Would be awesome to se and hear their reactions. As an engineer specializing in industrial robots I am very impressed with how strong and usable it seems to be. It's not just a fancy prop.
"It is normal when first piloting a Prawn suit to feel a sense of limitless power. Prawn operators receive weeks of training to counteract this phenomenon. You will have to make do with self-discipline." -P.D.A., Subnautica
when you have a seamoth, you see any kind of leviathan and your first instinct is to run, but with a prawn suit it is much more common to grapple the leviathan to drill it to death
I could honestly see this becoming a commonplace construction machine with some minor modification (longer arms, longer wheel base so it doesn't fall over, protective cover over the cockpit so stuff doesn't just rain down on the driver etc.) because it just seems so strong and versatile.
@Jose Medina Ramirez I was thinking the arms needed to be longer so it could push off the ground to lift the front tracks onto the table. Same was excavators can lift by shoving the bucket into the ground.
As a super expensive oversized toy it is spot on, but as far as real world functionality is concerned it is completely outclassed by already existing equipment. I can't even think of a niche setting where it would excel.
@@dickthedorkwing6082 the arms are quite dexterous for equipment I have seen, perhaps this thing would be useful in Amazon's warehouses for moving pallets? like change pallets A and B in a normal forklift, you pick up pallet B, put it on the floor, pick up pallet A and place it on the place of B, then pick up B from the floor and put it where A was... with the powerloader, you can hold B in the air, and switch them a bit faster, and remember each second counts for Bezos crew...
I didn’t see it do anything a backhoe with a thumb couldn’t do a lot better. Don’t get me wrong, it’s super cool and impressive for lots of reasons, but I can’t imagine what kind of niche it could serve better than existing equipment.
So this would be really good in disaster relief, like in hurricanes moving debris, same with tornadoes, and in heavy snowstorms, clearing snow, not to mention it’s use on construction sites, and military installations, or even in port cities in warehouses or moving stuff on and off of ships, such a revolutionary creation brought to fruition!

Too bad most industries were designed for other tools like forklifts. But I think the Powerloader would be great for clearing debris from places like those after hurricane.
This is the most real thing they have ever done. Like... it's the most real it could be compared to the original fictional piece. This is a huge achievement. Won't be surprised if they make a time travel car in a few more years.
Some load cells on the gripper pads tied to individual meters visible in the cabin would be awesome for fine manipulation and pressure modulation. Great job.
Better still would be cameras and monitors as well, with small mushroom joysticks on the main sticks for fine manipulation, possibly with a set of low-flow bypass valves to give more delicate control. I can see CAT picking this up as a construction tool with accessories able to be gripped or replaced as needed for the job. A whole new customizable equipment line with a built-in customer base of sci-fi nerds as well as industry.

