  • When I was an undergraduate, I struggled with this concept. I finally was able to understand it and I want to show you how I recognize this phenomena. There is plenty more to this idea and I will have a full video coming later to explain the mathematics. Please consider subscribing the channel if you like this content. There is plenty more on the way.

PhysicsOH is a stream on the Twitch.tv platform dedicated to helping students who now find themselves distance learning. Many students may find their professors less responsive or unavailable and struggle without the face to face interactions that we get by physically taking a class. At the stream, I aim to help students get through complicated topics that they may be struggling with. Feel free to stop by and ask a question or just hangout to help other students as they work through these issues. See You there!

Iask < if it's a conducting sperical shell having some charge q° inside cavity then how come the electric field is still zero cause it will induce a -q° on the inside surface of shell and +q° on outside
But there would be still electric field lines b/w the center q° and -q° surface would it? >

    Sir I have a question..
So there was a uniform electric field(a) in x direction, and then I put a metal sphere. Since the assumption was electro-static, electrons in metal will move and that will produce electric field(b) -> so two field electric field(a) + electric field(b) will sum up and the resulting electric field becomes perpendicular to the surface of a metal sphere with net field 0 inside the metal right? Thankyou!

What will happen in case of charged sphere which have positive charge on its outer surface

What if the external applied electric field and induced electric field are not equal in magnitude than ???????

There are free electrons in a conductor so they will move accordingly to cancel out the external electric field same like a force in a rope or in a rod forces inside are reactive to the external force so the net force in the rope = 0
