Can't wait for Part Deux! I think I now like both Sternbach's original concept and official (final) design of the Prometheus, which is rare for me to like both versions of a ship hahaha
Just watched all the Con videos.....Looks like y'all are having a great time. loved the Prometheus video, it too is one of my all time Trek ships! Keep up the great work!
I love the fact that the newer classes (Sov, Akira, Steamrunner and Prometheus) returned to that blue circular deflector dish look (yellow in the sovvy's case). I really prefer the 360degree look over the galaxy and intrepid' oval/eye-shape look...
If I remember correctly the Sovereign Class was 685m, not 625m. I know she's longer than the Galaxy at 642m. Have fun at the rest of the con in Denver, look forward to the next Captain's Log.
Another excellent run through with Capt. Foley, and Cmdr. Cockings (or is it Coggins? I can't quite tell which because they sound quite similar). I love these videos, you guys do such a great job profiling these ships, and providing us with their back-stories. Its also really awesome that you've been able to have some of the designers on. Love your channel, you guys make great content! Thanks for putting all this together!
My favorite ship as well.Add a Phase Cloaking Device (ST-TNG-The Peguses)and this would be a perfect ship for the secretive Section 31,Starfleet's version of the MI-5,KGB or CIA.To be honest I hope the rumors are true about CBS's new Star Trek series having different crews during different time periods each season,,I would love for one of those to be about a Section 31 crew. And IMO the perfect actor to play the role of a section 31 Captain would be Ashraf Barhom.(Jamal Al-Fayeed from Tyrant)
In this time line - given the losses of the Borg and Dominion wars it is no surprise that the Federation would start upgrading the offensive capabilities of their ships.
Notice how you can see the ships firing phasers at warp. I assume they eventually figured out how to extend the warp field around the phaser beam to enable this to happen?
registry difference: I always figured that the MVAM caused some navigational hiccups* during development, which they solved by giving two of the three components unique registry-numbers for post-separation use. (if true, Prometheus would be unique in having a non-sequential range of associated registry numbers, as the production vessels would receive all three at the same time) *EG: NCC 1701 E is called for back-up but cannot tell the (already separated) components apart and averages their telemetry into a single vessel to potentially dangerous results
When a newly-commissioned starship inherits an existing name, it also inherits the registry number associated with the ship that previously carried that name. (For example, when the Enterprise-A, NCC-1701, is de-commissioned, its replacement, the Enterprise-B, uses the same registry number as its predecessor.) However, there are some exceptions to this protocol, usually when the newly commissioned starship is of an experimental design, or because of a non-canonical reason (designer's preference or something similar).
Only certain ship names carrier over the registry number. A ship has to stand out to have its registry number be continued. Standard practice when reusing a ship name is to give it a new registry number.
I was really neutral with this design when it first came out because it's so pointed that it's almost not a ST Fed ship, although the multi vector attack feature was a really cool feature (and sensible, separating ships just seems like too potentially great an advantage to not take advantage of if they have to make a more combat orientated vessel.), but over time it's kind of grown on me a lot. The engines and wings attached to a flat, pointy centrifuge look that it roughly is when complete is such a traditional space-ship design overall, like it came out of a classic space shooter video game like Galaga or something, is kind of part of its charm to me.
9:20 You don’t want to initiate First Contact with a species with a warship.* I also believe that as time progresses Starfleet crews will be more required for the ship’s maintenance than anything else. 13:10 OR it was used to act as a cover for the new threat of the Dominion due to its HIGHLY classified nature. That is my favourite theory, at least. *Let's draw a comparison with RUclips's automated copyright system and a video being a new species and having it consider whether or not it falls under fair use (whether its intent is hostile or not).
Regarding top speed, after its pre-Nemesis retrofit, wasn't the Enterprise E capable of Warp 9.995? This was the latest data posted in the Starship Spotter, which pushes it above the Prometheus in speed, unless that class received similar upgrades.
In STO you can have the Prometheus class without multi-vector system. Maybe, just in theory it is more easy and less costly to build version that implement all those high tech in to single solid hull?
