    Scott, I purchased your Essentials e-book recently, and I'm now mucking about with the fingerpicking sheet. What I really love about your resources - apart from the fact that the e-book for instance is marvellously comprehensive - is the immediate usefulness of them. I have been learning the ukulele for about three years, first with the tenor, now with the baritone (which will definitely be my main instrument). Your resources, both paid and free, give me so many avenues for building my musical understanding and playing ability. Thank you!

    Excellent Scott. I love to fingerpick and that's mainly what I do. This is a great lesson for those who want to expand their horizons on either ukulele, or guitar. Learning to fingerpick even a little is very rewarding. Scott, for those watching this, they can go into "settings" and slow down your lesson which might be of added benefit if they're trying to pick for the first time. Just saying. Thanks Scott!!

    What's the picking pattern you're playing when you add the melodies at the end?

    • @FretboardToolbox
      @FretboardToolbox  4 года назад

      Thanks Steven! I think it's a bit of a freestyle using a few ideas from those 10 patterns. The trick is to experiment and remember that when you're experimenting, every sound, good and bad, is being recorded by your brain. The "bad" sounds are just as important for learning as the "good" sounds. :-)
      Happy playing,
      Scott

    This is great! I have a question about what order to play what string. Can you please clarify what order should the strings be played? For example should pattern 2 go like this: 1-D & 2-G & 3-D & 4-D E? What about what string combos to pinch in pattern 3? Thanks.

    • @FretboardToolbox
      @FretboardToolbox  5 лет назад +3

      A lot depends on what chord you're playing and what kind of sound you want, but I end up pinching the G and E strings a lot. If I'm understanding you correctly, I think your pattern 2 order looks good. You should definitely experiment though, because your brain is recording every sound it likes and which ones it doesn't while you're experimenting. You'll likely hit upon some sounds you really like. :-)
      Happy playing,
      Scott

    Thanks for making the video. I had a question and it'd be great if you can help a newbie like me - How do I know which notes/strings to fingerpick in a given chord? As in how do you choose them? Any rules as such?

    • @FretboardToolbox
      @FretboardToolbox  3 года назад

      Try the patterns in the video, and then play around with them with different songs and then see if you can add little melody lines to then using the notes from the key of the song (the notes in white boxes in Fretboard Toolbox books). I know that’s vague, but you’ll learn the most by experimenting. It’s like when we learned to walk, we just had to fall down a bunch of times to learn what works and what doesn’t. :-)

    I can’t get my picking hand to relax. It’s stiff to the point it hurts after doing the patterns

    • @FretboardToolbox
      @FretboardToolbox  3 года назад

      Hi Janice,
      Learning to relax your hands take a lot of time, so be patient with yourself. You’re using combinations of muscles to pick that are rarely used together in any other scenario. Just work on a few patterns until you can start to feel it, and then take a break. Record how many patterns you could do before it started to feel bad, and then see if you can work up incrementally from there. Learning to play an instrument is a marathon, not a sprint, so don’t feel bad if it takes time to work up to longer practice sessions. :-)
      Please let me posted on your progress!
      Happy playing,
      Scott

    What would you say is a good decent baritone ukulele to start with? I do play the guitar. So I think this would easy for me

    • @FretboardToolbox
      @FretboardToolbox  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Steve,
      It's really fun to go from guitar to baritone uke, and the baritone can really help open up some ideas on the D through high E strings on the guitar.
      I'd ask your question to the outstanding Baritone Ukulele Facebook page that one of my customers runs, if you happen to be on Facebook. They answer questions like yours all the time. They're a really cool, eclectic group of players. If you're interested in that page name, get in touch with me on the "Contact" link of my website and I'll send you the link. www.fretboard-toolbox.com/
      It's a closed group, so I don't want to post the link on here. :-)
      I don't know tons about the various options out there, but I have a Cordova BM 20 that I really like. I've also got a more expensive Pono MB that should be arriving in the next couple of weeks. :-)
