This wasn't just a game....this was an ADVENTURE!
GhostandChromis a BIG adventure !
How everything should be my friend!
Still is
The moment Justin, Sue and Feena climb on top of The End of The World and watch a whole new world beneath them... Well, I'm speechless. One day... perhaps one day...
Anh Vu Tran It'll happen bro. Just keep that damn wall on sight and stroll forward.
Many people say JRPGs promote escapism and they only suit teenagers best. But don't we have the right to dream of something greater than the cruel reality? I am now in my unemployment crisis and all I can think about is getting a damn job. I miss the days when I still had the courage to dream of something "crazy", like Justin did when he determined to pass that wall.
Anh Vu Tran i feel ya bro, i feel ya
+Anh Vu Tran Hang in there and good luck, pal. Life is certainly difficult for us all.
Black that scene you mentioned can never be forgotten
Grandia = When games can't get more grand in terms of emotions, gameplay, story, enviroment, love to detail.....this list could be endlessly continued.....

So? ^^ Final Fantasy VIII is pretty great as well, the one is better in some terms, the other in some other, both can outshine each other in certain aspects.
Justforvisit imo ffVIII best jrpg in ps1
Personally I see Grandia as the best RPG of the PS1, when it comes to the actual game. There was never a better version of the ATB-system, a fixed group at all time (yet changing) with very individual roles, multi-component-bosses, etc. Seeing as how it became pretty much forgotten, while the hyping of FFVII gets bloated seemingly with no end, I get sad every time.
Well, ALL opinions on games are subjective, but as someone who only played both FFVII and Grandia for the very first times as an adult recently... my experience was that FFVII became what's probably my favorite game of all time while Grandia was only about average to me.
One of my problems with Grandia is that most of the characters save for Justin, Feena, and maybe Rapp are only ever with the party for fleeting periods and never get any measurable character development. This is opposed to FFVII, where a huge cast of characters bands together long term and EACH one gets their own backstory quest and has a deep past of HEAVY, emotional problems that shape their personalities. Whereas Grandia has... a couple teenagers with a crush on one another?
Another HUGE issue I had was the linearity at the end. In FFVII, you had a GIGANTIC game world to freely explore the further you progressed; in Grandia, you only ever get access to a small handful of towns/dungeons at any given time, and you're funneled into pretty much one claustrophobic dungeon at the end with NOTHING to do but grind and finish the game out. Crippled the sense of freedom and exploration I long for in JRPGs.
This isn't meant to be an inflammatory trashing of Grandia; I just want to offer my own perspective on why FFVII may have garnered so much more fame (which I believe it deserves, actually). I'm actually pretty fond of Grandia overall despite the things I dislike about it, and its battle system is really fantastic indeed.
Grandia 1 is what happens when people want to create rather for creations sake.
I mean it was worked on as the final fantasy 7 killer in the japan for the Saturn and imo has aged like fine wine compared to FF7
This game took me on an adventure, I laughed, I cried, I missed my family and friends.
This brought it all back running around town with my legendary (Wooden sword) and shield (Pot lid), adventures with Sue and fighting to save the world with Liete and Feena.
😭😭😭
Ryudo the Geohound also have Adventure but... to escort Elena of Carbo Village to the Holy Cathedral, fight alongside with Millenia against Darkness Valmar
@@DonkeyMerda lol good tears
Games like Grandia make it worth still having a PlayStation 1 or 2 just like Chrono Trigger makes it worth still having a Super Nintendo. Long live Grandia!
In fact, this game was first released for Sega Saturn. And if you try Grandia II on Dreamcast, you'll feel a real pity for the short lived Dreamcast. With games like Grandia, Sega did have quite a potential.
HIGH 5 i didnt know till now that ending credits theme of grandia 2 was grandia 1's theme, NOW I WANT A PS1 just to play this game
@@beefyjerky1125 There's coming a HD remake to Nintendo Switch soon
john tracy grandia and suikoden definetely RPG hall of fame
The Super Nintendo had a LOT more than just Chrono Trigger bro...
wow, shed a tear listening to this...childhood memories are so precious.
I cry evertim! This game is such a classic. :)
Brian cox classic indeed, still own the game, the casing is a bit of a mess though, xD.
2:15 into the song *sadface*
Txu Zai Same here, I need to bust out the ol PSOne to play through it again soon.
Txu Zai I Remember First time climbing on the mountain and webt to the Top . I felt so alive
Happens to me as well
If you're here in 2022. You're a true Grandia fan
2024 still counts? ;)
@@Nepoxification Yes.
An anime based on the first game would be nice, would love to get some talented people together and perhaps make a fan-anime.
Camaro Cougar so many can make that ! Hope we will se more re-making on rpg classics
the whole theme is just scream in your heart "its time to go adventure!!!!" it just so magical when you hear it
like seriously you can just pop this when you are on morning jog and it feel like you are running toward something amazing
Memories are absolutely killing me :(
+Nathan Moore I understand how you feel =(
It's cruel how all the awesome characteristics of Grandia 1 are burned into you soul forever, isn't it? :,)
@@mikethemilkman5246 We all do understand :(

