Best sounding dread ever made.. and I'm a luthier at Bourgeois!
I’m sure I don’t need to tell you this, but you are a joy to listen to, not only with your playing, but your laid-back, straight-shooting, and knowledgeable commentary is good for the soul. It’s wonderful to finally find a Gallagher aficionado! It’s always been a humble company based in the heart of bluegrass country. There are so many “boutique” brands out there now that it makes my head spin and, after buying a SG-50 a few months ago, I couldn’t agree more that Gallagher should be thought of as among the best of the best. I’m happy to hear that the company is thriving under its not-so-new management. David, Raina, and their hand chosen team have been at it for five years now, long enough to be a viable indication of where the company is headed. I knew that you had some involvement with the company, but until now, I had not realized the extent. I don’t think they could have found anyone more qualified to form an allegiance with. I have no doubt that that will help sell Gallagher guitars and keep you in the business of playing a Gallagher for years to come.
Thank you for the great review. I couldn’t be anymore pleased with my SG-50!😮
Man!!! You get all the good guitars.....well at least we get to hear them and see them. Your production is so good
Sounds fantastic! I saw Doc and Merle Watson live at McCabe's guitar store in Santa Monica in 1973. I sat feet away from the stage, mesmerized by how great he was. In 1976 I ordered a Gallagher G71 Special from Mr. Gallagher himself. I still have the hand-typed letter he sent me regarding his current prices. My Gallagher is truly a magnificent guitar that sounds better than when I got it, and is one of my prized possessions.
Haha..... I still have my typed letter too. They made a lefty Doc Watson model for me in 2002. So, he was still using that typewriter 25 years later. Unfortunately, for me that guitar is way better being a guitar than me being a guitar player.
I should correct myself and say his son Don on that typewriter.
Received my DW Signature in 2005, and a letter from Don. Enjoyed visiting with Don’s mother, Miss Hazel throughout the ordering process.
Well I only visited the States once in 1973 and when I learned Doc Watson was playing in Bryn Mawr when I was in Philadelphia I had to go! It was well worth it of course but the revelation for me was hearing the interchange between Doc and Merle. A life time memory I will treasure.
I've listened to a lot of guitar players in my 80 + years but, I have never heard anyone play better than you. I watch all of and love your videos and tell everyone I know about you and share your videos on fb.
So glad the are keeping up the heritage! They had a great display at Merlefest this year! Loved Doc
My husband and I got to tour the facility where they make these guitars. I am a struggling beginner player but I was amazed at the sound and playability of these guitars. My husband would have bought me one if I really wanted it …. Which I did want one……but felt like it was too much money for a beginner player. Needless to say , I wish I would have let him buy me one !!! Anyway , great playing , great video.
Great Channel and what a picker you are! Bought my Doc Watson from Don in 2003 I believe. Changed out the tuners with Waverly Ivory and have been playing it about every day since then. Just love the guitar and I'll pass it on to my son who is a top notch picker as well. Really enjoy your channel. I've always been a fan of Doc and Merle. You are keeping their sound alive as well... Cheers...
Love to hear you play Deep River Blues, one of Doc's numbers.
I feel like a bit of a dumb ass but I didn't know much about Doc Watson until I heard you (and since then other pro pickers) speak of him and his son in such high regard.
Well since then I've listen several hours of his music and watched some videos - Damn , his picking accuracy and fingers flying up & down the fret board ~ magic.
Thanks for the review and even more for introducing me to another guitar hero 👍
Great review! Just came here to see why my guitarist just dropped a few thousand on a used one. Now I want one.
Beautiful, yet understated and elegant without going over the top!!
Sounds amazing J.P.
Just found your videos, Doc Watson tribute concert and this one, you guys did a excellent job on the tribute concert, Doc would be proud, I been a Doc Watson fan for over 50 years and Merle his son also, two of the best. I bought a Gallagher G50 in 2006 one of the best guitars I have owned, like the one you are playing, they do ring like a bell, Gallagher Guitars 🎸 are some of the best guitars, craftsmanship is excellent, glad I found your videos, you did a excellent job, enjoyed the picking, looking forward to future videos, subscribed.
a friend of mine in Nashville has one and it is the best guitar Ive ever played , I remember it clear as day and that was 20 years ago. It suits your style so well, loud clear lively fantastic tone and just classic ,
can't wait to hear more
Howitzer. Balance, tone, sustain, presence. Wowza.
I loved Doc. When I think of the times I saw him live and think of his genuine warmth and personality I get a little damp in the eyes. What a true original hero to guitar players the world over.
