Melissa, really admire your moxie in taking on and completing the upholstery job (especially with all the demands of an infant). Beautifully done - from the rich color to the piping. It's all first-class, like it came from the factory. Good to see Ollie looking hale and hearty, which obviously is also a testament to your gifts.
Thank you so much!
@@SailingMelody they said it so well, I can’t say it better. Great job, Melissa. ❤
Incredible Job Melissa! In Truth, Your the reason i decided to follow along with Sailing Melody’s adventures, i saw the Timelapse video a few years back, and I thought “Who is this person who has SUCH a capacity for hardwork and perseverance??” Another great example of your tenacity!
Awwwh thank you! That's got to be the loveliest comment 🥰🥰
You are an absolute wizard, Melissa. Stunning results. You must be so pleased. Between the two of you, there is nothing you can't accomplish ... and accomplish it with style!
Awwhhhhhh thank you 🥰
And I should have added ... and accomplish it while at the same time keeping little Ollie happy and healthy (Jack too, of course).@@SailingMelody
What a tremendous job Mellisa made of those cushions . 👌👏👏👏👏
Thank you! 😊
Melissa, a huge shout out to Women's ingenuity and quality in labor. The cushions look absolutely lovely, the final caption in blue with the whole family comfortably seated around the interior was beyond satisfying, Great work girl, the final result was AWESOME!
A good alternative to sunbrella fabric is Sauleda . Less expensive than Sunbrella. Canvas can be sewn easily with a Singer heavy duty machine at a fraction of the price and weight of a Sailrite. For the buttons, use plastic button formers, not metal as they rust very quickly and stain the fabric. Great job on the upholstery btw - a huge difference 👍.
Wow Melissa!! What a superstar you are. The upholstery looks terrific (as do you) and makes it look so clean and cosy down below on Ocean Melody 👏🎉. It was lovely to see you all together, happy sailing family.❤
You did an absolutely amazing job on those cushions. I would have thought they were commercially made if you hadn't showed us the video of you making them. Well done!
Thank you so much!
I must say I am VERY impressed with the sewing project.. Looks professional to me ... LG Canada
Thank you very much!
I know what perseverance it takes to do a long job. When the goal is near and far when you have to do again some of the work you did and the win when is over. Don't cry, smile, and laugh. You bring down the dragon!!!!
Thanks 😊
Hello Again! Well done Melisa! Just a note regarding sewing machines. I am subscribed to 60 sailing channels and people who can sew like you, seem to be able to find paying work in a lot of marine environments around the world? with Andy's mechanical talent and your craft skills a sewing machine with zig zag and heavy duty ability might be an asset as you set off around the world?🤔🤔
Thank you :)
Your a star Melissa. Looks so good.
Dear Melissa, Andy, and captain Jack,
Willeke and I experienced this episode extra exciting because it is very difficult to make cushions for a sofa the way a professional upholsterer does. We think that Melissa has been more than succeeded in this because the cushions look absolutely beautiful and will be very comfortable to sit on. Melissa deserves all the praise in the world because Willeke isn’t able imitate her as what she said. We also loved to see the whole family.
Looking forward to your next vlog we send you love from the Netherlands
Thank you 🥰🥰🥰
I wish I was in a position to help but sadly I live in Edinburgh, and I am not in a position to help financially, but if moral support was a currency you'd be rich by now! I had a small yacht (Achiles 840) for nine years sailing round the western iles of Scotland. Great Times! Sadly however I now no longer have her, so find myself living the dream through such wonderful people as yourselves. Thank you! Dominic.
Moral support is always needed and welcomed ☺️🙏
Isles. I'm not sure were iles is...?😂
Dear Sailing Melody family, especially Melissa this time.
👍👌👏 Oh WOW, simply fantastic! No wonder that the seats/cushions turned out extremely good with all the effort you put in the impressive upholstery job. The vacuum trick was ingenious. I definitely felt compassion because you had to change the height causing a lot of extra work. The blue fabric would also fit Blue (Steel) Melody very well. 2) You asked for alternatives for the cockpit enclosure and I already suggested lorry tarpaulin material: But how about using used sails? If the fabric needs to be washed, you can make them water resistant/water tight again with a white, milky like rubbery fluid in for instance a bathtub. I nevertheless still hope, that a company will donate/sponsor the special and expensive fabric for biminis and cockpit enclosures.
As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and especially health to all 4 of you.
I have just managed to get a job lot of marine canvas off eBay so some more sewing projects on the way!
WOW Melissa! I've built cushions for our boat and it is very time consuming and detail minded. It really is an art and they look amazing. Don't worry about the mis-measurement. There is no other way to get from one side of a complex project to another without blind corners, and that experience for you is invaluable. Love that you made them extra cushy and comfortable. Most boat cushions are flat and uninviting, but this is your home. Well done! +1 Sailrite for Valentines Day!
