    Thanks! The attenuation was the key item I knew I was missing. I haven't tried recording off the headphone jack yet, but I know that the signal coming over that cable has enough power to drive the headphone speakers - which is nothing compared with driving room speakers, but potentially enough to fry the preamps in a recorder, or at least overwhelm them.

    Great tips, I leaned the need of a separate audio recorder the hard way, on our Bahamas or Bust Series, the GoPro that we "WAS" using for audio overheated and we lost the audio, so the other camera was pretty much useless without audio. Now with a separate audio recorder, you can salvage the video even if you loose a camera for whatever reason. We leave the audio on for the entire flight as you never know when something interesting pops up on ATC, and usually does if a camera is off . . . Hope to see ya at 1K1 next month!

    Great info, Bryan. My camera setup, as you may have already noticed from my videos, is similar to yours. I use 30 fps, will give 24 fps a try. One thing I wanted to ask you is your resolutions. It looks like you shoot at 2.7k 24 fps; what is your final production resolution? I shoot at 2.7k 30 fps but export to 4K, as I heard YT does not degrade quality at that resolution.

    • @Wolficorntv
      @Wolficorntv  4 года назад +2

      I usually shoot at 2.7k 24. 4k is often overkill, uses more power, plus in some of my cameras you can't shoot linear at 4k. I edit and upload all my YT videos at 1920x1080.

    Nice! I've been contemplating doing my own RUclips channel flying the Tiger with my son. I have HERO 3 and HERO 5, but I really like to upgrade and get a 7 or 8. I also have a SONY digital audio recorder that I've used in the past. The issue is editing software. I've used the Microsoft product that came with Windows 7, but I've upgraded to Windows 10 and they replaced it with something that seems to have less functionality. I guess I may have to invest in a better software package for editing. This was very helpful! Thanks for sharing.

      As far as GoPros go, they have a perpetual deal where you can trade in any old camera and get $100 off an 8. Obviously the faster the better for editing systems. I'm not too familiar with the windows machines, but you might want to check out Da Vinci Resolve for editing. It's excellent software for editing and color correction and it's FREE!! Learning curve might be a little steep, however.

    Thank you! I wish you had covered how you manage turning your cameras on and off. I’ve struggled with the GoPro app and remote. Seems like I have them all working until I get to the hangar and put them on the airplane. How do you manage this, especially your external cameras?

    • @Wolficorntv
      @Wolficorntv  4 года назад +4

      Honestly I could have made this a 5 part series b/c there is so much to cover. Battery management is certainly an issue. I don't use the app much b/c they rely on Wifi, which sucks power. The gopro remote is hit or miss for externally mounted cameras. My guess is there is there is perhaps interference with avionics. For the remote, my experience has been that it works consistently turning on the first time...but very unreliable after that. My solution, so far, is to make sure I get what I want before the battery dies and land if I need to change the battery. Not ideal.

    • @GMascelli
      @GMascelli 4 года назад

      Troy,
      For my tail tie down camera I know I can get an hour of video. I carry extra batteries and change when I land. As Bryan mentioned Wi-Fi or Bluetooth gobbles up battery life.
      For internal cameras I hook up to a battery bank and it will outlast my video data card ;)

    • @TakingOff
      @TakingOff 4 года назад +1

      @@Wolficorntv I've had trouble with the GoPro remote as well. And the app is horrible for the exterior cameras. My best solution so far is the battery packs for the external mounted. Ryan and FlightFLix has some hot point solutions, feeding power to points exterior plane, but I haven't tried that yet.

    • @gsukumargmail

      If your camera is under the wing, remotes are useless once airborne, they seem to work on the ground probably due to reflected signal from the ground.

      Hey. There are multiple music subscription libraries out there for various budgets. For music I used one called Artlist. There are stock footage libraries as well, but they typically work on a per shot basis...but I've never used stock footage for any of my videos.

  • @SirJer
    @SirJer Год назад

    I know this is an old video, but I have a question regarding putside cameras. How do you control these, more importantly stretch out the battery life? If you have to fly a half hour to get somewhere, won't the camera be dead when you want it most?

