It's been over 8 months since we last saw an Antonov 124 in Calgary, and this visit from Volga-Dnepr definitely drew a crowd!
RA-82078 stopped in Saturday morning to take some oil rigs to Oman via Winnipeg, Gander, and undoubtedly a couple more stops along the way.
So great to see an Antonov in action again! Enjoy this special visitor :)

This exact AN124 is in Winnipeg right now, they are amazing to see.
6:31 is the most incredible shot I think I've seen on any aviation channel. Standing ovation for you, Alex!
Agree 😍😍😍😍
The moon looked amazing with the Antonov!
What a catch! The loading process was neat to watch.
One time I saw a dream lifter taxi right behind one of those antanovs. Made for an amazing photo
Professionell Video! The Antonov is a super Bird! Thanks for the Video!👍❤️🇩🇪
What a shot
The sheer weight carrying ability of those planes is wild! never seen circus rigs loaded onto a plane before very, very cool! Thanks for the footage sir.
So glad I went spotting yesterday, and so glad I went back out that night to film it take off! That thing is LOUD and MASSIVE!!!
Well done Alex. A lot of work went into producing this!
Not only one of the largest but also one of the most impressive aircraft currently flying. Very nice catch, got one of these as well recently :)
Very nice
So beautiful to see the Calgary city in the background on short final, as always, stunning video Alex!
Nice video Alex!
I remember seeing it fly over my old work near YOW. The noise was unreal!
First time I saw one was at Mirabel Aiurport while cycling around. Saw it from a distance and it was isolated. Though it looked like a Bae146 on stereoids :-) (4 engines, high wings). Had no size comparison since it was isolated on field.
In the heydays of Bombardier (RIP), portions of the CRJ200s were made in Belfast and brought to Dorval for assembly by ship. The ship couldn't bring them fast enought, so BBD hired Volga Dnepr (Volga = major river in Russia from the Caspian see to north west of Moscow, Dneper = major river in Ukraine) to bring extra fuselage/cockpits to Dorval. So it was a regular sight near the hangar with the Air Canada sign on it (which was used by BBD at the time to hatch as many CRJs as it could).
It isn't until you see it right next to another plane that its size become really visible.
And once, I saw the crew walking onto the nose to wash the cockpit windshield. That too gave a huge idea of its size.
On 9-11 I biked to Dorval and got to see all the landed planes. None of them were at the terminal, they were all parks next to each other on the field next to de-icing area. There were 2 AN 124s at YUL ! (the next day, police closed off the road to the fire all so couldn't go see it anymore).
After 9-11, the CRJ-200 fell out of favour, Bombardier had near bankruptcy #1, and the focus was on the CRJ 700 which was done at Dorval. I didn't see it myself, but apparently the Antonovs did some visits to Mirabel to deliver parts from Belfast from time to time, but was not a regular thing.
This plane was here today, such a cool plane
I just saw it yesterday in person🤯🤯I can't believe the size of this🤯🤯
Wow amazing
It was in Tampa last week 6/20
We had a 124 here at yeg a couple of weeks ago heading keflavik. Also last week we had the ABC 747 freighter leave here headed for Moscow.
Wow! Other then the AN225, both phenomenal aircraft! Just too bad the takeoff wasn’t a bit earlier…. 👍✌️
One of these was at YEG on Friday June 25 as I departed on AC to YVR
We know these planes are huge, but it's rare that you get close enough to see just how big they are. I walked through the cargo bay of a C-5 Galaxy at the Abbotsford Airshow and it didn't seem possible that something so big could fly.
That thing is massive!!
pretty interesting when the forward gear retracts into the body for cargo loading. great video!
Very cool, never would have guessed you'd ship something like those by air!
Fantastic looking airplane. Loved to watch the landing and takeoff at night. Thanks for one of the best videos I have seen on your channel!
Alex's videos are always top quality
Beautiful video man! Thumbnail is beautiful with the skyline in the background! Liked.
Awesome rare Soviet plane in Toronto!
You stayed there the whole time😳
Nice video! I saw AN-124 on Flightradar24 leaving Toronto Pearson to go there.
Great video 👍
Brilliant catch Alex. It is amazing to see what they can fit inside when carrying cargo. I remember seeing the one in Malta a few years ago and it was very impressive.
Thank you for sharing this with us. Liked 😀 👍
I remember tracking it when it flew into Toronto a few days ago. I had no idea it took off to Calgary
“How many wheels do you want?”
“Yes”
Wow!! Great capture; seeing the cranes really gives a perspective to the weight that aircraft lifts!
So cool!
Well done, sir!
I live in Manchester uk and tracked it over my house using flight radar, it was a clear day and I could see it clearly even tho it was at around 39,000 feet if u remember correctly
Thank you very much for this very fine video! :-)
Really cool. Thanks for sharing!
Amazing channel. Liked and subscribed :)
Great video, beautiful plane! It gives new meaning to the word “heavy”. I’m wondering what they were picking up or dropping off in Winnipeg. Maybe they needed to fill up the gas tanks?
Great catch of this amazing aircraft 👍😍
Great catch 👌
The ill focus at the very end suffers just a bit on the video but is abated by the superior audio capture. ❤✈️
This landed in Thunder Bay, ON carrying parts for Bombardier train plant
I saw it parked in Toronto a few days later.
were you there the whole time the an-124 was at calgary
Great imagery. What was the ultimate destination for the cargo?
This plane came to Newfoundland in St. John’s after
I actually saw this bird parked at Pearson the day it arrived, two days prior to departure. What was she carrying from YYZ?
Is It possible to share the filming location please? I tried to find a good filming spot in YYC but there is always something in the way
Roger Roger what's your Vector Victor.
Now its stuck at Toronto due to ban
Watch it fly over my house at about 2800ft landing at DFW
The one time I’m on vacation….
Why didn't i know about this
yea, it's big. Some facts: 1. Antonov Design Bureau in the ukraine can't build a An-124 planes.
2. Chief designer of An-124 and An-225 was against that the plane was produced again. He wanted to create a new Ruslan.
3. New Ruslan will be produced. Now at the stage of researching the aerodynamics of the model.
Property of Ukraine soon I hope.
