    Glad to see some folks living on a modern Jeanneau. We are moving on our boat in the coming weeks (a 2010 Jeanneau)

      You will enjoy the boat. Depending on how you plan to use it some modification will be needed. Boater are always looking for their next boat.

    Have you concidered vacuum packing your cloths ,we vacuum pack all our winter bedding and winter cloths before summer ,obviously keeping one or two warm kit for just in case ..it save use a lot of space where we use the vacuum packed system ,we fit 4 times what we usually can fit in a drawer or cupboard

    I noticed outside Watergate Marina in Clear Lake there's an area thats starting to attract the derelict anchor out boats. 2 years ago There was zero. I was out there last Monday and I counted 10. Clear Lake is going to a be a graveyard of derelict boats.

    • @SailingCAVU

      Are people living on them or did the marina tow out non paying boats?

      @@SailingCAVU There was 2 boats right outside Watergate 2 months ago who got kicked out of Portofino (sp?), One sank is and is still there half submerged. There other is gone. My boat was having work done at True North Marine and we were doing a trial run in Clear Lake and there was a bunch of boats anchored that looked a bit sketchy. The dudes from True North said they were probably evictions also.

      How bad do you have to be to get kicked out of Portafino? I saw those boats when we hauled out at True North back in March.

      We plan to go where the climate suits our cloths. Texas is mostly warm/hot but we do get a chill and a couple days of winter. The purge has begun.

    I hate to say this, but you are confusing a boat with a house. If you were sailing full time you could absolutely downsize. If you are living on a boat and working from it you have different needs and priorities. You could not sail the boat to sea at the moment. Any bad weather/high seas will lead to absolute chaos down below. I think you are asking too much from the boat. I love your videos but I’ve noticed you are stepping slowly away from leaving the dock. I hope I’m wrong. We have the same boat and find it more than adequate. Keep the RUclips’s coming.

    • @SailingCAVU
      @SailingCAVU  Год назад

      This is a chronicle of our journey to downsize. We are showing some of our mistakes but they are being corrected.
      I disagree with you that the 440 is ready to cruise out of the box. This boat was designed for week long cruises and charters. Even there we already upgraded the anchor because I have doubts that the 45lb Delta would hold this boat. Solar, davits, lithium and larger inverter are all upgraded needed to be off grid. With everything we have planned I am becoming concerned that this boat may not meet our needs if we go further than the Caribbean.
      As for the mess I hope to have it all ship shape by Jan 1 with the completion of the electrical upgrade. Thanks for watching. Reach out anytime. And we will be at the BVI Jeanneau rendezvous in March.

      @@SailingCAVU hi Dave. I totally agree with your comments reference out of the box. Indeed we learned from you. The best RUclips on the 440 is you top 10 and bottom 10. So before even ordering we opted out of factory anchor and all the electrics. We went for 900 amp/h batteries and uprated inverter. We ordered the factory davits and are actually surprised at how good they are.
      The point I was making is that work and sailing versus sailing only demands a lot more from the boat.
      We have friends that have sailed around the world in a beneteau 51.1. They now find that too large for the local area. It just proves no boat is perfect. I look forward with great interest as to your opinion on the 440 after you sail to the Caribbean. As I say please keep the RUclipss coming they are fantastic. All the best.

    wow you need to do a garage sale or something.....all that extra weight might slow your boat down....you need a few weeks of food and not a few weeks of wine and clothes. All those dishes are heavy you might need plastic. You might need room for scuba gear. Thank you for sharing...I'm 73 and i don't think i feel like owning a boat to have something to work projects all the time. Boats are not built like toyota's. I have 4 of them 2003 to 2019 and all of them put together i have not spent 1500$ for anything breaking. Can't say that for any sailboat i had.

      We are getting smaller, just takes time. When we leave we will mostly be in one climate and can get rid of colder attire and dress cloths needed for work.

    Why Are You Using The Boats Water Tank While At A Dock??
    Don't you know that all you have to do is add a shore water inlet to your boat?
    Like 100.00, then endless water to your boat, without using its tanks or wearing out the boats fresh water pump!!
    Come on guys....Really?

    • @SailingCAVU
      @SailingCAVU  Год назад

      We opted against having the shore water inlet when we ordered the boat. If you are away from the boat and had a plumbing failure the incoming dock water would be greater than what the bilge could pump out.

      That's why you walk over to the faucet and "turn it off" when you leave the boat.

      Yes until you forget, too busy with your hands full or assume your partner did it. I have received texts from neighbors to check theirs so I know it happens. It is also another thing to unhook before going out. Most of my neighbors with this setup don’t leave the dock often. So there are pros and cons. It’s not the solution for us.
