Sorry to Robert the Pollock but this car didn't kill the Holden brand in Australia, Holden was a company that was basically dead and had been on life support for years before this German made and imported "Commodore" arrived, this version was just a stop gap to give the dealers something to sell with a Holden badge on it before the decision was made to axe the company. They weren't a huge seller as most people knew that the writing was on the wall for Holden and didn't want to drive an "orphan" car, those that did buy them were mainly loyalists to the brand who wanted to own "the last one". Great vid as always Bill, Cheers.
Also the Australian govt not wanting to spend money on subsidizing the local Toyota / Ford / GM auto industry is what killed it. All three stopped producing cars in the country after that and since Holden was just imported Opels/Vauxhalls from that point on it was a matter of time before GM gave up altogether.
@@iluvcamaros1912 Not that old chestnut again. So many blame the Government of the day for turning off the life support, but no one ever stops to think why the patient was on life support in the first place. Sales numbers and market share are what did it, and the Oz buying public can blame themselves, along with conditions here that are the opposite of business/employer friendly and (by that time) general disinterest from Detroit. And if sales didn’t kill Holden, Covid would have. GM had no qualms about killing off historical home brands Pontiac & Oldsmobile, how much thought do you think went into axing Holden? GM (and Ford) were looking for an excuse to exit local production and while none of this is to the benefit of Australia, it’s a simply a case of reality in the modern world.
Love the Holden/Oz rant. Colorful but spot on. I hired Holden Commodore version of this with the 4pot turbo-it was actually a great drive. But we Aussies didnt appreciate the change to fwd for an oz icon. With local suspension tuning, itwas excellent on dirt roads but minimal ground clearance, as you said.
GM was unwise to name a car not designed and built in Australia “commodore”. It struck people as, if not dishonest, then phoney. Not that I was worked up, being a Ford driver.
The last proper Holden Commodore was the VF series 2 that was stopped being made in 2017. The Opel (Oh Hell) fwd shitfight should never have worn Commodore badges.
They came from the factory with the chrome trim here in the US too; I had seen car reviewers comment that they thought the chrome strip down the roofline that extends into the taillights was a nice feature of the car. Bill's friend Penelope obviously likes the monochromatic look on her car, as she chose aftermarket black wheels, tinting on the headlights and side marker lights, and to paint the chrome roof trim black too (which personally I do not like).
One of the many reasons why I appreciate Bill so much is the fact that he puts his seatbelt on BEFORE starting the car. He's the only RUclips reviewer I've seen who does this. The correct way.

I've liked these since I first saw it. It belongs in the category of UFT, (urban family transport, an acronym I coined many years ago to try and rescue the wagon against the suv war). We bought one in 2018. Base- model paid 26K NEW List was 36. still have it- zero problems. Been a great second car for towing and hauling items. Drives like a good car instead of a typical SUV Breadtruck ride. GM wanted out of the Opel line as they sold these back then- and we benefited from the 10k incentive from the factory. At 40K I would pick something else at the time. Value for money was a good gamble.

Local Buick dealer had a couple of new ones on the lot back then, he had one hell of a time selling them after months of sitting. Only ever saw one on the street, they may become a collectors item in the future.
Bill, keep doing what you do. You and I are the same vintage (I have an extra year on you, actually) and you are like my internal monologue as you say what I am thinking about 99% of the time. I miss big station wagons, too. Modern cars have some nice features but have no personality or soul and are way too complex for their own good. I wish I could walk into a dealership and find a plain car or truck that doesn't cost the same as a house in a shitty part of Cleveland.
Ya Bill typical super charged gdi little gm motors are good for about 90k before it needs replacement overhaul would be cost prohibitive .... cozy disposable cheap car? Your spot on kiddo!!!
I hear these have way less wind resistance and noise vs say any suv. I'm not a suv guy so I actually kinda like it. Buicks are also very dependable says ratings. Some chrome wheels would jazz it up but some of us don't care really. I just got a used 2018 Lexus es350 had a 2006 Lexus is 250 before that but did consider a Buick since they were highly rated by JD Power and Consumer Reports at least in the past. My #1 important feature is dependability! Mom had a Buick when I was young I'm 50 now and it ran like a scalded hog and was actually quite dependable. I will also say sometimes cars your not crazy about at first grow on you over time. I always thought the SUV was to replace the minivans as they used to be a lot more popular. I also remember my parents having a station wagon when I was real young. Used to love rolling around in the back 😂.
