Thanks for this tying Andy. It fished really well on the Dane! ⭐

Whereabouts on the Dane are you fishing Nick, Somerfoird? I live pretty close but not tried it there yet...

Iain Fraser - A lovely looking shrimp. You could try using pearl mylar for the shell back which is a bit easier to work with. Keep up the good work.

I have also found the appropriate color ostrich herl makes great scud bodies. Easy to tie but one thing to remember with herl is to keep the thread in front of the herl or the herls will separate.

Fantastic video! Pls make a video to show how you use that tool to make the knot! Cheers

For the dubbing, tie a dubbing loop at the back. Put in your "legs" dubbing very, very sparsely, with the fibres all lined up horizontally, across the loop. Then spin it, and spiral-wrap it up the body. Then split the dubbing up the back with a needle, and comb it off to each side, before you run your shellback and wire up. You'll get a ton less dubbing bulk, nice, straight legs, and a thinner overall profile. Then coat the shellback with UV resin, and it'll be bulletproof, and will sink smoothly and quickly. Nice tie.

I second using dubbing loops. I use UV Ice Dub for my scuds and found I can control the dubbing much better when I make a dubbing loop. It also makes a buggier body.

Nice pattern Andy. Just getting back into it after a break. On the lookout for a 10 feet Nymphing rod if you have any suggestions...Great channel..

Hi Mark, really glad you like the video, hopefully you catch a free on it! Drop me a message at andy@abangling.co.uk as I might be able to help with your nymphing rod query....

Looks a great fly again, Andy. I have similar problems with coarse dubbings but have a little pot of water next to me and dip my fingers in to wet them before I pick the dubbing up and it seems to work well (I don't fancy using spit as you never know what is in the dyes/furs etc.). Are you doing a trout fly series too?

Thanks Carl! I ought to just use more dubbing wax, or a dubbing loop as others have pointed out. I've got an idea for a trout series for next season, a challenge - only 6 patterns for the whole season, tied in different sizes, a video each month - what do you think?

@@IBandAndyFishing sounds like a real challenge, you're not joking! I've been trying to trim down my embarrassing amount of flies and boxes for years, but they just keep growing! However, with dries I tend to stick to foam duna, paraduns/klinks, F flies and small Griffith's Gnats, but that would take 4 spaces without even looking at nymphs! Good luck and many thanks to both of you for your great videos.

Just a quick question.. love the channel btw had some really good advice. Why don’t savage gear produce reels I’ve recently brought a savage gear Baitcasting rod and am struggling to find a baitcaster to pair with it..... other company’s Ive noticed do a full range of rods and reels but savage gear don’t seem to do reels???

She lack behaves a lot better if you soak it in warm water for 20 seconds before use 👍