    • @Wolficorntv
      @Wolficorntv  Год назад

      Outside cameras can be a PITA but they can make great images so we endure the pain :) I have tried using remotes for the cameras but they are unreliable plus they suck up more battery. The best way is to just start before the flight and let it record until the battery dies or the flight ends. There are aftermarket battery attachments to extend battery life but I don’t use them for various reasons (but others do and they can often work well). A few times for important shoots, I have run a usb cable from a power brick inside. It requires a lot of planning and gaffers tape so not very realistic for everyday use. Also…they higher frame rate and resolution you shoot eats up more battery so don’t shoot at 5K 30 frames per second when 2K will suffice.

    I've only been up in a Cessna once. It felt like I was flying in a kite. I did have a dream that came true.
    My Psychic Dream
    GOOD FRIDAY MARCH 25, 2016 I had a dream this morning. I dreamt that I was just standing there looking out a window, and the sky just started rolling up like a scroll, I was only confused for a second, and I started yelling "HE'S HERE...HE'S HERE!!!" I remember this overwhelming sense of excitement, It made me cry when I woke up about 5:30 a.m. Not like from a nightmare....In the year 1993, I had a dream...but first I wrote this in my diary.
    God are you there listening to me? I know when you'll answer because my heart will agree. God if you are there listening to me, if you please don't mind can you send me a sign? Was it a sign or just a dream, you decide.
    Friday morning 6-4-1993...
    I dreamt about a mid-air collision between two air crafts. In my dream I looked up into the sky, just as one plane curved into the other, a white and blue striped helicopter fell upside down in front of me. Its tail section on top of the fence and the tail rotor was still spinning hitting the fence...tink..tink..tink..tink...tink...I was trying to run but could barely move. There was a road and open fields with fences and corrals on one side of the street (burned grass and burning fence) and on the other side of the street there was a line of very large, tall trees. I don't remember if in my dream, If I knew where I was at, at that time. The very next day, however, I was not aware of what happened on 6-4-1993.
    On Saturday, 6-5-1993, about 11:30 a.m. at Chino airport during a rain storm. Two planes collided- one a Cessna and the other was a home built Lancair 320. It was white with blue trim, it hit the Cessna's tail and the Cessna landed upside down after spinning to the ground. The other plane went down at an angle, its nose made a hole where it hit. Three people died, two in the Cessna and one in the Lancair. I did not find out until I read the Sunday paper on 6-6-1993. I never knew the victims or the surviving family members, but I did learn, years later, that their family business is near our home, with no other link to them but our prayers. The news paper was The Daily Bulletin in Ontario, California. Life can be unpredictable so pay attention to your dreams, I especially pay attention to ones I have on Fridays mornings.
    "Money is not an abundance in my life,...fortunately Love is." Thank You for reading and have a safe and blessed Easter weekend.

    How do you handle exposure in the cam above your head so that you can see both outside and also the panel inside? In mine either the panel is too dark or outside is too light. Also, how do you get rid of prop artifacts on that camera?

    • @Wolficorntv
      @Wolficorntv  4 года назад +2

      If you were shooting a hollywood movie, you would try to equalize the exposure by increasing brightness on the inside and/or decreasing the outside exposure. Since that's not realistic for 99.9% of pilots there are a few things to make it "less bad." One thing you can do is use the "exposure lock" feature to choose what part of the image you want the camera to base its exposure on. Another way is to shoot in Protune mode to maximize your dynamic range and then color correct in post. You could also play around with graduated ND filters. In the end...it's not easy. I have found combining the first two methods to get decent results. Also, overcast days are better b/c it's not as bright outside.
      As far as prop artifacts, pop a ND filter on the lens. I must confess I usually don't do this, even though I should!! I included a link to some ND filters in my "gear list" in the description. Otherwise a little google-fu will get you where you need to be.

    • @Wolficorntv

      The gopro remote works fairly well for multiple cameras inside the plane (but also easy to just manually do it.) It isn't reliable for externally mounted cameras, in my experience. There's also the gopro app. Both of these involve keeping WiFi turned on, which shortens battery life. Those are the only options that I am currently aware of.