Another funny video, Bill! I still think you should go into stand-up comedy! And I agree with you; I miss what was traditionally the station wagon, such as the Olds Vista Cruiser. I remember being a little girl and our neighbors had a Chevy Kingswood Estate wagon, and I'm old enough to remember the Rambler Cross-Country station wagons and the Chevy Bel-Air wagons.
I drive a 2012 Acura TSX SportWagon and when this Buick came out I was so tempted to trade in my Acura for it. However, the Buick was pricey and I honestly didn't find the front seat all that comfortable. Needless to say I passed on the Buick and still have the TSX.
Use car lot next to me have 3 of those buick wagons...but i'm in Poland. They buy them cheap on copart, import them, fix them, change lights to opel ones, sometimes they even put opel grills and badges on.
In Germany, the vehicle is sold as the Opel Insignia Country Tourer, while in the UK, it is known as the Vauxhall Insignia. In Australia, it is referred to as the Holden Commodore Tourer. The Holden ZB Commodore offers impressive engine options, including a 3.6-liter V6 that delivers 235 kW, as well as a powerful naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 that boasts an astonishing 473.5 kW. The V8 can reach a top speed of 191 mph (308 km/h) and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in just 3.2 seconds! I am considering purchasing a used 2018 Country Tourer equipped with an inline 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine that produces 191 kW (in Europe).
Bill, I totally agree. I guess at least it’s sort of a station wagon? But I’d definitely rather see a big old boat. I once owned a 1987 Chevy Caprice wagon, with an under powered 307cid, with 140 horsepower. I loved that boat.
I remember when cars went from rear wheel drive to front wheel drive and V8 V6 everybody thought it was the end of the world, and it turned out OK. But these aren’t gonna turn out OK like you said a supercharged chainsaw motor for an engine that can’t last very long. Station wagons are awesome.
Engines not lasting long because of being "small/overstressed" is pretty much a wisdom that was outdated after the 1960s. But it has stuck around, like many things do, way after they are obsolete. Its a none issue, 100% guaranteed.
That car would be a badass sleeper if it had a supercharged LS under the hood with an available manual trans. Blackout that Buick emblem on the grill and voila we're in business. Love this channel
We’ve always had 1 wagon in addition to a convertible or sedan. We currently drive a VW golf alltrack. It’s the best wagon we’ve ever owned. But I wouldn’t mind one of these Tour X wagons. I think it’s great looking, it also looks like you could get 5 steamer trunks in the back. If we could find a low mileage example in the near future, we might consider the Buick as our next wagon.
About the leather seats. We have a 2020 sportback Avenir. We also tested the Essence trim level version - and you're right, that leather was about as soft & supple as rawhide dog chews. The Avenir's leather is the polar opposite, which is why we went with it. Talking about cargo room, even the Sportback has more space than most compact SUV's: 31.5 cubic ft behind rear seat, and 60.7 folded down.
@@GoldenCroc Yeah I had never seen that car or knew of it's existence . I think it's neat though he makes a good point about getting all that power out of small displacement engines longevity wise . I have thought the same .
Spot on review! It's a car that is fine but you wish it was more American like a Roadmaster. But looking at what Buick is now you would take this any day and enjoy it.
Beautiful car. Maybe I’m the only one, but I love sedans and wagons (rather than SUVs), but I also like hybrids that get 40mpg like Accord and Camry hybrids. If this wagon had been powered with something like that, I seriously might have bought one for my driveway. But they did a great effort to go as far as they did.

Good old Opel !
Bill has the best reviews ever! Cheers!
Good evening Bill from Ron in a very wet and cold Manchester we are expecting snow. That car looks like a Vauxhall
It IS a Vauxhall. It is also an Opel Insignia in Germany and Australia. A world car if ever there was one.
@@davidgold5961 good old GM
Bill is the kind of guy that knows how to use a turn-signal 👍🏽
I think my wife would love to own something like this. I know I would not have any issues driving this. Great video!!!
What the heck did I just listen to (and enjoy immensely)?! Subscribed :)
I thought I would hate this car until I saw it. It’s amazing looking, I would buy one if they put a 3.0tt in it!
Batting a thousand again, Bill... You're spot on with everything... Love it!!