What an incredible intro to a game really sets the tone for adventure, I never knew why they never made a prequel about how Justin's father found the spirit stone, imagine Justin's father and Java setting forth to discover New Parm, being attacked by Lily the Skull and she joins the party they meet Mr. Gauss in New Parm and establish the adventurers society together
Great idea, they wasted their story telling for grandia 3 instead, which in comparison seemed so dull.
More than a decade later it’s still my number 1 game. Game has a lot of love and soul
who is here after first seeing they are finally giving this gem an HD remaster on PC?
Grandia still best jrpgs off all time, much better and emotional game than Final Fantasy 7.
This game is one of the reasons i became a JRPG nut back in late 90s-early 2000s period.
Carlos Rios same here aning with suikoden
GRANDIA 1 BEST GAME EVER
OHHHHH GRANDIA 1
SuperBibilou yes this game inspired me so much
Me too!
Me three
Yes agree:)
I watched the moon out of my window when I was a child while listening to the Grandia Theme. It's an awesome feeling.
drag0nsku77 epic :D
This game's still very much worth playing in 2021. And if you're into the challenge, there's the Grandia ReDux mod, which is AMAZING.
I loved playing this on ps1 classic
I wanna be reincarnated into this game and experience it's beauty in all of it's glory.
Thanatos The DH ill join !
This is will be my most inspiring song, FOREVER!
Since i was 12 years i carry it in my heart.
Now i have 29, and i'll never forget the boy from Parm named Justin, who anyone believed, and at the end became the most famous adventurer in the world
LONG LIFE GRANDIA!
Just playing Grandia made my whole life worth :')
Probably my favorite main theme song in gaming
Genuinely my favourite Game of all time.
Characters personalities so wonderful.
Gameplay: battle system fun and engaging.
Music epic as we can all hear.
This game and soundtrack put me through so many emotions, and I loved every minute.
This music makes me want to believe in adventure, love, and most important...hope. childhood memories come flooding back.
グランディア、アニメにならないかな。3クールくらいで、ゲームのストーリーに忠実に、余計な変更は加えず、可能ならゲームの声優で。
such an underrated JRPG!! its a top 10 for sure!
petrucci15 definetely ! I started with grandia 2 actually
Beautiful Music & Game. 😍
When hearing this Song, I start searching for the end of the world at the horizon ._.
Andreas Bauer the climbing on the hils memory
there is so much love in this game... god, that is such a great game!!
Dennis Walnuss deep inside my heart this one
Hands Down a Very beautiful Game. Out of the whole series I like this one the most.
TubThwxaig grandia is Top 5 definetely
I literally started tearing up when I heard this towards the end of the game. All the party members you’ve met along the way telling you that you’ve come too far and accomplished too much to give up now. There is a destiny only you must fulfil. So powerful
I'm not gonna lie, this gives me Love Boat and Dynasty vibes, and I never noticed it til now. It's so 70s sounding
Playing the HD Collection on Switch right now and this game alone is definitely worth the 40 euros. So glad two RUclipsrs I watch raved on about this game for years and made me wanna get it.
Amo esse jogo foi meu primeiro Rpg de ps1 nunca vou esquecer até hoje eu tenho os dois DVD piratas kkkkk. Minha infância.
My graduation song!!
Natália Menezes wow thats awesome!
This game lulled my childhood, it's a master piece who give me the desire to travel and discover the world. 20 year later i still listening to his theme.
I know, this is real art. :)
I lost this game when I was younger and just found another cheap copy a few weeks ago. I can't tell you how many emotions I felt while playing this game again.
This is just a beautiful rendition of the game "Grandia" as a whole. The entire game was pleasurable---but the theme song just puts everything back together (especially if you've played the game and beat it.) It's really a wonderful track.
Game Judge James agree :)
*Jogasso cara! Do nada a trilha sonora volta á minha cabeça mesmo que eu tenha jogado esse game há 16 anos atrás.*
Maravilhoso né mano, muitas saudades :'(