Well I dont think this ship was designed to be the most common form of ship to begin with just like the Sovereign class I would assume. These classes are like the cream of the crop classes of their time and type so they would be special purpose deployments.
I got refitted for nemesis to bump up its speed add a duel aft torpedo launcher and 4 additional phaser strips/arrays to the already standard 12 p.s. I have noticed standard federation cruisers have 12 phaser array/strips
Middle section as A compound Corvett would be cool for flex opt. In , for non kit bash rapid supplement to war as part of flotila forming, for prodigy time, for free idea enjoy i Hope anomuse inclushion as described for applyment.....
Would be great if you guys and Rick could build Star Trek ships in the game Space Engineers! I bet they would be totally awesome *dreams*. Ever seen the game?
well mainly since this ships Multi Vector Assault mode was tested by the romulans who actualy stole the ship itself before a smal taskforce showed up and prevented this ship from falling into enemy hands
registry numbers I think are hulls built also there are ships that are like the enterprise that keep there numbers so there probably a constellation with ncc 1017 probably destroyed and the next ship with the name keeped the number
Just because the ship is a prototype/experimental does not mean any fighters it have would be too. That's like saying because it's a new design everything about it is new and not one aspect of it uses technology or equipment current in use by Starfleet or other vessels.
18 independently operating phaser strips? So it can hit 18 different targets at once, presuming it were surrounded? Being only a young, proto-Trek Nerd, I have to ask, what's the difference between "18 Phaser STRIPS" and the "10 Phaser BANKS" on a Galaxy class ship? The number of targets that can be engaged vs...the power or duration of the phaser blasts themselves?
HotaruZoku I can say that phaser banks and phaser strips are interchangeable in the Next Generation era. As far as firing all phasers at precisely the same time would require an awful lot of power generation and probably would not be practical. But you surely could rotate your firing sequence and alternate between the strips to keep locked onto a moving target and shoot several phaser shots simultaneously if attacking more than one adversary or to concentrate a large amount of firepower on a weak point of an enemy. But not all 18 at once. :)
Wow just found your channel, and I like hearing about ships. About the Prometheus class I love the design, but personally I don't like the multi vector mode. What would a Prometheus class that had the ascetics of the class but no separation functions. How would you guys think a none separation version be equipped, support craft, etc....keep up the great videos.
Once Agents of Yesterday goes live, I'll be posting screencaps of them to the Trekyards Facebook group as I got into my savings to buy all of them and would like to share.
There actually was a Nebula class vessel named Prometheus during S1or S2 of DS9. It must have not lasted very long if the Prometheus from VOY took its place few seasons later!
sovereign class is 685.8 meters or 2250 ft don't know where the hell you get 625 meters and it's top speed was 9.985. that is to official top speed by the way.
Iv never liked ships that separate, I like the Prometheus tho but would prefer her lose the MVAM (Multi vector assault mode) and the bottom two necells
Trying to figure out the logic behind the Star Fleet registry is right up there with figuring out how the Republicans choose their presidential candidates.. The Defiant NX-74205 and then later NCC-75633 should have been NCC-1764 - A, B, C of bloody D... Oh well just add it up to all the other inconsistencies we all know and love.
The Enterprise was "special" to Starfleet, that's why she carried on with the Alpha numeric after the registry. The US Navy today does not do that. The carriers Enterprise, of which so far have been 2 are CV-6 and then CVN-65. The next Enterprise will be CVN-80. Just think, they were going to decom the Enterprise in STIII before Kirk stole it, possibly would have been scrapped or became a museum item. In any case, the next Enterprise probably wouldn't have been 1701. The Enterprise that became Enterprise 1701-B was probably going to be the next Enterprise anyway and maybe would have had a different number. I think NCC-2701, would have been cool. Enterprise 1701-A was a different ship that was renamed for Kirk himself and only was a commissioned ship for 7 years as Enterprise ((2286-2293). Since they honorarily assigned this Enterprise with NCC-1701-A, it just stuck as an Honor to the Enterprise, and that the name represents the Flagship of the Federation.
