Most covers of this song don't seem to understand what it's about. Emphasizing the wrong lyrics or drawing out incorrect parts or singing passionate and high rather than serious and low. This version nails it perfect.
I actually find it so cold.. She doesn't sing it as griefing on House Reyne nor to glorify House Lannister. And the opera starting is totally not a GOT thing
It's performances like this that make me wonder how much modern video game and fantasy television shows have put a desire in young musicians to pursue music as a career.
absolutely, game music in particular has a massive influence on many modern musicians and artists, Skyrim and Final Fantasy have some amazing music, and there's countless more examples, the days of 8bit plunks are long gone. That said, I do use the 8bit version of GoT as my ringtone now!
on a side note: Roanna Fawcett, the pianist of the stunning "Light of the Seven" cover, is among the choir at the start. seems she likes to do music :)
It has certainly instilled the desire in myself to create my own brand of justice in the world. If you want fairness and vengeance, you must pursue it.
this one. you are the first female singer that understand that this song is a sinister warning from the lannister. not mere sad and melancholic song. great intrepretation!

And who are you, the proud Lord said, that I must bow so low? Only a cat of a different coat, that's all the truth I know. In a coat of gold or a coat of red, a lion still has claws, and mine are long, and sharp my Lord, as long and sharp as yours. And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that Lord of Castamere, but now the rains weep o'er his hall, with no one there to hear. Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall, and not a soul to hear.
Up to the last third at least. The last part is a bit too epic for my taste, and doesn't fit the sadness the first part conveys, neither has it's pain in it.
Yeah but with a different singer. Seriously I cant be the only one who feels like this singer ruins an otherwise awesome rendition of this music. Poor choice.
Hey Rains of Castamere fans! Many thanks for all the kind comments. So! I chose Sarah for her low, melancholic, beautiful tone. I'd heard many male renditions, and wanted to hear this from a female perspective, this is a musical interpretation and celebration, also, the events of the Rains of Castamere affect everyone... However, if there is enough interest, I might put out a version with a male voice, to be more specific - my voice! Let me know, Ross.

Can't describe how much i love this version. Sarah's voice just perfectly presented a third person singing about the story after years from the vicissitudes of dynasties.
@ he was thinking about collateral damage, why kill thousands of soldiers (pawns at their Lord's mercy) instead of going for the one's truly in charge and keeping the damage lower. And all at the expense of the Frey's reputation, not his. He was definitely no hero, but he didn't see harm in keeping the death toll lower than it had to be.

I feel like this version encapsules the event of 'Rains of Castamere' perfectly. From Tywin's return to Casterly Rock (the beginning), House Reyne's insubordination/insolence (the vocal), Tywin's march to war against the Reynes (after vocal), then culminates at the siege of Castamere where the underground parts of it was flooded while the whole House of Reyne took refuge (the orchestral). It doesn't fit to Jamie at all. The song is more about Tywin specifically rather than Lannisters in general. Maybe it could be played for Tyrion, because he's somewhat similar to Tywin.
Tywin Lannister, Lord Paramount of the Westerlands and Warden of the West, the Hand of the King and most powerful man in Westeros. Now he was a proper villain. Not these two bit, mustache-twirling, Disney princess villains like Ramsey or Cersei.
+Ataberk Kiykim that's true, but from the perspective of the main protagonists like the Starks and Tyrion, one can consider him an antagonist. He was G doe no doubt.
I wouldn't call Cersei as cliche of a villain as Disney's,Cersei had proper development, she was sympathetic and her madness was slowly developed through multiple seasons, the minute the Green Trial happens it was something that was hinted at for a while. I honestly enjoy the possibilities of Cersei finally taking center stage as a major antagonist
Ramsay is not a mustache-twirling Disney villain. Did Jaffar ever rip out someone's finger and leg joints? Did Hans ever cut someone's dick and balls off? Did Maleficent ever flay someone's skin off? That's what I thought. Ramsay is far too fucking insane and dark for Disney. Now to speak of Cersei, she had proper character development and she slowly became what could be perceived as evil through Robert's negligence (and sometimes outright abuse) and Joffrey's cruelty, in addition to taking some of the worse traits of Tywin.

So I've just started listening to these videos, found them because I was looking for "Abraham's Daughter" from Hunger Games. Absolutely gorgeous rendition of this song, the singer has an amazing voice. You rarely hear a female singer able to hit notes that low and still keep the quality. I also love watching all those talented musicians playing and the emotions on their faces. It makes me miss being in band/orchestra years ago in school (french horn:)). It's hard to describe the feeling of being part of creating something beautiful together like that, something bigger than yourself but you're also a part of it. It didn't always happen, but when everything comes together it's amazing. Looking forward to listening to the rest!
I need a version of this in a continuous, 10-hour loop. And to all the solo singer haters: the song is NOT about conveying "emotion" or "feeling" or any of those insipid charades. The song is about conveying the Lannisters' (and specially Tywin's) menacing power. She nails it. Quietly. No need to roar. Not just yet. You'd be impressed if you read Catelyn Stark's take in the books when she hears "this queer selection of a song for a wedding."
Hey all, so close to the new season wooo! Excited (& nervous) to say I'm doing my first ever q&a soon, please post your questions below! Ross

Your weding will become RED!
You may reconsider
I loved this version more than anyone's
It’s like two or three versions all in one 👍🏾
Came for the memories, got goosebumps by the voice and everything else. Thank you!
The best version of the legendary song I have ever heard!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Fantastic! Breathtaking! But I am a Stark and "winter is coming", no lions would survive to the North.

Excelente, maravillosa versión. Me emociona escuchar esa voz, esos instrumentos, felicitaciones!
You are a bunch of magnificent human beings.
When the soloist Sarah Berresford started her song @ 1:01 I felt goosebumps! OMG!! @2:42 Lidia Alonso’s cello..more gooosebumps! I love, love, love this arrangement. The whole team of talented musicians are superstars in my book! ❤️👏👏👏👏👏
Damn, when she started singing I got shivers all down my spine. Her voice is spot on for this
I love her voice. Kinda eerie.
My goosebumps could grate cheese rn
I adore the music! So great, I am almost crying. This is very strong!
This is amazing.
I love how dramatic and intense it gets.
Great job; I got shivers!

This cover deserves more praise! Its a beauty!
