Hi all! Until I get my lighting situation sorted in my studio, the next couple of videos are filmed in my doggie pool on the floor in the corner to prevent glare so you can actually see what I'm doing LOL. Kicking things off with this 20'x20' spin bloom. I'm using a new to me pouring medium recipe too and omitting varnish altogether--check out the recipe below! Colors/Brands/Pouring Medium Recipe:
Colors/Brands/Pouring Medium Recipe:
House Paint-base aka puddle for the substrate:
PPG Multi-Pro in Eggshell.
Pouring Medium aka PM Recipe: mix with all colors EXCEPT the cell activator:
Behr 8300 Untinted Deep Base Paint (Home Depot); and Valspar Ultra Base C Untinted base. 50/50. Mix well. NO varnish added!
Brands/Colors mixed:
Golden Fluid Acrylics in Iridescent Bright Gold, and Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold. This Little Piggy pigments in Waterfall and Lagoon; Da Vinci Fluid Acrylics in Indigo.
Golden, Atelier, and Da Vinci Fluid Acrylics: I put about 2-2 1/2 ounces of the pouring medium into a 3 ounce cup, then squirt in color until I reach my desired shade. Mix well.
For tube paint, I added an ounce of paint (heaping tablespoon) to a 3 ounce cup, then added 2 ounces of pouring medium. If still thick then I'll add a teaspoon of varnish/water to thin. (I make a bottle of "Jo-Wa" by adding 1/3 JoSonja Gloss Varnish and the rest water, and keep it in a squeeze bottle and use as my "water.")
All pigments are 1/8th tsp. pre-disbursed with a small amount of JoSonja Varnish to wet it (stir really well), then add into a 3 oz. cup of Pouring Medium; stir well.
Cell Activator Color:
Australian Floetrol + Amsterdam Lamp Black and Amsterdam Grayish Blue. Approximately 3:1 ratio Floetrol to paint.

So happy your making videos, you had me worried, I was wondering if you missed your kitchen creating spontaneity Glad to have you back, Karen I’m using matte Minwax one coat 3x, same happens to me with the 8300 but is just so clear, thought it will make the PM less slippery or mix with the a semigloss 1/1 and follow your old recipe Thanks Karen this creation is super beautiful 😻 Katherine Miller uses a matte triple thick form Varathane from Home Dopot

Re your studio lighting issues. Many years ago I worked in a pro photo lab with a similar problem...
Maybe try taping transparent black cellophane over your skylight, and painting the walls of your studio in a (neutral) grey? It might absorb some of that harsh white light bouncing around.

Your lighting situation…ever think of how photographers soften their lighting. Maybe hang/drape some kind of material from the ceiling. 🤷♀️ might look a bit cheesy. Just an idea.

Oh my girl you've always impressed me. It's beautiful. Hon will you tell me what you use for your pillow. Everything that I use cracks. And it's not because I leave too much paint on the canvas because girl I spin and spin and spin. I'll spin for 30 min. And it still cracks. I use 20 inch wooden rounds. But ya if you can tell me what pillow you use and if you mix it with anything, please. Thank you sweet lady