@@IIISuperLinkII ..Basically cells on the gripper that tells the pilot how hard the grippers are gripping, so for example Bogdan could have grabbed the egg without breakin it cause he would have had readouts tellin him how hard he was grabbing
Got a few ideas for upgrades: 1. Gentle operation. This power loader is destructive and powerful. It will be interesting to see it do something that isn't destructive easier. Like that egg challenge, or pick up an egg from the ground and put it on a precise place on a table without breaking it. For the extra challenge: do it without someone looking from the side who directs the operator. Operator judgement alone. 2. It seems like it can be tipped off very easily. Maybe more weight at the bottom could help? 3. All terrain mode. Navigating through tougher types of terrain.
One thing I think you need on this thing is a 'no bend' mode of some kind. In other words, a setting you can switch on that makes it function like it was meant to in the movie, working as a loader, where bending what you're loading would be exceedingly counter productive. So this would probably ensure arm movement, wrist movement and even claw movement don't exceed certain resistance forces potentially damaging whatever you're trying to move. It would be particularly good if it had presents, but also some custom setting so you can dial it way down for your eggs, and dial it way up for combating a queen xenomorph, as you do.
Yeah, a sensor suite, smart align functionality, and active resonance damping would make this thing less liable to wreck whatever it's trying to load/unload.
All machines like this in the real world from forklifts to cranes to giant mining excavators all have the power to to destroy the stuff they're loading to them selves It's all in operator skill Alolt of people just think of machine operators as a job that you do if you fail at school but its a highly skilled area of work This machine already has the fine control to do the fine work they just have to learn how to drive it Anyway the "real" one in the movie obviously had alot of power to battle the alien So they can't be turning this one down I case they gotta fight some sort of monster
As a 360 excavator I would say it needs longer to arms to distance the operator from the target more and to improve functionality, also an excavator style blade to stop damage to the power loader itself and also to assist with picking things up or moving them. I would also suggest a larger counterweight or a counterweight that could move further away and nearer towards at the rear of the vehicle to cope with larger weights being moved or picked up. One other thing would be a stronger undercarriage and wider tracks to allow for these upgrades and for versatility on moister terrain. Finally an engine upgrade to account for the things I’ve suggested. It’s a great job to even complete this thing though so credit where it’s due guys! Ps it needs a cup holder
@@Distortia1994 oh didn't see that but yeah now that they've built a movie one I wanna see like the actual best thing they can build, allthough that would be another couple hundred thousand dollars
@khristian boulton, just adding my advice as someone who understands, operates and owns machinery of this kind, eg; hydraulic mainly. My additions were added as advice and operators insight. It’s up to them what they do with it. Thanks
An upgrade I'd like to see is perhaps some sort of sensor(s) on the clamps, so that the Power Loader doesn't crush absolutely everything it grabs. That way it can hold that egg without cracking it, and the next time you go for a coffee run, you can grab the coffee with the Power Loader. Also the side mirrors, and cup holders mentioned in the video, along with perhaps a way to see what's behind you (so you don't run anyone over backing up), and lights, so you can see when it gets dark. Aside from that, you guys did a great job on this, it looks incredible!
on the inside of the claws, you need to install contacts that will close when the load is above 45 pounds, and send weak electricity to the contacts located on the joysticks, and then you can really feel how tightly the claw is compressed
"It is normal when first piloting a Prawn suit to feel a sense of limitless power. Prawn operators receive weeks of training to counteract this phenomenon. You will have to make do with self-discipline."
Totally different setting but I feel like this is the beginning of industrial Mechs. The precision that can be achieved coupled with different arm attachments could make this a very useful base machine. As others have said, debris clearing from disasters down to moving large and heavy crates at shipping hubs. The possibilities with this thing are amazing.
Anyone praising his creation hasn't seen actual demolition equipment in action. In any case, the machine in the movie is supposed to be a materials handler, not a demolition machine. He doesn't demonstrate qualities of such a machine, and what he created was a yawner compared to equipment that already exists.
It's an awesome build.but there is literally no reason to have an operator exposed inside the machine, which would the change the design. Longer tracks and longer arms would then make this a modern day heavy machine.
They already have smaller exo suit versions that can move the weight of 20 people. It just lacks the maneuverability of the arms of this thing and treads.
With the right modifications, the Power Loader would be perfect for use in carrying material loads in rock quarries/lumber yard/construction areas; removing road obstructions (wrecked cars, fallen interstate bridges, and fallen trees); and lifting and carrying heavy crates and storage containers. Basically, it's the forklift of the future.
I think an armoured door on the lower of the pilots compartment would be good many like a door, but made with steel thick enough and strong enough to stop potential shrapnel flying into your legs and lower body, and maybe protective glass on the top half to protect your torso from potential shrapnel, i dunno just seems like a good idea to me
I was wondering why they didnt use plexi glass for the cockpit aswell. Would have also been better protection on the top. Imagine youre sitting in this thing while it rains and it just pours through the mesh onto your head.
I’ve been watching this channel since the first exoskeleton suit like 5 years ago or so….. I’m really proud of how far you guys have come and I can’t wait to see what the hacksmith industries will be able to accomplish in the next five years
You can upgrade the oil pressure lines. This soft tubing is way easier to puncture. You can also work on a shielding the pilot, because in some situations there are shrapnels everywhere. Speaking from experience :)
To all those who are saying that forklifts are already good at everything, forklifts require pallets or pallets like bottoms to really work, something like this, while not perfect in this iteration, could possibly eliminate pallets entirely in some applications. Also with some additional features this could work with pallets too, and most of the cost would decrease with mass production. It could be an extremely useful side grade to forklifts or a complete upgrade depending on how many features of forklifts are integrated into it.
I remember watching the first vid of the series in my childhood home. Now I’ve graduated and I’m in post secondary. Crazy to think of how much time and dedication has gone into this project. Amazing!
This is beyond making something real, you guys just created an actual highly practical piece of heavy machinery. Like this is super versatile in comparison to a forklift or skid loader. LOVE IT
You could probably install different grip pads for certain tasks such as barbed pads for moving stuff like that 800 lb log. You could have different grip attachment variations. Glad to see the power loader project finally complete!
I was so freakin' satisfied when I saw the Power Loader take the car effortlessly. I've been watching the entire series, the full 17 episodes, over the past three years, and finally seeing it done is like a much welcomed gift that suddenly appeared without giving a clue. This thing made my freaking day.
I’ve worked with hydraulic systems for the last ten years. Dealing with pressures from 5psi - 45,000psi. And the power of hydraulics still amazes me to this day. This machine is incredible.

