Let's Go Brando's Garage! Seeing these vintage "rebuilds" gives me weird satisfaction. There is something oddly nostalgic with pre internet era 2-stroke stuff
That was a cool episode, I enjoyed it. Couple of observations: 1 - use thread lubricant or anti-seize on EVERY thread, jet skis are worse than anything you've ever worked on, you'll appreciate it later. 2- you need driveline bearings, that's that whining sound that sounds like a supercharger. That's also where all the mess in the hull came from. 3 - Chokes suck, just replace the primer pump when they go bad and keep a spare on hand. Fun video and you resurrected another one from the dead! Awesome! 👍
If it floats and has a motor, you'll figure out how it works. Another good video on diagnosing what isn't working right. I think soon your expertise on outboard and water toys will have you fixing others problems.
One problem with the choke is it may last exactly to the end of the ski's lifetime. The screws could potentially fall into the intake. Rare, but it does happen. Also not as good for starting if it has sat a long time or ran out of gas. Choke plates add restriction too. But you're right, the plunger primers suck. Which is why I got a pack of chainsaw primers for under $1 each.
Now 2 of them on a trailer ! If ya can’t sit it’s not for me ! Lol. Question-> on your work bench how big is the opening to work on outboards ? I like yours so much I’m building one for myself only with perhaps a built in tank to test them ! I don’t have a nice portable Evinrude test tank like yours ! Lol By the way I have some room in the box and is there anything you need ?
Smart move on the crank seals. I replace mine every season. Also, kudos on getting a round body BN carb working. My way of fixing them was to promptly eject them into the trash and replace with a SBN haha
@@LanierNutJob You'll need to find a SBN44 if you have a 550, otherwise use a SBN38. Rebuild it with a genuine Mikuni parts kit, jets and needle seat. Jetting will be specific to your mods and elevation.
@@Superhonda-z50 man I just saw this. Thanks for the response, I'm rebuilding a 1987 440. Pretty stock motor, from what I've heard it's best to sue away with the round body & get a sbn
After I realized a 650SX has just enough power to move my fat ass around, I kinda wrote off the 550 and especially the 440, but they look so cool! Really nice classic lines and it brings me back to the original days when my dad bought one.
I would suggest getting a 750sx or sxi, they have tons of power especially on the low end but rip on the top too. And they damn sure handle better than any 650 ever
@@elicarter1356 I rode my cousin's 800 SX-R and it had plenty of power and the hull was so much more stable it made my 650 look dumb as hell. Showed how much time I wasted just to save a few thousand bucks.
Correct! It works, but adjusting it sucks. However, if aligned even close you don't really need to. Bigger problem is coils are no longer available, even NOS ones are extremely rare.

Conversation reenactment was hilarious. Great vid as always.

Nice revival! Reminds me a lot of a Kawi X2 (w/ 650) I brought back from the dead a few years back.
That lake you we’re on was like glass great job thanks I never worked on a jet ski interesting video
Thanks for sharing the videos. Making me want to get a PWC now
You need more views this content is awesome.
hahaha, hell yeah! love the story behind the build!
This has strong This Old Tony Vibes...you two should collab!

Yup, that is a very '80s color scheme. Reminds me of my '80s pontoon boat, lol.
Thanks! You make great videos!
I would love to see your wastewater treatment setup in detail. Almost everybody improperly disposes of used wash water from cleaning oily engines.

What's the best way to replace the round body BN carb? Is there a specific model you use + any adapters needed? Thanks

Are you going to make a video on the green johnson 70 in the back?
Do you have a list of where you got these parts from

interesting sensor coil setup. so no inner timing magnet for it , hence the need to adjust the whole stator to time it correctly i'm assuming?

@@BrandonsGarage oh bummer! i wonder if you could use yamaha, suzuki or Tohatsu outboard coils. they look really similar on the Japanese brands.
Did it say oil on your can? And thank you for saying petrol. Christine hates that I say that and service station lol
Great vid
Hey I just bought this ski from a guy from kingman az and I’m Currently in the middle of painting it.
I picked it up a little less than a month ago for a pretty good deal.
Dad jokes are flyin!
Nice