The guitar you have is almost 100% sitka.
Dude...I see a new video from you in my feed and I literally drop everything and click. EVERY-TIME!
I just love the sound of that guitar!!!
Thank you. Brilliant and beautiful all the way!
I own that model myself. Love it and will grow old with it.
Really an amazing sounding guitar the ring of it rich n powerful
Goodness! That first bluegrass run you played brought a smile to my face. Good to see that guitar found a happy home.✌️
Huge fan of your music, guitar playing especially..learned about your stuff from Leo Cameron actually (family friend, incredible musician in his own right) and I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for the music, and from one guitar player to another? Keep the videos coming!
Congrats on your new baby! It's beautiful... 😊🎶
Sounds great.
They give mahogany guitars the love and respect they deserve. Doc and Leo Kottke both are associated with Sitka/Mahogany guitars.
That guitar is amazing!
Beautiful instrument and beautiful playing to say the very least.
Lovely to hear this...I had the strange misfortune of acquiring a G-70 during the family transition, in 1993, and it really wasn't a guitar like what you are playing here. So happy to see that legacy well served...does indeed "ring like a bell!"
My my my. Ear candy and eye candy all in one. Stunning tone.
Great sounding guitars.
That’s awesome sounding guitar
Guitar sounds wonderful and of course great guitar playing . . .
This is a good sounding guitar,I own many guitars and I only want ones that play good and sound great,my collection are the ones that I fall in love with the way they play and sound.
Man you have some damn nice guitars brother.
That Gallagher sure sounds beautiful.
What a beauty gitbox!!
👋😎👍
I'm looking at one of these right now! So beautiful. Also you're playing is fantastic man. Do you give lessons? If not, would you? Haha
Boy...what a great tone.
Doc was my hero and he only lived about 30 minutes away.
What à merveilleux player
Great looking and sounding guitar, Gallagher makes an awesome guitar. I had them spec a
double "OO" guitar for me. Now all I have to do is save a few bucks to pay for it. See Ya.
Browns Ferry to kick it off, just so casual 😂 amazing.
wdyg if you have two gallaghers, the martins decide its time to run away before they die of neglect; on a serious great playing and nice review, so many uber acoustics on my list
Just subscribed
I grew up listening to doc and always thought his guitar sounded the best. I have a d 18 which does well for me. Its a golden era model. Not sure on the year but it gets the point across
Have you ever heard or played the twelve string version? I know they are not a bluegrass instrument, but they are just phenomenal..
Tone was all they were concerned with building this guitar. The way it should be.
Anyone know the Jig (2nd tune) and 3rd slower tune played?
Great guitar, and great player too. Love the tune you play at 7.10. What's its name, please ? Would like to try to learn it...
do you think the new ones are better than the old ones? A side by side comparison would be interesting.....I have a DW signature model circa 2004 signed by Doc himself in the soundhole with a pic of Doc signing it.....
the anounced saying "guitar stuff with john" kills me every time
Not A bad price for the G70
Just found your page. Yea that guitar sounds incredible. I live within an hour of Murphysboro. If you were gonna add a pickup to this guitar, what do you recommend or like?
Sounded a little like Dick Gaughan on that jig. Great job as always.
How does this guitar compare to the Boucher BG-52? There’s a BG-25 at G&G music store near where i live I’m thinking about picking up but i like the doc model Gallagher as well. Thanks for the help.
Gotta have it; I can give it a home here, if you want me to. :)
Wowee what a guitar. That's a belly shaker
You share one with me!!!!!! 😁
Doc reminds me of rev gary davis very economical style of playing
Come on down to Saint John and forget that guitar at my house😏
Is that apogee ensemble the interface your using
JP, what strings do you have on the DW in this video?
A beauty !! Wow….I just ordered a Ruby Red Yamaha FS820…so take that ya rich bas***d…lol….just kidding and enjoy …. up for a trade? A brand new Ruby Red FS820 ?? Straight up, I won’t even ask for any extra money from ya….😜😝😜🎶🎵
I heard from a reputable Luther that the necks on these guitars are not joined to the body correctly. And he removes all the necks and does work on them and reinstalls them in straight.
🤣🤣🤣
How much cost
About $4000 CAD
I wonder if this doc W. guitar will open up more over time, good gosh how ridiculous will this thing be in the 20 yrs!! What kind of strings does gallagher run on their guitars?
Bling free but classy. My kind of instrument.
Lightening fast fingers.
Why would you buy a Martin? I’d buy this guitar in a NY minute over a Martin.
I seriously can’t hear any difference from any other guitar
