@@jsilva7005Much like flying, boating is risky. With flying, take offs are optional, but landings ain't, and sometimes you have little to no warning, or place to safely put down (I'm a medically retired civilian pilot). Pilots train for those 'oh shit' moments. With boating, same thing, leaving to dock is optional, everything else after that is determined by the skill of the captain, and the whims of mother nature, and of the two, mother nature is the one you have to be most aware of cause she'll drop a hammer on you out of nowhere. A hard squall spins up, and the boats gotta fight to survive.
I live in the Pacific Northwest, I've seen boaters out here thinking Puget sound will be a cake walk, only for the coastguard to get called. We can get some NASTY waves and wind in the sound, especially around the Tacoma Narrows (look up galloping girtie). Don't even get me going about deception pass and a full tidal bore stopping high powered motor yachts in their tracks in the pass as the flow rate exceeds their power forward. Mistakes there, get your boat sunk and the sound is COLD water so can end with people dead from hypothermia. Yet every year, we have some morons who just seem to think they are invincible and don't have to worry about safety etc.

Midnight express have low gunwales in the front and they seem to submarine very frequently.

Everyone should know there are two factors in how a boat rides. It's design (Length plays a huge roll) and the speed of the vessel. If it's long enough it will meet the crest of the next wave before dipping into the trough. And speed..... use your speed/throttle with a little finesse. Knowing when to throttle back and move forward is a factor as well. As far as the bow riders.... well... I guess no brains no headache - #USCG
I am notoriously on the boats side. The Midnight Express was perfect out of the inlet. The Miami Dade FD boat always ride like that. Even on pure glass throttles pegged the ride like that.

I run a 63' Hatteras and ONCE buried my bow on an incoming wave by about 6 feet or so. This was in the 90s. Since that day I have maintained a very healthy respect for Haulover. There have been days I have turned around just east of the bridge. I'm sure my boat can withstand the pounding but why do it.
On the miami dade boat. Im curious that maybe the bow ride low because of extra bracing because of the push points? That could be weighing it down.... Just a thought.

You can’t help wonder why the fire boat is going out the inlet on a non emergency in the first place. ( hey, it’s slow, let’s take the boat for a spin)

The opening and intro edit was a little choppy, and the intro music needs to be less loud. Otherwise, I can't disagree with the calls today.

Coast Guard, Miami Dade Fire and Police boats should get automatic wins. The amount of crap they deal with offsets any water over the bow.

That’s the second time I’ve seen someone exit this inlet in a Midnight Express who understands the point of having one. Use that ridiculous horsepower to keep that goofy looking bow pointed up. People stuff those all the time in smaller seas than that and I’m like how? Why?
If it’s rough outside ..stay inside …That’s why they make tomorrows …

I think you gave the Police boat a win as a public relations gesture. There performance wasn’t at all good.
Grey boat’s design flaws make inlets especially dangerous. No flare, no lift on waves, wide open inside, without adequate scuppers. Inlets one thing open ocean sudden squall miles of short steep waves he’s in real trouble. On the other hand fire boat has good reasons for low freeboard. She’s fully decked and water runs off like a ducks back. Tugs same, low freeboard helps maneuverability towing. Water over the bow no problem, rounded forward deck house, minimum deck area forward, large scuppers drain quickly.
Best skipper out there can’t overcome poor design, those slab side, low bow, open cockpits make no sense.

I find myself watching less and less. First the music is loud and the new format is hard to read.
Fire and Police services should NOT count. They're professionals and should be able to get a win pretty much every time. So - actually 2-1 Hanover - the way it should be.
