  • Many of you have been asking for the story behind our kids' names. We have 8 kids (and a puppy), and all their names are pretty unique! Each has a very distinct story...and here they are! This is a video I did for Instagram that I thought I'd share here as well.
    ⭐️Brandtsen Hutchings "Hutch" Page
⭐️Priya Jean Page (Grandma Jean loved aspens too! / aspenhilllodgeco )
    ⭐️Beck Avon Page
⭐️Daivy Kaye Page (ps I had her plug her bloody nose for 5 minutes which is why she asked me if her timer was up, ha!)
⭐️Mory June Page (inspired the moryjune.com name!)
    ⭐️McEwan Fisher Page
    ⭐️Joss Jordan Page
⭐️Devereux Clarke Page (forgot your mention that, come to find out, we have a long line of French Canadian ancestors and we have Devereux’s in our line! Crazy, right??)
⭐️Rome the Bernese (see the Italy photos at / romethebernese )
    So there you have it!
Anyone else have any cool name experiences? And please tell me I’m not the only one that thinks naming a human is a lot of pressure 😅😬.

One of my biggest concerns was something that looked professional on a business card and something that was pretty much a name with no obvious nicknames. It’s confusing when you’re known at work by your nickname but your card and correspondence has a different name! So I was looking at things like Sarah, John, etc (can you tell it was an issue for me? 😂)

    • @marie_sarii6966

Yes! Sarah was one of the names I liked, but my husband mixed it. Not sure why. We ended up with an Emily. It’s got some possible nicknames, but none that people would presume on. And, it turns out, she hated people changing her name - when she was only 2, a neighbor kept calling her Emmy. I never said anything as she was a sweet older lady and it did no harm. But one day when Emily was 2 1/2, she turned to the neighbor and said, “Don’t call me that! My name is Emily!” We we’re all flabbergasted, but nobody was offended and she was never “Emmy” again! 😂😂 So I guess it turned out well that I decided to choose something with no obvious nicknames!

Your middle name story reminded me of my daughter. Her name is Michelle Ann and she knew how to spell her name when she went to school. However, she was confusing "Ann" and "and". I have a little pottery bowl she made me in second grade at school signed "Michelle &". Needless to say it's still precious to me even though she will be 40 this year!

Native Americans(Indians)!change name multiple times, during a lifetime... aknowledgeing the changes in ones life...I took on ,the tradition...so I've now changed name 5 times... honouring parents and grandparents as a child/tween...in adolescence I picked a random name describing my activity...and now my name will be native to my father's county...for the rest of my life or until something Spectacular (marriage etc) happens...
All these changes of name, makes it way easier, for me, to figure out, from where/when, I know/knew,a person😉
I usually only socialize, with the same person for 5-10 years...

I absolutely LOVE name stories so thank you for sharing this! My daughter is named the fairly common and popular, Sofía. Since we're Puertorican we chose to spell it in Spanish rather than with "ph." And her name was essentially chosen for her. When I was 11 I was in the hospital and had just been diagnosed with a severe, rare blood disorder. I was scared I was going to die (as it turns out I WAS deathly sick) and that first night in the hospital I had a dream where I heard a thundering voice telling me to not be afraid. That I would survive because I would one day have a little girl named Sofía who would change the world. I woke up the next morning and assured my mom I wouldn't die and told her all about the dream. 22 years later I miraculously became pregnant with my first (and, ultimately, my only) child and when we found out it was a girl we immediately knee this was THE Sofía I'd been waiting for for over two decades. Since the first name was technically my choice, my hubby chose her middle name. He'd always liked the name Jezebel from the Bible. At first I was vehemently opposed but after a lot of research we've come to believe that Jezebel's reputation was tainted throughout history. Historical researchers have concluded that Jezebel was actually strong, intelligent woman who was far ahead of her time. She was such a brilliant, independent businesswoman that the men around her felt their oppressive "machismo" threatened . And so they did to Jezebel what has been done to so many women throughout history: they destroyed her reputation. Since most all books/historical accounts back then were written by men her name was forever tainted. With the negative connotation removed from my mind, I finally saw just how beautiful the name Jezebel actually is. And so, that's how Jezebel became my daughter's middle name. I don't think I would've felt comfortable making it her first name because even if our opinions of the name are totally positive we don't expect the world's mindset to change just because ours did. We didn't want our girl to suffer because we gave her a name with a historically negative connotation. She's 9 now & she loves her name because it's unique edgy & unexpected...just like her.