Nice video. The unfortunate missing file errors are a nuisance. Perhaps quickly delete and upload a corrected version? I won't hold it against you. Or keep it as it is, I also won't mind - it's fine.
Why not just make 3 "normal" ships and have them fly as a wing? All the additional mass required to have the ships couple and decouple, not to mention having to compromise an ideal design so they can fit together, would make the ship less effective than 3 separate vessels.
i mostly agree with you but one advantage of combining is that you significantly decrease the surface are that the shields need to protect allowing for a denser shield. the second advantage i can think of is that for some reason small ships in star trek tend to be slower at warp speeds than large ones
kidsachamp Well, we know that ships can extend their shield bubble around nearby ships, and given the computing power demonstrated, there's no reason the ships couldn't simply dock with one another or fly in tight formation, to present a smaller target. As for warp, remember that Voyager was faster than the Enterprise-D, so size isn't the only determining factor.
extremely close formation flying would be extremely dangerous and for speed the intrepid and the Prometheus are both similar in size. the sabre class with a crew of 60 would be a better model to be one of the 3 small ships it has a speed of warp 9.7 or about 2/3 the speed of the Prometheus
biostemm because it is more expensive to build three ships than building a ship that only need one crew and can still give the fightpower of three ships
So it's more expensive to, say, build 3 ships of the same model, than to build 1 ship that breaks up into 3 sub-ships that can combine, yet still operate independently? I'm sorry, I don't buy it.
this ship is a beauty...too bad the multi vector assault is a gimmick that reminds me of transformers....star trek pretends so hard to be sci-fi and ends up being space fantasy....but i do adore this ship....and the STO Hestia is absolutely amazing looking!
this is the closets we ever got to a post dominion war star trek show showing what the ships might be like see everyone wants a post dominion war show just a small bunch wants another prequel so instead of getting advanced technology we get shoehorned into the stupidest era ever
So which show or movie was this ship on? I missed it, just like Star Fleet to let one of there best ships to be stolen. J. J. Abraham sucks and should not be allowed to have anything to do with ST.
What i dont get is, romulans in fed space takes over ship and kills crew, thats a act of war right?, for a tactical war ship, its design is poor its not funny, i think rick made a good looking ship, i think starfleet would have made something different, bit more like the defiant.
it's a classified ship. starting a war would expose the existence of it to the whole federation. people would question why there is such a secret thing. don't like stuff like that in star trek anyway. reminds me of todays world.
That's the Fed's weakness. The Romulans are always doing things like this but the Feds will never declare war against them. They're too goodie goodie. :)
The Federation was busy with dealing with the Dominion and they were still losing WITH the Klingons’ help. (They even mention it in the episode.) They could ill-afford to fight a war on two fronts. EMH: I'm afraid you don't have that luxury. There are two ships at stake here, yours and mine. Now, I need to know more about what's happening. Is the Federation at war with the Romulans? EMH2: No. The Romulans haven't gotten involved in our fight with the Dominion.
and now to present the least Trek ship ever. Talk about a stupid design from the top to bottom. Splitting the ship up to make it a better combat ship is the biggest joke ever created. ohhh wait there is a worse one..... 1701-J
The English guy needs to flipping slow down his speech, enunciate each & every word, because no one can understand his always-rushed way of speaking. It’s like he’s on helium & way too much caffeine. Dude, your voice is hurried, muddled, & we can’t quite understand what you say. It’s s challenge to even try to recognize your speech patterns. Take a deep breath, pause, relax, & talk in a more easygoing & relaxed manner. If you can’t do that, be quiet, find someone else to host your part of the show here. Your hyperactive way of talking gets on my nerves, & it gets real old, real fast.
3 parts ..... So a multi vector attack video?
YES :D
Ahhhhhh good one ;P
I needed to subscribe! This channel is wonderful, especially for those of us that love the details of Trek ships. Great job, Trekyards!