Bye Bye Mr Miyaji, thanks for giving us Grandia, many years ago...
Emilien Costa rip
a new version/rework of this game would be so heavy awesome. one of the most underrated tittels and still better than grandia 2 !!!!!!!!!!!
preach! this game was rhe fucking nuts!!
rapp all the way!!!
a full retranslation too.
But keep the part about coffee. It just makes those scenes more hilarious.
when hes polishing his stone parents.. :'( feels man
Rapp all the way for sure. What a story that game had, only chrono trigger comes close
Remaster coming now to switch and PC!
And to think this theme was composed by Noriyuki Iwadare in just 9 hours... after looking at that exact picture on the cover. So suck it Uematsu fans.
He probably watched an episode of The Love Boat that day also.
Giordan Diodato hes a legend
I have always loved his work. He did a wonderful job on the Lunar games, too. I am not sure if he did all of them, though.
@@BloodpactORG Honestly, it has always reminded me more of Dynasty.
U suck it
glad hearing this, justin and gadwin fight is always stuck on my mind
When that solo piece arrives.. the memory, emotions just becomes too much, and before I know it, tears starts rolling down
This theme was my embodiment of hopes and dreams of the future. They're dead and buried now, but this song will always be a part of me. Thank you, Grandia. You were my first true JRPG, and I love you for it.
Iwadare is a fucking genius.
Childhood favourite
Greetings Grandia fans, I have news. If you're interested in hearing from the original voice cast? The voice of FEENA & LILLY (Angela Anderson) is doing a live interview on Twitch March 27th! Full details can be found here (www.reddit.com/r/grandia/comments/t9lzz5/voice_of_feena_lilly_to_do_a_live_interview_on/) and my previous interviews are here on my channel! Much love

My ps1 Version doenst life anymore :(
@@coxonspeed4971 Saaaaame my PS1 dosen't work anymore either 😭 So I'm so excited for this 💖💖
I have it and loving every minute of it. I played both 1 and 2 briefly, but couldn’t get into them at the time. Now, they feel right at home on the Switch when the RPG market is flooded with lackluster and watered down titles. Going back to the olden days of the great RPGs is a breath of fresh air.
Grandia was an excellent experience. It felt like an adventure, I wish I could adventure like that.
Dev a big adventure :)
This theme is AWESOME. I've yet to finish this amazing game...I'm nearly on the end of disc one but the fact that every level takes an hour or two has discouraged me from continuing :O
Armin dont give up . Did you finish it ?

what i would give to be able to listen to the section at 2:16 on a loop for hours AHDHAHDHSHHS
@kraftyr i would say it was about "earning" money back then. the art of making video games of course deserves benefits but today its just about the money not quality. there is no art or quality wich could justify the sellings of todays game idustrie
gitarrojoe you felt story , gameplay and battle system was made by heart back then
One of the best, Actualy, Posibly the best RPG I have ever played with Grandia 2 coming up 2nd, and final fantasy 7 coming up 3rd.
Th music used in Grandia is beautiful. Need to download OST of this game, along with Grandia 2 OST
sindiewen easy to download since its retro . I have grandia and suikoden in my rpg hall of fame :D
i get a warm feeling hearing this. i played this game when i was 16. i loved it.