🥰 thank you so much 😊
All of your hard work shows beautifully. And it looks like you had fun editing this! Super cute. I have missed you in the videos Melissa - so glad you are back!
Thank you so much!! It was a fun edit!
Yes i miss Her and Capt Jack to.
So impressed with Mellissa’s skill and determination. She and Andy make for a very formidable team.
What a beautiful job on the cushions Melissa! The video of your work is also top notch. "Making a "boat house" a home." Congratulations to you all from a fan in the USA.
Absolutely fantastic! Well done Melissa. You have every right to be proud of yourself.
Thank you ☺️🥰
Yeah! You did an amazing job Melissa! The couch looks beautiful and very comfy.
A young lady of many talents you are Melissa.
haha thank you :)
I had a 35’ sailboat and had all the cushions done , the main saloon and front and rear staterooms it changed the boat tremendously and made the boat look new , But it was a big job and expensive ! Your boat was bigger and it looks fantastic, two👍🏻👍🏻for you , what a job ! God bless you !
Oh wow! Thank you
Melissa, absolutely stunning workmanship, you should be really proud of what you’ve achieved. 👍
Thank you so much!
Great job on the cushions Melissa! They look so good.
On the material, we’ve never managed to find a good cheaper alternative to Sunbrella, and for the Sprayhood/dodger (which you won’t need), went more waterproof with seamark, which we don’t regret. After 6 years and around the world it is still in great condition.
Zip heads : we prefer plastic, which does uv degrade, but no where as quick as metal zip heads corrode. Cover any exposed zips.
Thread: We used UV proof lifetime thread as previously we found after a couple of years in the tropics , polyester thread degraded and needed replacing. The canvas outlasts polyester thread.
We wouldn’t be without our sailrite. It has saved its cost several times over ! Nothing at a sailmakers costs less than $150 in the Caribbean. Recommend the heavy flywheel and get as many accessories as you can! They do come up second hand and lightly used.
I don't know if you purposely chose "epic" themed music playing in the background during your cushion making, but it certainly was fitting because it was Epic!
I think it was more it's only sewing so how can we make it more exciting...epic music lol
OMG! It’s perfect! Your approach to projects are incredible. Juggling your family responsibilities and you try to leave a little time for yourself. I hope you show more of yourself doing these money saving things! We all could use that help. Keep up your amazing work and Jack & Ollie being with you! Jack is a natural to this boating environment 👍💕😎⛵️⚓️
Thank you, Im hoping to be in more episodes soon ☺️
Dear Sailing Melody family (especially Melissa this time):
Before I even watched the video till the end, I like to answer your question about alternatives to expensive cockpit enclosure material. I have to do this in 3 parts because otherwise the text will be too long and utube might block/shadow banning it. Without further ado please kindly allow me recommendations/suggestions. Part 1: Relatively heavy tarpaulin for lorries and trailers (available in 450 grams per m², 600 and 650g/m²). Used or new material in lots of colours can be purchased. You don't need to sew. All you need is a heat gun, a spatula, a spatula nozzle for the heat gun (if I remember correctly) and a roller to put/roll pressure onto the freshly heatglued together material. Of course you also need an inexpensive device to punch holes for eyelets etc. into the tarpaulin. This longlife material is absolutely waterproof and sturdy. I have a custom made green (of course 💚 😁) tarpaulin on my always outside parked car trailer for at least 16 years. It's still okay! I doubled the material where it's bending over the brackets, on edges and where the eyelets are. This helped a lot to achieve longer lifespan of the tarpaulin. The only thing that might not be good for using it as a cockpit enclosure is, that the material smells a bit "rubberish" (at least when it's new).
To be continued = Part 2 will follow. Until then: Best regards, luck and especially health to all of you.
Thank you for the recommendation and your support as always 🥰
@@SailingMelody
You're welcome, it's my pleasure.
Thanks for replying and especially for giving a heart to my comment. As you know, I always and totally appreciate both very much.
2) I already suggested used sails and lorry tarpaulin as alternative materials for your cockpit enclosure. Now: How about using a used tent respectively used tents? Maybe you could even use the zippers? By the way: I would absolutely love to donate my old tent (fabric is in good shape) to you. But unfortunately the shipping costs to Great Britain are ridiculous high (even more after Brexit and Covid happened). As an early retired person and a German living in Germany, money is extremely scarce. Otherwise I would love to help at last, sigh.
3) The next alternative I have in mind is using fabric from professional tents (for pathfinder associations for instance). The fabric is quite sturdy. My former second best friend (who is not longer a real friend), sells and let produce those tents. I will nevertheless ask him if he likes to donate fabric and impregnation fluid or even sponsor one of your videos. But to be honest, I don't have high hopes. He owns a small business and he has suffered a lot for two years because of covid.
Sincerely yours.