It's funny how something such as spelling of a name makes all the difference.
My husband's name starts with an R and since we were having a boy a started with "R" names... 200 names later (husband agreed with nada) I said how about Riot.. he said yes, our family was so confused why we would name our son Riot. Eventually the spelling ended up being Ryatt and everyone loves his name now. He's still our Riot (a bright display of color) but also our Ryatt meaning (lightning)⚡ so it was fitting. The kid lights the room up so its perfect.

Don’t know the gender of our 5th and final baby and struggling with a boy name. I kinda gave my husband naming rights for this one so he did finally settle on a first name and now asked for help with the middle name. Definitely going to dig a little deeper into family history now because all of our boys have family names within their names. Loved that you had an honest convo with your no longer living grandma on the name. I have actually considered doing that with my grandpa because we want to In corporate his name somehow but don’t actually like his first or middle name.

in danish "sen" is used as an ending for somebody being the son of. Last names such as Jensen (son of Jens) and Olsen (son of Ole) comes from this tradition, I found it very cute that Brandtsen would mean the son of Brandt in Danish. Fun fact Brandt is also a danish lastname meaning "burned"

Awwwww!! When I was 9, I FELL in love with the Bernese Mtn Dog. I wrote to the AKC and requested info on them (this was before the Internet). We lived in a tiny home and in so cal where it’s never cold, so my mom never let me! Now I live in Idaho and maybe I will live my dreams out. So sweet!

I was so excited when I heard you named your daughter Priya. Priya is part of my name. It's Sanskirt for dear or the dearest to someone. My respect for you has grown hearing about your experience in Chennai. Thank you for all the guidance and advice you've given me. I'm only just entering adulthood and I want to do it smartly.
I also really like Daivy. It sounds just like devi, or goddess, in Sanskirt.

Loved getting to hear the stories about the names you chose. I’ve often wondered how you spelled Daivy. Long story short: I was not given a middle name by my parents and did not like my given name. In my mid 30s, I picked up the nickname of Dave. As part of my midlife crisis, I got tired of people telling me it wasn’t my real name, so I legally added it. Daivy won’t be nearly as confusing for your kiddo as Dave has been for me, and if I had heard her name years ago I may have swiped it! Side note: since I actually knew Bubba as Brandt, I probably would have said Brandtsen correctly. 🤗

McEwan will always be my favorite, obviously, but I appreciate all of the unique names you've chosen. While I never plan to have children, you voiced every naming insecurity I would ever have ("What will this look like on a nametag? A diploma? A business card? Will they have to share my frustration of not being able to find 90s-era kitsch with their name already printed on it?! Dear Lord - what if they work in a call center?!!")
I also love the name Devereux and the sad fact the he will (inevitably) develop the ability to watch a teacher/professor's eyeballs go across his name and be able to help them before they butcher it. In my small hometown everyone knew how to say my last name, but once I got to college I found that it really throws some people for a loop.

People need to listen with their ears and not their eyes. My whole life I have had to explain my names to adults. But say it once to a kid and they get it first time.

Names are so important! I named myself Risa Lyn when I was 2yrs old. My mom picked out a beautiful name for me- but it wasn’t me! Also we just adopted a Russian Blue Cat-on the drive home she was crying. Her original name was Misty, but then we decided to change her name. My husband wanted to name her Starr- I asked her if her name was Starr and she stopped crying! Names are important and I think finding the True Name of someone, finding the essence of their soul is one of the most precious and liberating things you can do.

I have 14 children all planned and they are all my husband and my children... a Rhonda Lynn, John Edward, Eric Stephen, Elizabeth Diane, Emily Kayla, Carlton Harris, Bryan Tomas, Sterling Alexander, Brandon Mark, Levi Michael, Molly Ann, Charles Scott, Samuel Levi and Jeffrey Asher simple plain America names easy to spell respectful for when they get older❤ and I agree it's a big responsibility giving your child a name. Love your children names, sounds like you had fun naming them.
