The tents look pretty good. I like that you tested a whole bunch of methods. The one paper towel one has a great exaggerated canvas look. My favorite is the overlapping hides look that you did with construction paper.

I've made a bunch of tents and discovered a few things. Brown (variety of shades) construction paper works well for mimicking skins or leathers. That pattern-less rough paper hand towel from public bathrooms is good for canvas, but better is that Dollar Tree "Craft Fabric" that comes in little rolls. The beige stuff is best, but you can use white. Apply using the same method. For a raw canvas look, paint on some coffee or strong tea for weathering. Beware, these kind of tents can warp when drying if the tent supports are at all bendy or flimsy.

Those thin sheets of EVA foam work great as metal sheets or plate armor. You can add a little bit of texture to it by running a hot air blower over it and then pressing it with some sort of a bumpy thing.

Why not use actual scrap cloth? You can buy small squares of it in small bundles at most dollar stores. Drape it over gently PVA'ed frames, then coat them in mod podge. You can even paint them to what you like and maintain the texture. I'm going to try it, myself, actually. Thin bandana material, perhaps. It seems to have a course weave to it.

PVA and water feels like sorcery sometimes. If it was a person I would want to shake it while screaming "Why do you work?!" At the top of my lungs.
