Do a little rev matching when you down shift and it'll be fine.

..something I learned to do early in my motorcycling life and continue to do.

Bit of back lash in the box or primary chain being used to help braking

Yep sorted now thanks, you are right the primary chain was loose due to the clutch basket bearing being worn and noisy. Cheers 👍

I would check the primary tension, you may need to move the gearbox forwards, and relieve the clutch & LHS main bearing. Best wishes

Possibly clutch not releasing properly or needs adjusting bit tighter on clutch lever. I use castrolite fork oil in clutch case

Thanks turned out to be the clutch bearing 👍

Engine sounds sweet but not a clue what is causing that noise. Seems worse going from 3rd to second. Never had that on my 750 when i had long hair or on my present 850. Will ring a friend who used to service my 750 and get back to you

Just listen to that sweet exhaust note, the only thing that sounds better is an old orange 750 Sport Ducati with Conti's on it.

If I can give a bit of advice back off on the engine braking and adopt a smoother gear change

Thanks but on a old bike with brakes that aren't up to much " and they've all been replaced skimmed and setup" the engine braking is something you learn to relly on, at nearly seventy I've not had a accident yet " touch wood" and I was riding at 12, bsa's Norton's Triumph's etc through 1970s it doesn't ride like my R1 but great fun, we all ride different and this works for me although I will give it a go thanks ride safe 👍
