I don't really believe that I have ever heard such an amazing and sublime sound, on violin. Absolutely sublime violin playing. Pianist, is very pure magic, as she always is!!!!!!!!
These are superb performances, both are masters of their instrument. I've known of Argerich's performances but this the first time for Gidon. I remember he won the Tchaikovsky violin competition and he's from Germany. But this the first time I've been enamored by his playing.
Franck Violin Sonata: 00:21 - I. Allegretto ben moderato 06:33 - II. Allegro 14:16 - III. Ben moderato: Recitativo-Fantasia 21:38 - IV. Allegretto poco mosso
To be too critical and finding fault to satisfy your own taste takes the joy out of your music, I just sit back and enjoy their music! They both played beautifully! 💓
Extraordinary violin tone. Sounds like Heifetz. The rubato may not be to everyone's taste but a great work lends itself to multiple interpretations. Check out Chung/Lupu.
The Franck keeps me coming back despite some awkward choices in tempo and rubato at times. This is not meant to sound like steady Oistrakh, this is Kremer and Argerich. To me it is uniquely invigorating! And by the way they performed this work many times together before this recording in concert....so it is not under-rehersed, when your that good you often choose to try spontaneous artistic ideas---which they are both known to do, and do well!
Kremer has certainly given a different approach to violin playing, his own style. A lot of violinists can't say that. He is always compelling, always genuine whether he's your favorite or not. The moving around on stage is ridiculous, though.

My favourite tape: Kremer plays Paganini for violin solo (vinil). But chamber sonatas... I prefer other players. First of all - Oistrakh - teacher of Gidon.
I agree - it isn't bad the ensemble but it seems they are playing two different interpretations of the FRanck and they haven't really agreed how to handle the rubato and tempi - Gidon seeking a far more flexible tempo while Agerich seems to want to keep things a little bit more agitated and therefore she seems to be trying to pull back . Anyway, it sounds simply they did not have enough rehearsal time together - maybe 2 more rehearsals to improve ensemble would have made it stellar. The Franck is a difficult work - the piano part especially.
@@chrissahar2014 I like to hear when two performers play differently. It makes the work more interesting, like a real conversation. Their interpretation isn't uniform but I actually prefer it like that. It makes the moments of pure synchrony even more delicious.
I have to say, I've never gotten Kremer. To me he seems to have an unsteady bow in soft passages, tuning is sometimes a problem and his approach to romantic music often seems graceless to me. Here, the Franck sounds pretty under-rehearsed, particularly the 2nd mvt. I do acknowledge mine may be a minority opinion though...
Where is the time when Russia was so cultivated and full of hope for their future? As a Polish I long for democracy of the old "mother Russia". She could definitely give the world the most of her genius, if only she wouldn't invade other countries and let her own people just live.
I agree, there’s often no musical reason for her to speed up so much when playing alone, then have to slow down again when the violin comes back in. He may be reveling in the music at times and she wants to rush through it, like two totally different interpretations, or like she’s showing off how fast she can play, or like she’s bored otherwise.
This piece resembles an interplay between a man and a woman. The violin part represents the woman's temperament, while the piano represents the man. Argerich plays beautifully, but her sound lacks a masculine quality. In contrast, Gidon's violin sound is quite unpleasant; his tone is scratchy, and his temperament feels very masculine. He plays the lullaby in a way that comes across as unconvincing, making him sound like an amateur. I am surprised by the enthusiastic response from the Russian audience.
meh... Martha needs to remember that the violin is a part of the performance too... so many periods of unnecessary piano dominance and tempo fragmentation across the piece. And speed is not always a characteristic of the performance. Also, the piano is performed at warp speed in some intricate sections, diminishing the audibility and of necessary articulation entirely. Sorry - but as a disciplined student, I notice this.
Actually pretty bad. Piano part in Franck 2nd movement... For a pianist of such calliber it sounds rushed, making it really unprecise and chaotic. Schumann 4th movemenet, the bow technique is outrageously out of control making it slip and sometimes miss, emotions go their way but for a proffesional to struggle with such an elementary issue, is just saddening. I'm just guessing both musicians had their bad day.
Such fantastic musicians. No airs and graces. Just two wonderful players

MERCI MILLES FOIS POUR LE CONCERT,IMMENSE ARTISTES.
Kremer's kind of raspy style is very poignant and beautiful. And I always love listening to Martha Argerich's fine playing. Thank you for posting.

sublimes musiciens quel son de génie Kremer !!!
Kremer's violin sounds like the voice of his soul.

It seems Schnittke is not impressed by their performance. I wonder if you noticed the allusion I'm making in my first sentence.
Pauvre con
Was Schnittke in the audience?
I don(t laike so much the paying of Kremer in Franck's sonata. It should be a bit softened, especially in the two extreme movements.
Great playing, at least partly, but nothing beats Oistrakh and Richter in the Franck sonata. Then comes - Cortot and Thibaud!
Try Ferras as well! I love Oistrakh though.
I like Cortot and Thibaud much more then anybody else. They where so authentic in the french repertoire.
Her tempo was too fast. She always plays the piano in that way even if she has companions playing the same work.
I agree
He was annoyingly slow
