This is not 'anti-Christianity' at all, it's a cult disguised as Christianity, just watch it and if you're religious I think you'd agree with me.

@@shubhamagrawal6359 yeah "Sanatan Dharma" is very interesting especially how close it is to science. Christianity has become a big MLM scheme now recruiting more and more members. I like their concept of God, just experience life. No need to shove God down the throat by a Cult.

Well I would clarify that all of these characteristics are innate to Christianity as a whole, but fundamentalist cults are just more adherent to the texts in a literal sense. The line between "cult" and "church" is extremely narrow. Steven Hassan's BITE model is usually a good tell tale of whether a group crosses that line:
      Behavior Control - Check
      Information Control - Check
      Thought Control - Check
      Emotional Control - Check
Sorry you had to go through that shit man. Been there done that. I didn’t realize I grew up in a Pentecostal cult until I did a sociology presentation in college. When I went up there, I assumed everybody would be familiar with the experiences I was sharing. They were in total shock. I still remember the look on their faces. The exorcisms, people screaming and rolling around on the floor and vomiting because they're full of demons. The hypocrisy, the pastor somehow buying a new car with no job while the church was struggling, my mom calling the Ninja Turtles demons and throwing away all our stuff. My Uncle trashed my cousins t.v. in front of the building while praying out loud because the cartoons were putting demons in his eyes. Years later my uncle got a reputation for exposing himself in front of women including my mom, he was still preaching on the street corner while still doing this. I have countless stories including the youth pastor getting arrested for sex abuse in the church basement, me getting banned from the front because somebody said I was using profanity, meanwhile all the teenagers that were allowed to participate in church activities were all having sex in the church basement and one got pregnant.

Beautifully worded. Pick a week, any week in the bible belt, and this exact sequence of events will be found peppered throughout. Watching the madness of it absolutely tickled me pink when I was growing up. There were these stark moments at church or "revival" when the buffoonery of it all would suddenly strike me, and I'd just cut loose laughing hysterically at these wild adults. My brother would usually catch whatever hysteria had gripped me like it was some kind of contagion, and beatings for our mockery (or "demonic influence") be damned, man, it was worth it for the unadulterated and unrelenting bursts of sheer maniacal joy...
Fk, man, we still gleefully recount the many episodes to each other to this day, each scar a badge of defiance and a memory of all the times we unrelentingly mocked the absolute sht out of the adults. The more unhinged they became, the heavier their blows landed, the harder we laughed. Because we, *just to spite them all,* were free, and they couldn't stop us.

Even if your whole life is non-religious and is only about software develipment, it would be quite common to experience trauma caused by others in which you placed trust. In that sense, it's a very realistic look at some of the issues you may experience just in a computer career. Some software firms suck up your entire life as if they were a religion.

@@michellebennett4015 the "price" is the cost of our sin. Everything that is wrong has a cost, at times it seems like it doesn't have a cost to the person who is sinning, at times it may seem like it only had a cost to others (stealing, talking trask about people behind their backs etc) but the cost of sin is being dead spiritually. The blood of animals never payed the cost, it only hid the sin, it was temporary. The death of Jesus not only erases sin but also gives us power to stop sinning. Think in terms of an addict that wans desperately to live a good and happy life but their adiction is stronger than their power to overcome it, the sacrifice of Jesus gives people the power to overcome these things they are so desperately ashamed of and wanting to overcome. Church should never be about shame and repression, it should always br about freedom from shame and to be the real YOU, the one God so lovingly created for a beautiful and meaningful purpose. Christians are supposed to bring light, freedom and love into the world, it's sad that so many are doing the opposite but it doesn't change the fact that that's what Christians are supposed to do. ✌️

So...I would say, cancer is like a scream in your face "look at your health dude!" . Which is really reasonable....since anyone who has lived long enough will agree that we usually don't look at that unless you get hit really hard. The only reason why we don't all die from cancer is because odds have it that some people get it later and some sooner so the people who get it later die from other things first.

At least I drove myself because when I walked in, I found a large group of people all walking around inside and speaking gibberish. I hadn't known what to expect before I arrived, but once I saw all of that nonsense I turned around and left immediately. I felt so incredibly uncomfortable, and I couldn't get out of there fast enough! @The Bricks & Ivy Archive - Because it's classified as "freedom of religion", and kids have no say where their parents send them to. I was also sent to a similar church camp, though not quite as severe as what Joshua Fluke describes here, but almost all the elements were the same. I was also the "odd one out" who couldn't feel any holy spirit while all the other kids (we were teenagers at the time) were all speaking in tongues and laying on the floor "slain in the spirit". I got sent back to my camp room and told to pray for hours until I "felt something", which I never did. So glad I don't have to believe that nonsense anymore, but this stuff really impacts you for many many years. Not just that one event, but all of it, especially being told you'll burn in hell forever if you don't accept Jesus. My Mom even hung a painting of heaven and hell on my bedroom wall that depicted many people falling into the flames of hell with a few people entering into heaven.

This resonated with me so much. I grew up in both an Assemblies of God church and non denominational Pentecostal church, and went to a private AG Christian school from preschool to senior year. I played piano, sang in the worship team, and taught. I was fully indoctrinated but was also a very inquisitive and thoughtful child. Unfortunately I was also apart of the LGBT community and because of how HORRIBLY I was treated, and because I was taught that I was evil for being that way, I learned to hate myself and hide it. I’d notice when things didn’t add up or inconsistent and would immediately be shut down. The speaking in tongues, crying, screaming, chanting, rolling around on the floor, all of that was normalized. I was so judgemental and had such a god complex, but I was traumatized and lonely. It wasn’t until a couple years ago at 19 that I made the decision to leave. Now that I’m 25 and I’ve been out, I can see just how fucked up my childhood and teenage years really were.

