Thank you so much, Iv done brakes before but it’s been a while, just saved my daughter about 400.00 I’m guessing and dad looks like a hero
Nice good job
I took my 2013 Lincoln 3.7 V6 MKZ (55k miles) to the dealership for an oil change today. They told me my rear brakes needed to be replaced. Said I had 2mm left before the pads were done n recommended me to have them repaired. Price $389.00. I said nope, called Autozone n got a price on thr pads of $29.99. I'm going to try n do it myself. Thanks
Easy job bro!!!! Get some tools it’s worth it and in long run tools will pay themselves!!!! Let me know how it went and double check ur work
@@RBTheMechanic thank you bro, will do. I have a few tool n sockets etc. But I gotta get the tool that depresses the caliper part. I'll definitely let u know how it goes. Thanks again.
Damn man! Never knew about the maintenance mode! Thank you so much bro. I’m going to do my own brakes now!
Cool glad u found my video
Great video!!! I really appreciate that, helped me out a lot!! Thanks
No problem!
That was really really good information. Thank you so much.
Welcome
Thank you!! This helped immensely!
Welcome
Thanks your video is a life saver 👍🏿
Can I disconnect the electrical connection on the parking brake motor from the caliper and screw in the caliper piston on a 2015 Lincoln MKZ to replace the rear brake pads. thanks
It wouldn’t allow u to push it I got to turn it or put in service mode
Anthony from Arizona. Thank you
U welcome!!!
What kind of lube do you use to put in the pads and guides?
Brake grease on pads silicon on slider pins
Is it a 7mm allen or a 8mm you said both in the video . I'm jus trying to know for sure before I buy the part
Use 8
I have a 2020 Nautilus are the brakes the same? Do you have a video that shows rotors also.
I don’t think they r same and I don’t have video on it
7 mm Allen socket
8 mm Allen socket
Tire lug socket size?
8MM I believe and 21mm but not sure about lug nut size could be 19mm
Thank you so much RB
Welcome!!!!
And to think the dealer at Lincoln charges 500 dollars for this .
Yeah should be quick like honda
I don't know what I did wrong, but I changed my brakes and rotors. Or everything back together, but the brake caliper is loose as heck now. But everything is tight. Plz help!
What u mean caliper is loose ?? U mean it’s not gripping the rotors
What is the spring for and why onlyu on the inside? Both my pads have the spring
Which spring at what time frame u see it in the video
The Allen wrench size u need is 7. He says 8 and 7 in the vid
Ok sorry
Do the rear pistons not need to be rotated as they go in? Another video I found on the MKX says that the pistons on the rear are threaded in (I have a Pontiac with a similar setup). Is this maybe only on the MKZ? Or maybe it's the year, the vide I saw it on was a 2016.
If it’s not electrical then it need to be rotated
I have 2007 mkz with that has a manual emergency brake. I assume I can skip the electronic brake release portion?
Yuppp
U might need to turn and push caliper to compress
@@RBTheMechanic thanks! I'll try it again. Even after removing the caliper screws I couldn't get the calipers off the pads. I wanted to be sure I wasn't doing something wrong. I was trying to save the pads, but I'll just pry them off and replace them. Thanks again for the videos, they are a great help!!
@@joelfox3967 ok update me
What if u used a commpresson tool and the piston retracted but u didnt enter the service mode first?
First I don’t think that’s possable mostlikely it’s broken caliper
@@RBTheMechanic i think the epb motor was only damaged
The piston retracted and spun
@@JohnyVega-k1n I tried compressing piston before it wount go in
I should have said I never would have known about putting the car into service mode, thanks again
Welcome!! If u got electric parking brake yup it need to be put in to the service mode
I appreciate it, brother. Was able to knock out both the front and back in about 1.5 hours thanks to your videos.
Nice job!!!!
I was under the impression that the rear break piston had a special compressor tool that rotated it back flush. I have a 2016 MKZ hybrid
U might have this same systym there’s no rotating the piston u need to command it for service more
Thank You 😊
Welcome!! Glad video was a help!!
One question once completed and you push the break pedal till it’s tight then bleed the air out of the lines right? Then repeat till you have no air coming out just brake fluid. I remember the old cars you did that i didn’t know if it would still apply to the new cars I’m sure it would?
There’s no need to bleed the air once’s ur all completed replacing brakes press the brake several times it will retract the caliper back then u need to put the electric brake on and off and it will retract back As long as u didn’t remove any brake lines that allow air to enter no need to bleed
Well done sir! Not too fast and not too slow and all the tricks and details to boot, thank you! I have my front and rear to do this weekend on my 2016 MKX.
Cool let me know how it goes!! Take ur time and use lube on points
How do you put that mode
I show it in video
Hello again. The only minor surprise issue i ran into was tfst after i put the brakes in service mode, ( which the first time is tricky). The rear pistons had to be screwed in as opposed to compressed. There are two notches on the piston that allows this. Once i did this, everything was smooth, like my wife's 03 Accord 😅😅😊😊
Glad u got it done!!
