This is EXACTLY how you learn to play if you are new. You can take lessons and sure that will help, but learn G, C, D and have fun. Buy a capo can then get you to different keys while you learn the proper chords. Nice work Sam!
The chords are all different yes that's a downside but you can look up guitar fingerstyle tabs and they are almost always compatible with the baritone uke
Hey, thanks a lot. There are very few people who show enough love for the Baritone Ukulele. I got mine on Thursday. After I finally figured out how to tune it, it's been a struggle getting the chords to play correctly. Your straight shot video has helped immensely. I hope there's a part 2 to this video, but if not, it was enough to get me started. :D
I'm 50 years old, never played an instrument but like the sound of the baritone compared to ther Ukes. But folks tell me it's not a good starter instrument for beginners and I should choose the soprano, tenor or concert uke. Any thoughts? I planned on learning on line and taking classes.
Great intro. Would be ideal if your vid called out the chords as you played those awesome songs after the tutorial. It's very hard to make out what chords you are playing. Thank you!
Good video, Sam! I play 6 string guitar, and a 4 string bari. What I am wondering is this. If I get a concert uke, will the chords be the same, just making the song be in a different key, because of the different tuning? I want to get a concert soon, but I am 60 and don't really feel like learning a whole new set of chords. Because I am practicing on a 12 string, 6 string, and 4 string, so I have enough to do right now! LOL Thanks. I love seeing a young person jamming on a uke. Lots of fun.
+petmom ful The concert ukulele will be tuned GCEA, but you should recognize the chord "shapes" learned on the baritone. Because of the tuning, the chords will be different, but at least your fingers will have the muscle memory from playing the baritone. You only need to translate the chord name in your head.
I was thinking I wanted a baritone. Ukulele. . But I was sitting here picking my nylon string classical And finally it dawned on me. I have already got. Dgbe nylon strings right here in my hands. If I really wanted to have to take off the e in the a
Quinn Keefer well, the chords are same as the guitar but without the top strings, so I guess that for guitar players is a great way to start with a uke. It's not bad for everyone x)
Going from a Tenor Uke to a Baritone Uke, the 'Fingerings' are different. when beginners make some progress learning to play a ' GCEA' tuned Uke (which most people probably do first) and then start to learn to play the Baritone Uke, some go back to the 'GCEA' and stick with that. Whichever Uke (GCEA or DGBE) you start with, as a beginner, then becomes the one you are more used to. However, the transition is probably easier for Guitar Players to crossover to the Baritone Uke.
I am just over 6ft with large hands. I am unsure whether to get a Tenor or Baritone. I want to get a tenor as the strings are universal with the soprano and concert. With the Baritone, the notes change. Also if I get a Baritone first, it will hard for me to convert to playing a tenor if I wanted to buy one later. What do you advise? Is a tenor too small for me? Also which one is more likely to have a pickup where I can plug in an amp? Can I buy a baritone with strings already set at the universal GCEA? Finally do you have calluses on your left hand finger tips? This scared me off the guitar even though not all guitar players have them.
The baritone uke is tuned the same as the four higher strings on a 6 string guitar. So, the two lower strings are missing. Also, the lowest string, and the highest string on a 6string guitar are the same note. So, with a baritone uke, you're missing only the second note. When you're playing chords on a baritone uke, you're just leaving out the two lower strings. So the chords are much easier to form. And a baritone is quite easy for big finger players. By the way, I'm a drummer. But I love playing a uke for fun. It's amazing how many songs can be played when you master just 12 chords. A lot of songs have only 3 or 4 chords.
interesting points ,if anyone else is searching for how to play the ukulele chords for beginners try *Banfan Ukuleles Unleashed* (do a search on google )? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my mate got amazing results with it.
Thanks for watching, I'm glad the video helped you out. There isn't a part two prepared, but anythings possible! Keep working at it and listening to music, and soon you'll be picking with the best of them!
Thank you so much for your video. You helped me so much! My friend presented me this beautiful instrument for my birthday and I didn't truly know how to play before I watched it...
Sam Wood Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else wants to learn about how to learn to play the ukulele try Nadazma Ultra Uke Helper (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my buddy got cool results with it.
Thank...you made it easy for me to play cords on my Baritone Ukulele. I've watched a lot of videos on this but they all move too fast or I really can't see how they are positioning their fingers on the fret board.
if you’re a guitar player, to help with the chords, the strings are like the 4 bottom strings of a guitar so think about playing guitar chords but only on the 4 lower strings
Wow its a good thing I found this video. Without you Sam I would be lost in a sea of my own sadness due to that fact I hadn't the knowledge to play the baritone uke. I am one satisfied customer.
Hi Sam great video, it helped a lot. But I was really really hoping you could make a quick tutorial video for bad moon rising. That would be really awesome and it would make my week if you would do that for me! I can't find any other baritone ukulele tutorials on it.
Very good introduction video. It encourages newbys to get out there and play some pretty cool songs. I encourage friends who don't play to get a baritone uke because one can be a spastic and still play it.:-)

I didn't know that baritone had different chords place than other uku. Thanks man
My baritone uke just arrived after ordering 4 months ago. Delayed in shipping by the Covid thing. Nearly gave up hope but its here.
I order online from only 2 places, E-Bay or Amazon. Easy to get refunds if the shipper is a toad, and pay only using PayPal.
Just bought myself a well used baritone ukulele today and I'm glad to have run into your video! Thank you!!

This was the most helpful video I've found for a beginner on RUclips, thank you!
I'm loving the baritone uke... a guitar was too big and my little hands were struggling to reach chords.
Very helpful and inspiring for an older gentlemen learning a new hobby. :-) Thanks so much!
My Pleasure Douglas-Charles Beckwith, Happy Strumming!
Keep it up ☺️

It’s not that hard
If you want to play baritone go for it
how do you play Am7 on the baritone? if you made a video about that.. that would help A LOT.
Same as Am, but leave the 3rd string open
Thank you, this was a very helpful video
i have one coming in the mail and i ordered gcea strings but i think i’ll keep the dgbe strings on for a little bit
Mine will be here in a few days. How you doing with yours?
Great job, thanks.
Great intro. Would be ideal if your vid called out the chords as you played those awesome songs after the tutorial. It's very hard to make out what chords you are playing. Thank you!
What song is that I hear starting at 0.29 please ?
Sam, nice videos! Do you still like your Mahalo? I'm in the market for an inexpensive Baritone and am considering the kind you're playing. Thanks,

could you perhaps do a review of this uke for me? i'm looking at the exact same model on musician's friend
I was thinking I wanted a baritone. Ukulele. . But I was sitting here picking my nylon string classical And finally it dawned on me. I have already got. Dgbe nylon strings right here in my hands. If I really wanted to have to take off the e in the a
thats really annoying that the chords are all different
Quinn Keefer yeah but they all seem easier than on a soprano. Very few barred
Quinn Keefer well, the chords are same as the guitar but without the top strings, so I guess that for guitar players is a great way to start with a uke. It's not bad for everyone x)
Not really if you play guitar
g turns into d and a turns into c and c turns into g ??????

I do like it, and its very reasonable in price. I have a few requests to do a review for it, so look for that soon!
Thanks for the video. You made it look easy. Nice playing. I'm now getting a Baratone uke.
Have to agree, crackin voice mate. Nice uke input too. Thanks.