They could obviously make a bunch of cheap videos and farm views, instead they make things they really want to make and play with it seems. I could die happy if I got to drive this thing. Holy freaking moly.
I can definitely see this being useful in many things from construction to search and rescue. This behemoth with its fine control would make moving debri from a collapsed structure easy. And if a custom fire hose adaptation where added to a firetruck being able to break a door open while spraying water would make warehouse fires easier to enter. For an upgrade a demolition blade for it like the jaws of life would be awesome.
@@jameson1239 it could still be used to work through collapsed buildings without having to climb over obstacles though. It's definitely impressive that it can pick up an element without lifting the back of the tracks.

It needs a MFD in the top corner, just to be able to read pressures and temperatures, would be the perfect use for a wide angle backup camera, to make it safer Also, giant Bolt Cutters on the inside of the grips, to chop up metal beams!
Here is an idea for an upgrade. You said that forklift is better, which it is, than powerloader for the task of moving stuff. but what if you want it to work like a forklift? You have 2 independent arms. The problem is keeping those two arms aligned when lifting, so you bend stuff. My idea is to program a button that when pressed a code would align those two arms vertically (higher one drops, lower one rises; they meet in the middle relative to each other automatically) and lock them relative to each other. You could still move the wrists independently left/right, and maybe not rotate.
The amount of possibilities this thing opens up is amazing. It’s more versatile than a skid loader or forklift and the possibility of attachment’s makes it even better. You could make a wood splitting attachment so it could split with one hand and stack with the other, it could have forks attached and be able to move object much more easily in a warehouse or something, you could put a bucket on it so it would pretty much be a skid loader, somebody smarter than me could probably think of more real world uses for it. If someone like Caterpillar overhauled it and made it suitable for mass production you could stand to make a lot of money off of it. I feel it would definitely be useful for people in all sorts of industries.
@@simat565 how would that work? Maybe if it’s a road accident but anything with rough terrain or a task that requires you to be carful is not an option

If it’s a good construction equipment it would have been introduced when the prop was first seen in the Alien movies. Sure it’s a cool prop but just looking at the height as well as the arms this thing has a very poor center of mass as well as the fact that it doesn’t actually have proper protection for the operator which makes it a big health hazard on construction sites, not saying hack smith didn’t do a great job it’s just not practical.
The Powerloader is so cool. And if you want upgrades ideas (from the mind of a non-enginier) here are some: some extra weight at the bottom so its less wobbly in rare occasions like 19:30, an optional leg guard, door thing, a protective window in the front of the cage, side mirrors, cup holders, tool holder for when you need to fix the loader, a drill arm?
I was going to write that. I've seen people get injured just horsing around with a forklift that has a UL/CSA approved enclosed cab and guard. Seeing Bogdan with his bare legs out gave me the "someone's going to get hurt" feelings. It needs a full cage, and one with an analysis done to ensure it will survive a fall forward. Bursting hydraulics under pressure can cut skin and will kill you if the oil gets in your blood stream. It needs a screen on the flanks of the cab.
Being one of the many who have followed this from the begining, guys, well done. So happy to see this finished. Since CAT helped, suggest to them they take your design, and make it a production model. :)
I’m glad that the guy in charge of the power loader got to enjoy it most and more screen time. He definitely deserves it! What an INCREDIBLE ACCOMPLISHMENT!