Cant wait !
@@thatchbro1234 ohhhh yeah !! 3 days !
A great theme for a great game :) Brings back wonderful memories
DancinDane yes indeed!
This game was stood out for its time because it didn’t rely on death or sexuality to make things interesting. 90% of it is just wandering around because Justin wanted to. I wasn’t fan of the grind but once I found out that casting heal on the field menu counted towards leveling, I liked it way more.
Such a magical game. They realy managed to make the game feel like you are going on an epic adventure. Such Nostalgia.
couldnt agree with you more :D
Time portal: What Future would you like to travel Me: Drop me off in 1991
17 yrs ago i did play this game all the nights. it was a masterpiece. playing the japanese games without knowledge of japanese language only read hiragana katakana some kanji.
titan 12 did you Get good in japanese? I had it in scholl for 6 months
Grandia coming to Steam!
Let's hope they don't f*** it up like the annivesary edition, cause this game deserves so much better!
So glad i got this on PSN. :)
pootis spencer glad to hear :)
Always felt like i was about to watch a star wars or indiana jones when i heard this theme proper epic
Such a great tune. This makes me think of adventure.
Troy Wright the whole game is adventurous and the music is Top notch . Glad you liked it :)
just finished this game on pc with psx emulator :D im glad I can still play this epic game even in 2012 !! great game
castelll nice man . :) with better graphics?
@supertriosonicteam You said the right words. This is a RPG game of itself, own caliber. Simply said, is a piece of art.
Definitely a top video game theme!
Magical.
Don’t even know what grandma is but I like the soundtrack it reminds me of older anime soundtracks. Kinda like neon genesis evangelion
You know what it reminds me of, like a sweeping 70s Soap Opera theme, like Dynasty and Love Boat
I actually get goosebumps up my arm from listening to this, brings back so many great, joyful memories. It saddens me to think that there will probably never be another game I enjoy playing as much as Grandia, it was the game of my childhood. I just wish they'd made actual Sequels/Prequels to Grandia, instead of Grandia 2 and 3 (one that actually shows what happened to Justin's dad, and one hundreds of years later when the tales of Grandia are just a legend.)
Owain Dawson yes imagine a sequel og prequel on this . That they made new story every game...
I see what you mean, but Grandia 2 was also phenomenal despite not being related plotwise. It had it's own plot that was very interesting, and with a major twist near the end that was pretty shocking and that I did not see coming. I have not played Grandia 3, but I've heard that it doesn't quite measure up to the previous titles and was a little disappointing.
一瞬クラディウスかと思ったのですが…グランディアか…ゲームはやったことないけれども冒険をテーマとした音楽。因みにクラディウスはプレイしたことがあります。
I lost count of how many times i played this game.
Every few years this song pops into my mind. I literally get teary eyes and feel the urge to go on an Adventure with my boys and girls. I boot it up and have a fantastic time everytime.
Made it to the new world. Had to find this song to add to my playlist since its pretty amazing. Not even done with the game and loving it. The world feels pretty lively ingame.
I will say, leveling all weapon and spell levels seems pretty tedious. But the game is worth it.
Grandia remaster coming now!
I want a Remake though
@@andytk2723
I'd agree but given how lackluster most JRPG remakes are I don't think I'd trust anyone to do it.
They'd probably ruin the art-style or something.
hian pleaaase :)
It's really good btw, I've been playing it for switch. Don't listen to the people who have weak complaints about it, it's magnificent.
woop woop, bought it for a few bucks at a secondhand dealer a few days ago, and DAMN, I like it :D
LeonSylon thats actually worth alot now in europe pal version
HD remake please :D
Grandia 1 & 2 HD for Switch and Steam confirmed!!!!
there's one in development.
William De Silva imagine!
It seems somebody posted that already, but, and I don't lie:
Thanks to Grandia 1... I learned English when I was like 8. Until TODAY, I profit by that. My English grades are the best, and people always ask me if there's an English problem or a word they can't translate. =DD
DunklerZebralord thats so cool!
I just beat the game, and I gotta say, it truly is an unforgettable journey. What a masterpiece!
Mal. Snake glad you liked it !
So glad I picked this game up randomly at a random gamestop at the mall on a whim, didn't hear anything about it. Something about the game when I picked it up and read the back of the box. Sometimes a game just calls out to you and it fits you, like when you pick a pet. '98 was a good year..
Why can't we have incredible games like this instead of online service games? I realize good games are still being developed but the 90s were just pure gold.
best game of my life !!!!
Yunohuro Top 5 here indeed

グランディアは日本の黄金時代の物…。
I could cry of nostalgia its overwhelming 🙂
The 32 bit consoles’ biggest improvement was the music quality
The guy that made Phoenix Wright music (or at least some of it) first made Grandia music let that sink in
omg i remember when i played this for the first time. the story, environments, character interactions, great story....no game like this exist today. you felt so involved and really cared for the characters.. makes me cry... best game ever!!
Angelica Jolin so emotional back then and also now. What they could do with maximised graphics
You can tell that SEGA put everything on this game, try to compete final fantasy of PS, but the tide was already on PS's side...
Grandia definitely has the best soundtrack out of all ps1 games.
UnitElite had to upload it :)
Huh the re- livable child classic at last here's a good question RUclips why couldn't there be a RPG game release with both Grandia, Final Fantasy & Kingdom Hearts world's and characters.??? I'm already coming up with my theories for it's manga!!☺️☺️
So lucky, I got both digital versions of Grandia 1-2 HD Remaster on PC & Switch & now a physical version from Limited Run Games. Man that was quite a adventure.
The best in series Grandia. Too bad sequences could not keep up with the first and original by story, soundtrack, theme, verdict.
Grandia 1 definetely the best. I broke a table when playing Grandia Xtreme last boss.
Epic guitar solo at 3:23 :D love it
NirvanaKid so epic!
Kajiwara-san
this theme alone melts my heart when i remember this... masterpiece of a game.
Danegermouse1992 same
One of my favorites games of all time. Grandia 2 was also great. Too bad they stopped there. I don't count 3 as it was SquareSoft and seems like they just took it to ruin it. The game had no story. Just go to dragon, get power, go to dragon, get power, rinse and repeat without any soul. I couldn't even finish it.
Actually, Grandia 3 still counts. SE merely only published it, but it was still made by the original devs. Grandia Xtreme's also another part of the franchise.
Crescendyr felt grandia 3 and xtreme was a different serie than the Two first
@@Sawngawkuh Not for me it doesn't. There is Grandia I and II. That's it as far as I'm concerned.
@@crescendyr8438 You can personally view it as such based on other factors. Just pointing out that the series didn't exactly change hands regarding the production teams. Game Arts was still working on the games after 2. What's nice is that they actually still hold the license too, hence how they're able to have I and II ported to the Switch.