My parents took that as a sign from god that I was Having a spiritual breakthrough, and they took me out for ice cream after. That’s just one memory that I haven’t managed to squash down and repress. That is so hard to imagine, because we looked down at religious square families, and their constraints scared me. My heathen athiest parents who smoked in the house, got drunk, and I mean my dad had scotch every night from the gallon sized handle bottle, and the whole neighborhood would be over on Fridays and Saturdays. They had party after party and I cleaned up on Sundays all the cig butts in glasses smelling like warm scotch. We heard so much fighting between them and one car always roaring out of the driveway that I couldn't sleep well the rest of my life. But we never got religiously indoctrinated as children.
I just would go to church with a neighbor mom of my best friend. I was not Catholic, but the mass was easy to attend, and I snuck in line and got the wafer once. At 14 what happens? I become a born again and after that my brother does, so both my heathen now divorced parents had to endure the bible thumper kids from our twenties saying the xmas tree was a pagan worship idol and them fornicating was unacceptable. One of the smells that triggers my memories, some positive, most scary, is Scotch and cigarettes breath, or just a glass of scotch. I really tried never ever date a smoker because I can't stand the secondhand smoke, its like being trapped and I never dated a christian because there is a thin line of being into Jesus, and I didn't want to be stuck with some guy using the bible against me or being a hypocrite to where that's all can see about him.....funny. life is funny.

Selecting for obedience makes sense if you're in constant danger (military / large predators), or if you're trying to brute force community and cohesion of thought.
But doing it without a clear threat just makes your party members see everything different as threatening.

Thank you for sharing your story. I wasn't raised like this, but as a new parent, I decided to choose a private preschool and then school for my children, which was affiliated with a church that sounds a lot like what you are describing. We did this with the best of intentions for our kids and later learned it was a huge mistake. I remember driving my son home from school one day and for weeks every day he would tell me EVERYTHING possible about all the things he did wrong. Some of it was such silly little ridiculous things like he forgot to throw away some garbage or something else that was super insignificant. I was admittedly irritated after day 30 of all his daily confessions and I told him these things weren't a big deal and he didn't have to tell me all of these little things. He said, "but if I don't tell you all my sins, I won't be allowed in heaven". I was like, WHAT???!!! At the time, I thought he just misunderstood what was taught... He was in first grade. I now look back and think, "wow! I should've asked him more questions". We really had no idea. He later went through years of counseling to heal from the years we had him in this "good Christian School". I am sorry, you had to go through this.

I've been approached only once. I think. By a second cousin I hadn't seen in more than ten years. He did not give the name of the thing. He just wanted to meet for coffee to discuss "a business proposal". I was too busy to go and only later realized why he could not name his business idea on the phone.

A lot of this hit home with me. I was raised in a hard right evangelical type church. I also got kicked out of Sunday school for asking to many questions. I was not even trying to be an issue it just did not make sense to me, turns out I was right but I was only 10 at the time so I did not have the confidence to know that. Well the pastors wife who was teaching the class got mad because she could not answer my really astute questions so took me out of the class gave me a lecture and told my parents. I did not really get in too much trouble from my parents because my mom did not really like the pastors wife. But that memory still sticks with me because it shows that I started to figure it out at an young age. Also the bit about not 'feeling' it, I never faked it, I did not feel anything and that made me start to wonder what was up with this whole religion thing. Great video, I think this will resonate with more people than you think, thanks for sharing.

The consequences of this type of mental abuse they put people through are unfathomable. They pretty much make you feel ashamed and guilty of being a mentally sane person and acting accordingly. Imagine the peer pressure of a large group of people doing that to you and how that can break a young person's mind forever... It's pretty fucked up.

Dude, I turned 12 in 1978 when Jim Jones committed one of the most shocking acts in world history!
Jakie Speirs was shot 5 times and survived. She's retiring soon after serving our country for so long.
I'm shock that young people these days aren't aware of that trajedy.
I think the movie with Boothe Powers was too shocking for the mainstream, but it needs to be shown to everyone.
Ironically, there was sign over Jime Jones' dead body that read, "Those that refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it".

It is so evil to do that to children. To make them live in fear and inadequacy constantly..never being good enough. I would cry and cry at the alter and not really know why I was so "bad"..but I "needed" forgiveness because "we all fall short" and needed to regularly ask for forgiveness (aka feel guilty) for being a natural born sinner with my "evil thoughts". It was total control. I was a child! It baffles me! My parents would make me go, drop me off for youth group and not really know what was happening until that same church crossed the line in their own lives. They quit making me go and I found my way out of church establishment weird manipulation crap way of thinking too. I knew in my heart it all was wrong and I almost lost my faith..but thankfully, I couldnt abandon God and found joy and peace in the Word for myself and now, my own family.

LOL! That awkward "fall" after the pastor told you to fall. I can relate. I'm also a super logical person... and I also got a degree in mechanical engineering. And I also left the field to run my own business. As a kid, I also couldn't BS. I never understood how other people could just do what other people are doing, just because other people are doing it. Now that I look back, children that are extremely curious and don't follow other people unless they understand things first, are best running their own businesses as adults rather than becoming employees. These kinds of things always make me feel like there are a large number of people that are NPC's just following the script they were programmed with by whoever is currently in charge.
