  • Hey Beautiful people of the world. I finally decided to start my #MicroLoc journey. I have no idea how my low density, fine hair will progress especially considering that I added human hair extensions to the length of my twist. I'm super excited and thank you for joining me on this journey.

    I did this to start my traditional sized locs 2.5 years ago. It works! The key is to get the hair-to-part ratio juuuuuuuuuust right because your hair will swell in the loc but the added hair will not. I can't wait to see how this turns out for you! I love mine.

    • @taylorthomas9022
      @taylorthomas9022 3 года назад +2

      What would be considered a good hair to part ratio? Is it the same as regular braids/twist?? Just making sure the extensions cover your actual hair?

    • @MrsJLathan
      @MrsJLathan 3 года назад +17

      @@taylorthomas9022 You should have half as much extension hair as you do parted hair. Maybe even a little less for these permanent twists to prevent that line of demarcation aka the dirtball line lol. Anything more is gonna be too heavy for the strand and pull it out.

    Beautiful hairstyle, i did this twice on my head and instead of twist I just braided all the way down and put dab of nail glue on tip of braid. I love that this hairstyle does not require buying a lot of extension braiding hair, 1-2 packs is really all you need. For beginners you may need more. ( you can cut longer length braiding hair to make it last)

    So I don’t have Locs but I have low density, fine hair and I do microtwists all the time with my own hair. I don’t know if this info would change because of the extension, but two things that make my hair look fuller are:
    1- freestyle parts
    2- instead of double twisting line a Senegalese twist, just twisting down the length without also twisting the strands between fingers. Sorta like doing a loose twist but more uniform in pressure.

    For the itchy scalp try mixing in a small spray bottle witch hazel, few drops of peppermint, tea tree, lemongrass oils. Spray onto then wipe it off the scalp with an old T-shirt. Do in sections. It refreshes the scalp between washes.

      Vanessa. Did you use human hair extensions for your braid locs? I’d love to see a photo. I am debating getting microlocs, but I know I want more volume and length which will require added hair.

    • @vanessashaw5365
      @vanessashaw5365 3 года назад +3

      @@kristinlovecrna Yes.I used human hair. I ended up taking the first set out. Though they looked good I used a tight spiral curl extension hair thinking the ends would stay curly. They did but so did the entire braid locs and I wasn’t happy. They looked “messy” and when they grew out the roots swelled and were thicker than I anticipated. Plus my grid was sloppy. A friend of mine was flying in from San Francisco to visit her family and she had always done my micro braids in the past so I paid her to redo them and they look fabulous. She didn’t do the grid but more of the “brick method”. This works better for me because my hair is on the thin side and her method eliminates the “scalpy” look and it looks a lot fuller. Hope this helps.

      @@areid___ I tried using a crochet hook in my previous set. I strongly warn against it. When I took my hair down to star over I lost a lot of length. I’ve seen this with many you tubers with different hair types that instant locked or maintained their hair with the small hooks. I just started this morning by adding locs by interlocking them to the ends and it basically knots the extension and my hair together. They’re not slipping when I pull hard so I think I’m on track!!
      Good luck please share your progress ❤️❤️

      Same. I started mine two weeks ago on 4b hair and most of them are small with a couple super minis from around my edges or from when I split some larger ones. What I can't figure out is why my hair is still so flat! My ends are curly and cute, but the rest just falls straight down 🤨 I'm wishing for a good fluff and swelling but I'm still waiting 😮‍💨
      Update 6 days shy of 1 year: I got my fluff and swelling! I think it might actually still be shrinking, but I got some good new growth this first year. Looking forward to year two, more growth and new styling options ✨️

    I just got loc extensions but she started at the root. Meaning she added the hair at the root, braided it down a bit, then twisted it the rest of the way down.
    Do you know if they will turn into locs? Thank you for your video.

    • @areid___
      @areid___  Год назад +2

      Hey Carol, congrats on your loc journey. Theres so many ways to start ones loc journey with extensions. Honestly its all based on your hair and Im assuming she did it in a way to give you the best results in the long run. If the ends are majority of the extension hair it won’t loc but depending on the type of hair it might frizz and as apart your maintenance she would use that frizz to wrap around the twist to appear as a loc over time. Consultation with your loctician is key. As for me, I struggled with the extensions on the end as my hair began to swell and was left with straggly twist on the ends. I ended up taking the majority of it out and going for a shorter look. I suggest watching my 1 year update. Maybe if I used a different hair my experience would have been better. Hope this was helpful. Thanks for sharing and watching💞

    • @areid___
      @areid___  3 года назад +1

      Great question! I used 1 1/2 packs. The amount of hair used will vary on the size of your partings, preferred length and your hairs denisity

    Did you add the extension to the base and braided or to the end of your natural hair.

    • @areid___
      @areid___  Год назад +2

      Hey J R, great questions. As demonstrated, I only added it to the ends. After a year in, I wish I used a thicker hair and went for fullness rather than length or just didn’t add the extensions at all. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    Good evening. I have a question. How did your twist extensions hold out from installation through today?

    • @areid___
      @areid___  3 года назад

      Great question! Honestly, it has been holding up really well. I experienced minimal shedding of the extensions on the very ends. Any twist I currently have without extensions is from me purposely taking it out just because or for experimental purposes.

    I am mixed with white and black and have very soft easy to unravel without the Africans doing my hair. I am having someone who braids to do my hair and cannot afford slippage and unraveling.