Melissa you did an amazing job on those cushions! It's especially impressive considering you were sewing on a lightweight machine. I'm sure you are delighted and extremely satisfied every time you sit on them.
Thank you 😊
Well done Melissa. Ollie looks much better and quite comfortable whilst you work. The cushions fit and look professional. You created another useful space.
Such tenacity and resourcefulness, you make this saloon cabin a real delight now! I bought aSailrite 'clone', identical, Barracuda brand, £50 used from upholsterer. Excellent, though might upgrade motor for more control slow speeds. Another clone, is EZ. I think they're sold in England. I've bought accessories in N of England, can't remember company, but industrial sewing machine specialist. Take a bow, you're a real star. ⭐
That's I'll keep an eye out. 😁
****WELL DONE TOO ALL THE FAMILY...!!*********************
Thank you 😊

Well done Melissa. Superb Job indeed. Now truly, THE WORLD AWAITS. (Beautiful)
Thank you 🥰
Very class the result. Very technic. Bravo Mélissa for your persévérance and motivation.
Wow Melissa that is quite an impressive accomplishment. It looks wonderful and compliments the woodworking that Andy has done. You should be very proud of yourself.
Thank you 🥰
Superb cushions !
Thank you 😊
You should be so proud!! Beautiful. I need to do this for my kitchen. You just gave me the guts to do it!
You can do it!
Don't be too afraid of using a standard sewing machine in canvas. Ours had no trouble sewing Sunbrella roof panels together - often with four layers of fabric - sometimes more. Your machine won't love it, but it should handle it just fine. Canvas isn't nearly as bad as some upholstery fabrics out there.
Good to know!! Thank you 🥰
Well done Melissa !👍👍👍
Thank you 🥰
Absolutely a fabulous upholstery episode Melissa. Yes my mother in law did exactly what you did after immigrating for 40 years here in Canada from the Balkans. I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall while you were working away. The Melody of different swear words in harmony. Great on Ollie to give you the time to work even though the majority was late at night. And yes this was the first video I've seen without Andy. I could amaging the words coming out of your mouth when you first got the cushions to the boat and they didn't fit. Like I said would have been a show to watch if I was a fly on the wall. Over all a Fantastic job something to be very proud of accomplishing . Cheers. Looking forward seeing you all again next video. Maybe not all in one place you maybe on Melody and And and Jonathan on Steel Melody?
Glad you enjoyed it. Maybe we should do a fly on the wall day including profanities 🤣🤣
@@SailingMelody definitely 😆 🤣
Sorry she was Alone on paint job Steel Melody and standing job too
@@Lmatou77vital what do you mean alone?
Very well done Melissa! You showed those cushions "no fear"!
The vacuum trick was genius!
Game changer!!
Bravo!!! That's experienced, and wisdom is to look up the works of others. That's why the people lookup to the experts is to learn...
Melissa, you did an incredible job on those cushions and a superb job balancing caring for Ollie at the same time. Andy, it’s Valentine’s Day. Did you pick up on her hint about the Sail Right machine? If anyone deserves it she does.
He did but more important boat things to pay for at the moment so I wouldn't really let him spend money on one haha 🤣
That is a very professional job well done Melissa Jack is shooting upwards Oliver is doing really well Andy was looking very relaxed 😊😊
Thanks. Jack is going to be very tall we think
a fantastic job Melissa, congratulations 👍👏💪

Melissa your talent is very evident as you demonstrated in fabricating those cushions! YOU DONE GOOD GIRL!!! I am sure that a Sail Rite will be your next gift!!! 🤩🤩
Omgoodness, Melissa, absolutely fudging amazing!🤩🧡🧡🧡🧡
What an utterly fantastic job you've done there Melissa. They're gorgeous! I felt your pain though as I'm currently 4 cushions of 6 in for my saloon. You helped me make my mind up on whether to add buttons to my back rests - well worth the extra work.
Definitely worth it! Buy just don't buy the ones I bought! Ones that you use a running stick round them are better. I need to redo all the buttons as they keep coming apart!
🎉A mammoth job with an awesome outcome! Well done Melissa....😊
Beautiful job!!!!!! That’s got to feel great that it looks so professional at a huge savings!!!!
Thanks so much! 😊
wow......extremely well done!

Melissa…. Beautiful job!!!! Salon looks wonderful!!!😊
Amazing I can sew a patch on my work jeans by hand never could use a sewing machine. But cracking job. You ken what will happen now soon as a sail rips.
Just watch RUclips videos and you can learn to do it!
Your very good at what your doing and very relevant for boaters. Presentation is very good and easy to watch also. No waffle.
Absolutely professional looking and certainly looks like an interior designer job .First Class Melissa! FWCS⛵️⛵️
Mellisa you are so impressive. Well that applies to the whole family. And yes you do deserve a salerite. Absolutely