@@RBTheMechanic me too. And for about 400 bucks less. Thank you so much my friend
Do you know how to put the piston back in the caliper? I pressed the brake after taking the rotor off and the piston popped out, i had not put it in to service mode yet
Well wheel piston pops out u have to replace the caliper
What happens if someone changes the rear brake pads without putting it into maintenance mode? Asking for a friend who now has two warning lights on her dash. 2016 Lincoln MKC
Well if they got electric parking caliper there is no way they can put brake on whtout Maintance mode or manually take part the caliper actuator. But he need to scan the car for codes.
Would have been lost trying to replace brake pads with the electric, first time and it went perfect, you couldnt have explained it any better, I bet a lot of calibers get destroyed by people not knowing what there doing
Yup good job u did well getting this done and best part u did it propperly and good dealer always messes up these
About to do my wife’s brakes on her 2018 MKZ thank you so much.
Welcome
Like an idiot I didn't put it in maintenance mode until after I took old brake pads off. When I did engage it, my piston caliper extended all the way out. Idk what to do
Did the fluid leak out???
U can remove the actuator and then use Allen key in back and turn it manually to extract it back in. But did it leak fluid?
Does it work for the front brakes too? You have to put it in service mode?
Front r more simple no need to do these service mode steps
Thabnk you so much for the video!!! 🤙
What if you forgot to put in maintenance mode and took the brakes apart. Then it gets locked either the piston or caliper. So how do you push it back in?
Well can u out it back togather and do the Maintance mode?
@RB The Mechanic Well, We tried and just couldn't push it back in. It was a little hard! So I end up taking it into a shop! Ty though
Thank you my friend. Very clear concise and to the point video helped me get the brakes situated on my MKZ. Great job!
Nice job!!! I’m glad u did this urself!!! Well done!!
@@RBTheMechanic what year mkz was that?
@@fredbennett3549 2016
@@RBTheMechanic 👍 thanks
Really appreciate you posting this, helping me a bunch 🤙 mahalo
No problem 👍 glad to help
How do you keep the pad spaced properly away from the rotor?
U don’t keep them spaced away they work their way away from rotor as long as they r free hood question my friend !!! Make sure they have tiny bit lube on pads that touch bracket they just move away from rotation of rotors
Is this the same procedure for a hybrid?
Not sure but it might be similar
Thank you! Very clear explanation.
You are welcome!
Thanks for the info
I NEED THE BRAKE COMPRESSION TOOL 😂
Yes u can also push it with hand it was very smooth
Well presented and accurate in the entire process.
Yup thank you
@@RBTheMechanic Most welcome! Keep it coming!!
Even w parking brake mode the piston won't go in any ideas
Did u heat the acuator make that turning noise when u put the systm in service mode
Yes I hear it make the noise
Thanks for getting back to me so quick too
One side worked fine this side killing me
@@jimbobrickyfromtrailer6261 maybe ur caliper is siezed
Thanks a lot!!! You took the fear of doing it away. I’ve done makes for different manufacturers before but was apprehensive about this. Thank you so much for your time
Cool.no problem
Thank You 😊
why didn't I have to go thru that bs on ours?what yr is this one tho?
Yeah maybe u got without it this is 2014
@@RBTheMechanic o yea mine older. 09
@@sim7409 yeah they started putting these now it’s a headache give it few years brake job with new caliper will be $1800
Appreciate the video. Was that allen socket a 7mm or 8mm . Thx.
I don’t remember it but I think it’s 8
@@RBTheMechanic just doing one today! It’s a 7mm
@@adamc1422 oh ok cool let me know how it goes
Fire video 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you bro!! This video will help millions !!!!
Great job informing people on this!
Yup will help lot of people
What kind of compressor is that? I’m having trouble compressing the piston
This is electric brake u need to put the system to service more other wise u will not be able to compress anyways it’s just regular hand help grip compress tool $40 on amazon or store
@@RBTheMechanic it is in service mode exactly like yours but it just wasn’t budging. I just got the exact same tool you have and I’m about to try it now.
@@RBTheMechanic nvm sir I got it to compress✌️thank you
@@RBTheMechanic got everything all done but went to test drive it, it still squeaks even with the new brake pads
@@accoustix2832 what brake pads did u use? If u used wagners they always squeak
Is it pull up or pull down
It’s in video idk it back of my head
Thanks bro....I had to watch it a few times to see what you were doing....push down first and pull up second 👍👍✌️
Thanks brother I was just working on one of these today
Easy !!!
@@RBTheMechanic how will I know if i have rear electrical brake ?
@@aliquran7535 2018 and up are electronic and u can tell if u have the same push button that u see me using inside the car if u got that then u got electric parking brake
😎👍🏾
Why not a C clamp?
Nope clap wount work it need to turn its electrical parking brake caliper u will damage it
@@RBTheMechanic this confuses me because your tool in the video was not twisting the piston while pushing it in. It just went straight back. It does have the grooves where a twist tool should fit so I don't get it l
@@devonswindell9735 no the inside dose that for u all u have to do is push is when u out this in service mode it dose alll that
@@RBTheMechanic thanks, just did it
Very nice video brotha