I could absolutely see this as being used as an emergency services vehicle used to help clean up damage when natural disasters strike. I live in an area that gets a lot of tornadoes so I could see dozens of these going around picking up debris after storms.
I've been watching this since day one and to see it completed fills me with so much joy! Also after watching this I feel like the power loader could actually have practical applications in industrial environments! The range of motion far surpasses any forklift and the ability to change out the claws for other attachments would be insane. I don't think you understand what you just did for the world as a whole. Not only did you complete an amazing passion project for the sake of entertainment but you've also developed an entirely new technology that up until this point was only theoretical. I really hope you guys try to implement this device into the actual workforce and maybe get in contact with CAT for production. I would love to see Powerloaders everywhere one could be used, especially with the Hacksmith logo glistening in the light!
A couple things I noted. One, in the shop it was amusing to see y'all hunting for whatever might be acceptable to sacrifice for the purposes of "science". Later, when attempting to pull the door off the car and there was an audible pop-that's why firefighters have to be so careful when working with Hurst tools, trying to get patients out. That's the side airbag line popping, which has been known to seriously injure or kill firefighters. Personally, I would have stayed back farther while fiddling with the car. Particularly once I'd seen just what it was previously capable of doing. Really, really cool to see this build come to completion.
This is so cool. The power loaders in Aliens were why I worked in Robotics - and ended up working in Movie Special Effects! We've built some really cool rigs - but nothing as cool as this!
I actually see this thing being useful ;O And as for upgrades, I think if you could somehow use a glove control system for more fine control this thing could be amazing even more.
I have one simple challenge: Will you be able to use your fancy Powerloader to move your supplies, items, or tools around your workshop? Kinda dull but you have an awesome power vehicle now! I also need to ask; how would Ridley Scott (Alien) and James Cameron (Aliens) react to your success?
I would replace the joysticks with a glove style controller. Maybe some presets for certain functions. Like grabbing something with both hands and rotating and ripping it apart. Or being able to lift something with both arms working together instead of relying on the operator Very impressive work guys
I can't imagine how proud, relieved and excited you guys truly are to have completed this massive project. It turned out really well and I a ton of fun I am sure. Seeing how you guys work away at that car, it actually seems kind of reasonable to have a "picker" like that to disassemble cars for scrap processing. It's not an unrealistic approach and that is why I love it! Another alien head and Sigourney Weaver crushing it would be bad ass. I wonder if she is actually interested.
This is absitively posolutely redonkulous! But it goes to show that once upon a time, movie props had real thought behind them to be real usable things. Just watching this video, the capabilities of such a machine, in the hands of a live OR of a REMOTE operator, are impressive. The precision that it can handle, combined with the range of motion possible, and that STRENGTH. I could see real companies like CAT approaching Hacksmith Industries for the rights to mass produce this. Even at the ridiculous prototype costs (let alone at future mass production cost reductions) I could see real construction sites, rescue teams, or even warehouses wanting one on-site. Awesome work Hacksmith Industries team!
Awesome to see it going, for upgrading it needs a quick tool change setup and a rack for all the future tools so it can be easily changed with no spanners or lifting, just the driver and maybe a hose fitting or two.
i was literally wondering how the movie made it checked out the video and then the comments were talking about this, came here and saw what you guys made. my personal opinion give it another 15 to 20 years and companies will start calling you to ask for the patients on this. i honestly see these going into mass production in the next 20 years.

Forklifts outperform it in every way. It's a cool novelty, but not mich else
As a super expensive oversized toy it is spot on, but as far as real world functionality is concerned it is completely outclassed by already existing equipment. I can't even think of a niche setting where it would excel.
@@dickthedorkwing6082 the arms are quite dexterous for equipment I have seen, perhaps this thing would be useful in Amazon's warehouses for moving pallets? like change pallets A and B
in a normal forklift, you pick up pallet B, put it on the floor, pick up pallet A and place it on the place of B, then pick up B from the floor and put it where A was...
with the powerloader, you can hold B in the air, and switch them a bit faster, and remember each second counts for Bezos crew...
I didn’t see it do anything a backhoe with a thumb couldn’t do a lot better. Don’t get me wrong, it’s super cool and impressive for lots of reasons, but I can’t imagine what kind of niche it could serve better than existing equipment.

Got a few ideas for upgrades:
Totally agree... functionality.
Or you could just have skill XD
All machines like this in the real world from forklifts to cranes to giant mining excavators all have the power to to destroy the stuff they're loading to them selves
It's all in operator skill
Alolt of people just think of machine operators as a job that you do if you fail at school but its a highly skilled area of work
This machine already has the fine control to do the fine work they just have to learn how to drive it
Anyway the "real" one in the movie obviously had alot of power to battle the alien
So they can't be turning this one down I case they gotta fight some sort of monster
Yeah, destruction is great, but I'd like to see how well it could move pallets full of things.
Allthough all good advice they wanted to build it as. Lose to movie specifications as possible
@@khristianboulton7123 Well, they did ask for upgrade ideas.
Thanks
So basically you’re saying rebuild it 3x the size…
The fact that this is actually functional makes the project even more exciting to see
An upgrade I'd like to see is perhaps some sort of sensor(s) on the clamps, so that the Power Loader doesn't crush absolutely everything it grabs.

