Apart from Kimara Lovelace providing the vocals. There are about 5 artists that spearheaded this game's OST: 1. Hiroshi Okubo (made Turn The Page, On Your Way, Spiral Ahead, Pearl Blue Soul, Burnin' Rubber, Movin' In Circles, and Eat 'em Up) 2. Kohta Takahashi (made Naked Glow, Revlimit Funk, the absolute legend Move Me, The Ride, and is credited for Urban Fragments) 3. Tetsukazu Nakanishi, a returning producer from Rage Racer (made Lucid Rhythms and Motor Species) 4. Koji Nakagawa (made Thru and The Objective (my personal fav imho) 5. Asuka Sakai (made Garage Talk, Your Vibe, Silhouette Dance, The Parade, and Epilogue [note that most of these tracks use the Rhodes piano and/or other piano presets]) Quiet Curves was omitted bc I would like to mention that this was a collab between Hiroshi Okubo and Asuka Sakai. But there you have it, the five masterminds that made this legend of an OST. Put some respect on their names!
This was such a cool game, the music and the visual style fit so well together and was fully in sync with the gameplay. I feel like there are only a few games with an aesthetic so fully realized and so well executed. In the intro song there's that moment when it builds up and up, then there's that thick bass riff right as it smash cuts to the car and drops into that groovy beat and it backfires in time. It puts a shiver up my spine it's so slick.
One extra little cool thing about "On your way" is the fact that the main menu animations actually sync with the music. That's pretty insane for a old game like this.
I'm a sucker for racing game soundtracks! I find it fascinating how they changed with the times, how they convey excitement, elegance, adrenaline... just the feeling of racing through sound alone! I also love jungle-y tracks, and these are landing on my playlist instantly! There's a chill aspect to them that reminds me of Persona 5's background music (And I just got to the bit where you mentioned persona when writing this, so I guess I'm not the only one making the connection!) Edit: Ethereal is such a good word to describe the feeling I get when listening to these kinds of songs! Absolutely love it! Thanks for introducing me to this soundtrack, I have a freling I'll be coming back to it quite often!
I think move me is the best because of how its segmented. the first part feels like you're getting ready to race. its that calm before the storm. the second part feels like you're racing passing up rivals 7th....6th....5th...4th..3rd...... 2nd and as the other races are being left in the dust! the third part is when you see that car that's way ahead and you slowly close the gap. 4th intro part is where you are close enough to make visible eye contact. he sees you through his rear view mirror. and you see him through his. this is the part of the race track that is difficult;Yet both racers are saying "This Win is mine" as they take the tightest corners going neck and neck.
The ost is full of good background tracks especially the moods of the songs and the timeless graphics, just really shows how advanced it was at the time.
hey dude found your little channel liked your little thoughts on it, for me some of the most significant racing OSTs will always be Gran Turismo 4 but thats like not so special and MotorStorms Apocalypse the mix of a orchestral score and dubstep is such a unique and blood pumping mix which really incapsulates the early 2010s I can only recommend it to you to take a gander. Also since the algorythm throws many of you smaller Yters into my face my subbox has started to swell with you now in it aswell.
this is probably the best overview of the soundtrack of one of the best racing games in existence. if you like the R4 OST I would recommend the ace combat 3 soundtrack, it has a somewhat similar sound and it was made by most of the same people if i remember right
Early this year I stumbled upon a fan album remixing the game’s soundtrack on Spotify and after a while I got interested in the franchise itself and found out Ridge 4 and ridge 2 for the PSP and I’d happily now call myself a ridge racer fan
It makes me happy to see videos like this. I've been a huge fan of the game and its' soundtrack since it came out, and even now it sees heavy rotation in my playlist. Even in the era that gave us such absolute aural juggernauts as Tekken 3, Ace Combat 3, SF3, or SotN, R4 stands atop the peaks of OST greatness. I honestly cannot think of a single PS1 game whose synergy between game and music was so full and realized.
R4 is a long time favourite game for me. Since you like the vibes from this so much I highly recommend you check out the music from the Ace Combat franchise, also from Namco. If you don't know where to start with those, I'd recommend starting out with Ace Combat 4.
I share your love for Ridge Racer Type 4's music, and as such i can't recommend you enough to play R:Racing Evolution, or at least check out it's OST, wich was made by many of the same composers : ruclips.net/p/PL36Z7eSMgg_b3U9Rebhforp_iFtIUHaIb&si=QIS1MFoBzf__BiAZ

@tombuster of course!! I just love talking so im happy you found something cool out of this!!!
This OST flares up my restless leg syndrome. That's how you know its a banger.
FR WHENEVER I HEAR QUIET CURVES AND STUFF I JUST CANT HELP IT
This made me laugh so hard! The music really does slap!
@@tombuster Thanks!!
I was never a big racing game gamer but my god did R4 hook me with the music and gameplay.
I was never a huge racing person either and I agree 100%!

90s jungle and liquid

I play with reshade to add raytracing, and lossless scaling to triple the framerate
Wonder how Uyama Hiroto would go making an OST for an RRT4 remake; some of his stuff has a kinda-sorta similar aesthetic.
