... I agree with the fundamentals of this assessment. I'm near Hill Field in Utah, and while I can't make the comparison between the range of Naval models... I can safely-say it is louder than any fighter, outside of the F22, that has been on base. It possesses an unbearably loud report with extremely sharp "notes" on-top of an incredibly low-rumble that is unmistakable. Deafening... even during vanilla-manuevers in flight-demonstrations.
@@Gsmooth10455 Billie Flynn, JSF test pilot who flew all 3, says they are very maneuverable, but the C carves through the air better in many regimes. The F-35A accelerates faster and pushes through the Mach faster than the other 2. The A and B handle about the same, but the A model can pull 9gs.
There is no doubt. The F-35 IS indeed loud. I work in a lumber yard which is about a mile away from Willow Run airport. Every year for just only 1 weekend, Willow Run has their annual airshow that's called "Thunder Over Michigan." There has been some times a F-35 would perform at Willow Run and when they fly over, it is deafening loud. Of all the different fighter planes I've seen and heard in person perform, I've never heard any other aircraft louder then the F-35.
The Navy version (F-35C) shown in this awesome video looks perfectly proportioned with its large wings and taller tail. The USAF version looks “plucked” to me. I’m trying to imagine the Blue Angels someday flying the F-35C, but as there are no plans to ever have a two-seat version, that probably won’t happen. I suspect their next aircraft will be a future Navy supersonic trainer, perhaps a Navy T-7 variant?
F-35A and F-35B wingspan and wing shapes are intended for transonic acceleration for supersonic release of BVR missiles. F-35A accelerates the fastest of them all. F-35B’s enlarged fuselage behind the cockpit to accommodate the lift fan prevents it from accelerating as fast as the A model. C model has more drag from the large wings, which are meant to enable slow speed behind the boat for carrier recoveries. Blues just converted to Super Hornets, so they’ll fly those for a while. They should have kept A-4F, which is the perfect demo team bird, but parts weren’t being made for them anymore at the time. I grew up seeing the Blues in A-4s and Thunderbirds in F-4Es, then T-38As, then F-16A/B. I remember when the Blues converted to the F/A-18 in the 1980s, saw them at El Toro and Miramar. Great days for air shows back then. Edwards was every year, as were most of the others.
@@LRRPFco52 I first saw the Blues in F-11 Tigers in 1961 and the Thunderbirds in F-100 Super Sabres in 1962. IMO, A-4s were great as aerobatic demonstrators, but since part of the mission of the Blues is to demo advanced tech equipment, the F/A-18 transition made perfect sense. Besides, if the sounds of the aircraft are a part of the show that one really enjoys, the Hornet (and now Super Hornet) are much more thrilling than the A-4.
@@Primus54 F-16s are really hard to hold steady in tight formation for the diamond due to the static stability FLCS. F-100 seemed way more stable, but I’ve only seen video of the F-100 T-Bird demo days. It was exciting when Blues converted to Hornets though. The F-35c is by far the best looking of the family
