    I love Lomography's film offerings, and I love that they seem to do better than any other company right now at understanding the industry can be a partnership and we have to embrace that against the do-it-alone corporate competitive mentality. It's how we will be able to have viable color film in the immediate future and pad against Kodak's ups and downs.

    I love the randomness of Lomo films ... there is a "happy accident" aspect to their films, but it is freeing to not expect the same every time ... similar to the wacky world of instant film, especially Polaroid ... been through every edition and name change!!!

    Aside from those special quirky films, the normal 100/200/400/800 iso color negatives made by lomography actually provide a pretty decent image quality.
    Especially the 800 one, it's like a magic having such fine grain and excellent sharpness on a high iso film.
    Their recipes are top-notch.

    When photography came along it set painting free. No longer did painters have to try and portray reality perfectly. We got the impressionists and all that stuff. If you wanted an accurate likeness you could make a photo. Now digital has set analogue photography free. If you want "perfect" go digital. Analogue is free to be something different. Character over "quality". Kodak is still in the age of perfect, repeatable results from when analogue was not an option but a requirement. The future is something different.

    Maybe Lomo should promote the different “vintages” of film, like wine. The same/similar recipe each year but with subtle changes (often by happy accident). I think it could be a lot of fun and probably a marketer’s dream. If they like/want this idea, I don’t mind taking payment in film. ;-)

    • @Kitsaplorax
      @Kitsaplorax 2 года назад +1

      That's the strategy. They turned toy cameras into a niche product-and then charged accordingly. The fastest way to sell freezers to photographers is to tell them a favored film will now be discontinued. Lomo can speed this up by announcing only 200K rolls will be made of their almost-Fuji 4 layer color film. And then discontinued with a roll countdown clock on the ordering page. This can turn a batch of film into a product like Prada or a designer clothing line that changes every season or year.

    Lomography CN 800 and 400 are just great film stocks, and I use(d) them with 135 and 120 film. As I'm doing mostly 4x5 at the moment, I don't have the opportunity to currently use them, but I'll be back using them the moment I'll pick one of my other cameras. The quality is not on par with Kodak stocks, but they are close enough to just accept the issues that can come up.

    Hi Nico!! I really enjoyed the content of this video, as usual. Please keep this great content coming out, we all enjoy this !!
    If I might add, however, just a personal bit of constructive criticism....the big "X" lights close behind you. It makes this very difficult for me to watch.
    I can see what you're going for, it adds an interesting graphics look to the frame and looks great on the thumbnail....but to me, it is just too bright and I had to watch most of this
    with my eyes averted or closed. I tend to watch RUclips mostly on my large computer monitor, or in the evenings on my 65"- 72" OLED Television screens....and that brightness is just too bright to stare at for long periods.
    Anyway, maybe its just me...but thought I'd offer a suggestion to maybe do a different configuration with not having bright lights directly behind you that occupy such a large part of the screen, or tone the brightness down, etc....it might be difficult on other viewers too.
    Anyway, again, meaning this to be constructive....and I really do enjoy and value your content.
    Have a great day!!

    I think Kodak should stay as the high end film brand, but if they get an "off" roll, they should partner with companies that pride themselves on unexpected variations. Lomo simply can't compete because they are underleveraged. They don't produce themselves but simply outsource to others. Meaning they will never compete on price. Kodak's price hikes will be passed to Lomo as well and with Lomo often being as expensive or sometimes even more expensive than the Kodak and Fuji counterparts I will simply not see an option for them to compete. Expect a Lomo price increase soon as well.

    • @randallstewart175
      @randallstewart175 2 года назад +2

      Like some others, Lomo just scavenges the scraps and cast-offs of other producers. They market, but they do not manufacture, so they will never be a foundation for the future of film photography, thank goodness. Like Cinestill, they give access to film resources not previously, commonly available. Also, like Cinestill, they are wholly dependent on the manufacturing decisions of others, and they can never be low cost or a bargain, because to make any real profit, they have to charge more for their "products" than the company which made them. This only works where they sell something in a market where the manufacturer chooses not to compete. Their curse is that if they develop that market, the manufacturer can then cut them off and take it over at will.

    Think of a fork that has its teeth bent in all directions; just because you're different, doesn't mean you're useful. Sure it's nice to experiment from time to time to have fun and get weird results, but random variations in emulsion and the lack of quality control is not a basis for good professional conduct, not even for "toys". Make different films with different defects but consistent. If you're gonna make a low quality product and sell it at a premium, then that's a scam, not a business. Then again, people are weird as we can clearly see.