Discovered your channel yesterday; dying laughing. You remind me of my brother the way you describe this car during the intro. Hilarious
Vauxhall Insignia here in the UK. These are bargains and 50 to 60 mpg with the diesel engines.
Yet another great and fun video by Bill!
I guess "Amazon accessories" is the modern equivalent of "JC Whitney threw up all over it".
I was a Buick guy back in the early 90s, had 2 G body regals, and a sharp little 93 skylark that I put some rims, and a clarion system on 😂
Buick made some dandys back in the 60s. Geez, I could go on & on,you're sounded cool too.
I wasn't aware of these Buick Regal wagons. Bill can make a video about a Hyundai Sonata entertaining.
I would consider buying one of these.
They look so much better in person!
Love the reflection of the Royal Palm in the windshield🌴
I drive a 2012 Acura TSX SportWagon and when this Buick came out I was so tempted to trade in my Acura for it. However, the Buick was pricey and I honestly didn't find the front seat all that comfortable. Needless to say I passed on the Buick and still have the TSX.
@@willydavid 🤣
Use car lot next to me have 3 of those buick wagons...but i'm in Poland. They buy them cheap on copart, import them, fix them, change lights to opel ones, sometimes they even put opel grills and badges on.
my god bill you're such a hoot. you gotta respect a wagon 100%
The best Buick since the Toyota Avalon!
It's so interesting, for me as a European seeing a wagon like this is the most normal thing, but in the US I suppose it's quite the rarity :).
Random note, my dad had a white Vauxhall Insignia 1.4T (UK version of this) back in the day
Absolutely love this. Kudos to GM, Buick and every buyer not to cheese-out and do a suv/mini cute Ute thing instead.
During my search for the perfect VW Alltrack, I considered one of these. I really liked it!
Love Buick's driven them for years. Always had the top trims and so comfortable.
That car would be a badass sleeper if it had a supercharged LS under the hood with an available manual trans. Blackout that Buick emblem on the grill and voila we're in business. Love this channel
Bill your Polish friend was right.
This POS , the Cruize and Captiva killed Holden.
PS love the insults.
I'm with Bill, Nobody really wants to remember 2020.
I honestly dont mind them. Tune, downpipe and a intercooler would help quite a bit though. 300hp wheel and it would be plenty for daily duty
I love my TourX too ❤️
Absolutely beautiful wagon. ..Except the four cylinder..Should have had a V-8 in my opinion..But beautiful none the less.
Now I miss my 1994 Buick Roadmaster estate wagon
We’ve always had 1 wagon in addition to a convertible or sedan. We currently drive a VW golf alltrack. It’s the best wagon we’ve ever owned. But I wouldn’t mind one of these Tour X wagons. I think it’s great looking, it also looks like you could get 5 steamer trunks in the back. If we could find a low mileage example in the near future, we might consider the Buick as our next wagon.
Do Buicks get sold in Germany?
Looks fantastic Bill . . . n more power AWD beauty!
If Bill Burr and Harvey Fierstein were 1 person reviewing cars it would be Bill.
Sold in canada?
About the leather seats. We have a 2020 sportback Avenir. We also tested the Essence trim level version - and you're right, that leather was about as soft & supple as rawhide dog chews. The Avenir's leather is the polar opposite, which is why we went with it. Talking about cargo room, even the Sportback has more space than most compact SUV's: 31.5 cubic ft behind rear seat, and 60.7 folded down.
Slick looking . Euro / Volvo vibe . Posted at 2 minutes in .
Well, its an Opel...
@@GoldenCroc Yeah I had never seen that car or knew of it's existence . I think it's neat though he makes a good point about getting all that power out of small displacement engines longevity wise . I have thought the same .
What's that when better cars are built Buick will build them ??? Thanks Bill !! No one does it better than You !!! I miss my 1969 Buick Sport Wagon
Spot on review! It's a car that is fine but you wish it was more American like a Roadmaster. But looking at what Buick is now you would take this any day and enjoy it.
Very nice wagon , I bet it’s loaded an rides like a caddie Bill , keep um coming , keep um coming , Bill
Supercharged chainsaw! I'll be using that line soon.
Beautiful car. Maybe I’m the only one, but I love sedans and wagons (rather than SUVs), but I also like hybrids that get 40mpg like Accord and
Camry hybrids. If this wagon had been powered with something like that, I seriously might have bought one for my driveway. But they did a great effort to go as far as they did.