Yea if I worked in a lumber yard and watched the clip of him man handling a log like a broom handle I'd consider its viability.
You would need more protection around the operator when dealing with large debris but it would be good for that.
I’m honestly interested in seeing how it performs as an actual warehouse vehicle/tool as opposed to something more traditional
Fork lifts are just better practically
@@theskyisblue8979 agreed, however, this could be useful for disasters.

You can upgrade the oil pressure lines. This soft tubing is way easier to puncture. You can also work on a shielding the pilot, because in some situations there are shrapnels everywhere. Speaking from experience :)
Oh yeah, I can’t count how many times pieces of pallets have come down on us at work.
I’m sure mk2 in digital camo will have a full lexan cell 😉
Nothing stops the alien's acid blood
To all those who are saying that forklifts are already good at everything, forklifts require pallets or pallets like bottoms to really work, something like this, while not perfect in this iteration, could possibly eliminate pallets entirely in some applications. Also with some additional features this could work with pallets too, and most of the cost would decrease with mass production. It could be an extremely useful side grade to forklifts or a complete upgrade depending on how many features of forklifts are integrated into it.

I feel it would definitely be useful for people in all sorts of industries.

a protective window in the front of the cage,
side mirrors, cup holders, tool holder for when you need to fix the loader,
a drill arm?
Oh and make the window have like a holographic screen or smth.
@@ellitheus4981 transparent oled with bulletproof window in front?
I was going to write that. I've seen people get injured just horsing around with a forklift that has a UL/CSA approved enclosed cab and guard. Seeing Bogdan with his bare legs out gave me the "someone's going to get hurt" feelings. It needs a full cage, and one with an analysis done to ensure it will survive a fall forward. Bursting hydraulics under pressure can cut skin and will kill you if the oil gets in your blood stream. It needs a screen on the flanks of the cab.
Maybe they could also find a way to protect the hydraulic tubes because they look susceptible to getting pinched or severed.

Very impressive work guys
This thing wielding a scaled - up protosaber would be insane
So would the heat emitted XD
It would be the next step in the inevitable path to a battlemech.
Apparently they’re working on different attachments so a giant protosaber could be something we see in the future
Would love to see detachable arms with different utilities, drills, cutters, rams maybe even some kind of hydraulic cannon?
I actually have no words.. i didnt even know that was possible to make but it ACTUALLY IS
im imagining it would BE SOO much fun to use it
This is absitively posolutely redonkulous! Awesome work Hacksmith Industries team!
yessss
Awesome to see it going, for upgrading it needs a quick tool change setup and a rack for all the future tools so it can be easily changed with no spanners or lifting, just the driver and maybe a hose fitting or two.
There's someone else who is an Aliens fan and has experience with operating heavy machinery. Adam Savage would love to give this thing a spin!
i was literally wondering how the movie made it checked out the video and then the comments were talking about this, came here and saw what you guys made. my personal opinion give it another 15 to 20 years and companies will start calling you to ask for the patients on this. i honestly see these going into mass production in the next 20 years.
After years of seeing this built, i have to say. Very good job, wonderful to see her in action. Truly amazing!
I can imagine this being integrated with today's construction
I can too but there’s the legal side of it if they patent it
@@ewanayres9576 patents don’t work all you have to do is change the color
@@someguy2352 that’s not how patents work. They will run out tho. So if they can’t find and pay the inventor for permission they will eventually be able to built in anyways given like 70 years
@@ewanayres9576 Gotta remember it's still a CAT that's moving this thing.
This is amazing, the Power Loader was the first project I saw from the Hacksmith, and seeing the climax of this destruction test really made me smile. Also Happy Thanksgiving, Hacksmith team!
They Canadian. They did thiers a few months ago
there is absolutely no reason this needs to exist. I love it. Thank you for doing this!!!
This project is so amazing! I do think some different pads for the grabbers would be cool. Like claws to grip on to wood or foam ones to do more delicate handling. Great work can’t wait to see more.
The work completed on the power loader is amazing to see! I've been watching since the beginning and this project is such an impressive feat of engineering, designing, and building! It's been an honor to watch the process and now to see it in its completion
fun fact, bogdan had to walk home after they destroyed the car
nah, he got the power loader
@@KrisWithAK810 Yeah, 0.000001km/h. He'll get there. Eventually. One day. Also, why the f would you destroy someone's car?
@@xor_the_protogen content lmao
I like how major contruction equipment corporations haven't thought of this but an engineer on RUclips has
