Yes, he is such a sweet boy. As soon as he realized she was falling, he stopped and stood still while she clung to his neck. It gave her a chance to get both legs down so she could safely drop to her feet. He is such an awesome lesson horse for kids.
Julia way to cowboy up you saved yurself and of course the wonderful Storm for being such an honest horse to stay quiet. Hope you never see Julia in that position again Jenn especially if she had her foot hung up in a stirrup🤤? That old saying, you have to fall off a bunch to learn how to ride is foolish. Every fall can be serious but Julia was so brave to hang on. She was so cute talking about as she walked back but like you said she was thinking about what just happened. Glad she has Storm and the confidence to get back in the saddle. Julia now has a riding story a good one because no one was hurt😉. Susan
Tell me about it. It terrifies me when something happens. Luckily, her foot wasn’t caught up in a stirrup… she hooked her far leg around his neck in an effort to hold on. I was trying to tell her to let her leg swing over because she was losing grip with her arms. I didn’t want her falling sideways. Thankfully, she put both legs down before she fell…so she just dropped to her feet. It couldn’t have been better. Hopefully, no more falls. 😉
You did such a great job staying calm Jenn! Not easy to be the mom watching your child fall. Excellent attitude from Julia too, awesome job to you all.
Thanks. I feel like I didn't do the best job staying calm but I tried. It is so hard not to react when something happens to your kids. We were so proud of her.
I had my first fall today LOL I was trotting a circle but the lesson horse, Eric, bucked me off while trying to canter, I’ve never had experience in canter, only sitting trot 😂 I tried to get back on but I had to get off after because everything went purple and I could hardly hear. We’re having a bit off a giggle because of it now though!
Pretty nerve-racking for a mom to see their daughter fall. Been there, done that! Julia handled it very well. Kate is such a confident rider. Looking forward to seeing her on Duke! Happy Mother's Day, Jenn!
Thanks, and Happy Mother’s Day to you as well. Yes, it is horrible. It is my biggest struggle, because I have pretty bad anxiety and it takes all my effort to remain calm when something happens, but I know I have to because it helps them stay calm. I didn’t do such a great job at it this time, with my “Whoa! Whoa!”, but it was at least after the fall. I was actually just trying to get words out to tell her to unhook her leg because she was losing her grip and sideways. Once she unhooked her leg, it was fine because she could just drop to her feet. It is not easy as a parent though when you are watching that. Kate is definitely a confident rider and stays calm through rears, bucks, spooks, falls, etc. I don’t know how she does it, but I’m glad she’s like that. Duke videos are coming up!
Hey guys. Glad Julia is ok. She saved herself pretty well. At least she wasn’t too nervous after. She did great on storm and Kate did great on Lilly. Can’t wait to see them show. I know they will do great. Will Julia ride Jack again soon? Great video. Keep up the hard work.
Julia won’t ride Jack for a bit, not until Kate gets him back into work after the Winter off. She will definitely be riding him this Summer though, but Stevie will be her main riding horse for lessons and shows until she gets a little stronger in her riding for Jack.
good stuff julia she stuck that well she is becoming stronger and well done to you jenn you kept your cool even tho am sure your hart did a bungie jump lol kerri
Lol… I don’t know how well I kept my cool, but thanks for trying to make me feel better 😉. I am normally good at staying quiet, but this time I did call out. At least I only did it after her fall. I was trying to get over to her to help unhook her leg, and was trying to tell her to get it down because I saw her losing her grip and she was sideways. Unfortunately, words didn’t come out. She figured it out and got herself down safely though, and thank goodness for Laura who was helping her laugh it off so she wouldn’t be scared, while I composed myself. It seemed like slow motion, but in fact, it all happened so quickly. I was so proud that she got back on and finished out her lesson. She is braver than I would have been.
Oh, I’m sorry. Please know, she was ok, just a little scared because it shocked her. She was laughing to help calm herself down, and Laura really helped make her feel better, too. She was a little nervous riding afterwards, but she did it and that made her feel better as well.
That's exactly how I fell today! I lost balance and was sliding off the side and held onto the horses neck then I just fell onto the ground. But I got right back on! Falls are just a part of riding and it will happen to everyone! But you just get back on and try again :-))
Thanks. Definitely not a club I wanted her being a part of, but if she had to fall, that was the way I wanted her doing it… safely down onto her feet. Storm stood still to help her out. Everyone was so great about making her feel good afterwards and helped her laugh it off so she wasn’t scared.
It is so true! When we moved and started riding at our own place, we didn’t realize how much we would miss the atmosphere of riding at a barn and having barn friends. The girls just love the group they ride with because all the girls are so kind, helpful and supportive of each other. It is so nice as a parent to see that. So often in school or wherever, kids can try to tear each other down or ridicule others if they aren’t perfect or make a mistake… I just love that this group of girls get along so well, laugh together, help each other out, and try to build each other up. As soon as Julia fell, they all rallied around her and tried to help her laugh about it so she wasn’t scared. They encouraged her during the rest of the lesson… it was so nice to see ❤️.
My first fall, my horse bolted so I wrapped my arms around his neck which made it worse. I knew I wasn't going to be able to hold on so I fell on purpose and my trainer and mom said he jumped over me to not hit me. One of my contact lenses fell out and my helmet had a huge Crack on the inside of it as a result. I landed on my knee and couldn't ride for a like 2 months. And when I did I rode western and couldn't even post at the trot at all. But in the end I'm fine and am riding better than ever
Currently, Storm is ridden in the lesson right before us so in an effort to give him rest and not overwork him, she rides Sparky on those days. She will definitely still ride him though.
He was really good 😊. She wants to ride him again. We had an unexpected death in the family, so RUclips went by the wayside, but I am catching up on videos and will have them out this week hopefully. One of them is her ride on Denver.
That was such a fun lesson. All first falls should be like hers!
Yes, if only all the falls could be like that.
Glad Julia is ok! 😅 what a lucky girl she is to be learning to ride on Storm… he’s such good boy! (Even when he’s feeling peppy!)

You can tell she was about to cry and was scared. Because of that I started crying. I’m glad she is okay though

I’m so sorry you had such a bad fall. I am so glad you healed and have been able to get back to riding. Thanks for sharing your story with us ❤️.
I remember my first fall off of a horse i only remember it because I told my instructor that it was actually fun. 😅
Lol… well, I’m glad it was fun and not scary. It must be a great and very interesting story!
Why is Julia not riding storm anymore
