  • I answer a viewer question about how to copy trackwork to a new layer while keeping the old layer intact. This is a nice workaround and should work in most applications.

I'll have the other video on how to copy lines, surfaces and objects to a new layer sometime next week. Dave

This is a very good workaround to copy trackworks. Not actually copying an entire layer to a new layer but it works perfectly with trackworks. Indeed, IMO the concept could also be useful to reposition an entire trackwork to a very specific location, either in the current layer or in a new layer. Thanks so much, and looking forward to seeing the surfaces workaround

Hi Elvio. Glad it worked for you. I am having trouble with the surfaces and lines video. Anyrail will sometimes not do the same thing twice on my examples so I am still trying to come up with a good way to copy them to a new layer. I'll figure it out soon. Dave

I simplified the process by "creating" the missing layer copy command using a key object placed at the origin (0,0). On the first layer, make a square surface...in my case I did a 4" by 4" square. Make sure that this key object is present on every layer. Then, you can just turn on the layer information that you want to copy to your new layer, and then press CTRL-A to select everything...CTRL-C to copy. Go to the new empty layer and copy it (mouse click, then CTRL-V). If the image is not automatically lined up with the origin, then just move it using the upper left point of the key object, so that the point is set to (0,0). This method has proven to be quick, and because of the key object at the origin there is no need to align anything...it aligns itself because the key object is (0,0) on every layer.
Thank you for your videos. These have been the catalyst I needed to get going with AnyRail.

Christopher, thanks for the tip. I will try it out and maybe include it in a video when I retun to making more in the series this year. Dave
