Mike is correct that the Swiss watch industry has adopted a strategy of charging more for each watch and producing fewer units. But let's not confuse raising prices for the same watch to the stratosphere with adding enhancements in haute horology that command the increase in prices. Like all Veblen goods, this strategy will work until it doesn't. There seems to be a growing price gap between collectors buying a tool watch to wear for its intended purpose, and what the Swiss brands think their watches are worth. It will be an interesting dichotomy that will play out in the market the next 5 years; especially, amongst new collectors looking to buy their first luxury watch.
With Cartier aside of their 200 piece limited releases. Most Cartier watch value take a huge dump. It better to buy pre-owned. Not worth paying retail for what they offer. I get Cartier is more about classic design than the movements and durability of those watches. The high end limited mechanical watches. That's pretty safe to get into if you can afford it. You won't lose much and there are many collectors willing to buy.

Side note: I really want to buy the Cartier Santos. I can’t pull the trigger after hearing the polished steel bezel is a scratch magnet. If only Cartier could get Sinn to make a tagetmented steel bezel for Cartier.

Patek needs to stop doing nautilus on straps…save that for the aquanaut man. The Nautilus is incomplete without a bracelet, idc how long they’ve tried to make it a thing.

Watches and Window Lickers... Literally, just about everything on display was behind window displays. This was probably set up as a big FU to the watch fanboys. Talk about lack of respect from brands to people/fans who were not allowed access to try out/look at those 2024 novelties. Many watch RUclipsrs and media/lifestyle journalists couldn't book appointments Patek or Rolex at Watches & Wonders. Invitation only
