There are linear roller ways and ball screws gallore on automation overstock on sale. thats a big machine for only 4500$ thats. the cnc motors and drive are cheap on ebay. i saw a huge cincinatty hydrotel for 2780$ and its a monster. There's also explox granite DIY lathes and mills also. this would be great for my DIY 2 stroke engine project.

I would fabricate a longer one that could hug a larger portion of the motor's body to get out every last drop of stability.

@@robertraderjr6714 2 or 3 grand just for the spindle? Probably more like around €1000 and that's including the spindle head, spindle motor, and the entire Z-axis assembly. You can get multi-KW spindle motors from China pretty cheaply these days, and the same goes for all the parts needed to make and power each axis.

      @pieterveenders9793 10 месяцев назад

Not to discredit this guy's awesome work, but so say it's ultra high standard and the best one around is exaggerated. It lacks the mass needed for damping which a professional (CNC) mill has, this mill probably weighs several hundred kilo while you want something of at least 800-100 kg, preferably even more. Also, it would have been much better to make it out of epoxy granite or UHPC instead of a welded steel frame, not just because using either epoxy granite or UHPC is a great way to add a lot of weight to it for damping but especially because they're very suitable materials due to their dampening characteristics. But most of the reason you don't want to make it from a heavy welded steel frame is because unless you stress relieve said frame it's going to have substantial stresses from the welding which will negatively affect its accuracy and is bound to warp once pressure is applied to it (which is precisely what happens during use).
All in all it's a great build and very impressive, don't get me wrong! And it will definitely be able to go through aluminium and even steel with plenty of ease, at decent accuracy too. Just wanted to point out important facts and details.

Cast iron machine body/structure provide good vibration dumping system. Cast steel machine body/structure provide the same as cast iron with extra strength of the material for high force machining condition especially in Industrial/commercial used. This design with structural steel used with welded joining normally face a problem of residual stress. Residual stresses can be large enough to cause component distortion or cracking. Also, fatigue and stress corrosion cracking require the presence of tensile stresses.
I believe that this machine will produce appropriate quality/part dimension for ordinary job. If possible, heat treatment for certain machine component might be recommended especially when the machine is purposely design for long run operational like an industrial machine

nice mill if you are going to run mist coolent or an air blow you will want shields I worked in field service for 35 years , i wish people with hopes of machineing metal could experience real machine shop cnc lathes and mills, there is no substitute for 20-50 hp spindles and box weys and heavy castings, there is hardly any side pressure milling wood , hobby is hobby and metal machining is expensive, , I have a miltronics partner 1 and a hardinge chnc in the garage and they are ok, I now machine for fun because I love machining and make fixtures and one piece parts for shops, my 10hp rotary phase converter adds $400 to my electric bill

As a professional mechanical engineer being in industry since 40 years I know what I'm talking about and I can honestly compliment, that this is definately one of (if not the) best DIY build I've ever seen. You really master craftsmanship. The only point which I have - is the bigger mill on which you machined most of the parts yours? If so, why didn't you upgrade the existing one? I mean it has already DRO and stepper motors and wider travel in all axis, so what was then the reason for a new build? Just for fun :-))) ???

Outstanding build! Your spindle looks like it's ISO30, not BT30, though. You're not set up for rigid tapping, so it really doesn't matter which one you use. Thanks for sharing!

Me parece muy interesante el video y debe salir muy económico hoy en día la precisión la da una maquina CNC

jippee! i made me myself a CNC milling machine, so now i can 3D-print me some door handles for it. lol, just kiddin'.
it's a really great job Vince! i surely want to do something like this myself but i dont think i will be able to complete such a masterpiece and have nor the knowledge but especially the patience to do so.
my brains already can and will make use of the Fehlmann and/or Mikron CNC machine's i use daily at my work, but i 'am affraid i dont think i have the knowledge to convince my boss that i need these to do some private fabricating for my own purpose.
    thumbs-up! great job.

Thx Jan. I knew someone will pick on those 3D printer door handles lol. I normally try to stay away from printing parts unless I am lazy. Cheers.

Awesome Pro machine you got there. I am intending to make my self a small CNC machine for the use in the apartment. Seems to be able to make it I will need first some Chinese CNC than on it make upgrades to be able to make parts to make my own CNC. I will have to use aluminum though. I wish it gets like 1/10th stable as yours is. It will way smalle so it will be less of a challenge to. Seeing yours made me first happy to see someone builds something so cool and then sad while I do not have access to such tools to make one plus no space to have such a nice beast. Awesome work.

Super Fräse ich fräse alles mit einer konfentionellen Fräse und einem Rundfrästteiltisch . Das ist sehr aufwändig da ist deine Fräse besser für Duplikate geeignet .

    Just brilliant!
Although you managed to build it on your own and save a ton of cash, it shows, to me anyway, the engineering goes into the TOP end machines!

that is the nicest damn build I've seen so far on YT. I wish I had a Bridgeport mill to make the parts. I'd start tomorrow if I had the equipment. NICE BUILD, THANKS FOR THE VIDEO!!