Great episode. Looking forward to part 2/3. :-)
For this design, i especially love those "baby" warping cells that are coming out at the top and bottom of the upper section, when it is detached :-)
I love the fact that the newer classes (Sov, Akira, Steamrunner and Prometheus) returned to that blue circular deflector dish look (yellow in the sovvy's case).
I really prefer the 360degree look over the galaxy and intrepid' oval/eye-shape look...
Cool video, the younger guy is the spitting image of young Bob Dillion
I really like the T6 Hestia class -- really gives it some color. I wish Prometheus and VOY were plastic kits! Some day, hopefully!
In 1/1000 scale Prometheus would be the size of my Excelsior class models!
About freaking time.
Favourite class of ship ever!
Woot this is something I have been looking forward to :)
Got a high 5 from the Commander for this also being my favorite ship!
Wow, the channel is getting near 2 million views VERY quickly!
Same here. I fly in STO, and I love it.
I still love this ship.
Avoozl It IS a very stunning and memorable design; one of the best of the TNG era for sure!
If I remember correctly the Sovereign Class was 685m, not 625m. I know she's longer than the Galaxy at 642m. Have fun at the rest of the con in Denver, look forward to the next Captain's Log.

I don't think I heard this tidbit in the video but the Prometheus was planned to separate into five different modules.
Would love to see USS Prometheus with full Star Trek Voyager upgrades after return from Delta quadrant
My favorite ship!!
Notice how you can see the ships firing phasers at warp. I assume they eventually figured out how to extend the warp field around the phaser beam to enable this to happen?
6:59 11:10 i do LOVE a side by side 18:39 there are 3 sections

Thanks, I didn't know that until now...
I wanna see a show about a Prometheus-class on a scorched-earth campaign through Romulan space.
It's my favourite ship of all time
Since they all have Greek names. I would call mine in STO the USS Kratos. :)
Star Trek 101: Watch Trekyards on RUclips for all your info about the ships.
I was really neutral with this design when it first came out because it's so pointed that it's almost not a ST Fed ship, although the multi vector attack feature was a really cool feature (and sensible, separating ships just seems like too potentially great an advantage to not take advantage of if they have to make a more combat orientated vessel.), but over time it's kind of grown on me a lot. a tough ship. But cool as all starships to bear the Enterprise.
I'm not seeing a deflector on the primary or secondary separated hulls.
That low registry number always bothered me. They really should defer to people like the Okudas, if they're not sure how the numbers work.
Wish the USS Promethus was USS Enterprise-E I love the Promethus class starship.
The intermix equations and field equations on that thing must be a nightmare.

Part 3 you say. No Part 2?
Whoops!
Would be great if you guys and Rick could build Star Trek ships in the game Space Engineers! I bet they would be totally awesome *dreams*. Ever seen the game?
Um maybe testing starship prototypes on the Romulan border isn't a good idea?
well mainly since this ships Multi Vector Assault mode was tested by the romulans who actualy stole the ship itself before a smal taskforce showed up and prevented this ship from falling into enemy hands

10:30 Wtf, that sounds super dangerous
How do we know that the E's max warp was Warp 9.95? There is no canon literature AFAIK that actually states this.
18 independently operating phaser strips? So it can hit 18 different targets at once, presuming it were surrounded?

A single tricobalt, clip shows two.
I would have put bigger Nasells on the top or another 2 of them on top.
Wow just found your channel, and I like hearing about ships. About the Prometheus class I love the design, but personally I don't like the multi vector mode. What would a Prometheus class that had the ascetics of the class but no separation functions. For some reason I thought you guys already did this ship.
we did a basic mission briefing...this is the full episode on her with designer and full facts and figures!
Sweet! Thanks! Personally, it's not one of my favorite ships. I'm curious what you guys think about the new TOS era ships coming to STO.
Once Agents of Yesterday goes live, I'll be posting screencaps of them to the Trekyards Facebook group as I got into my savings to buy all of them and would like to share.
www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/game-pack/detail/1315-temporal-special-agent-pack
well when voeger gets home i will steel all the transfasing and put them in the prometheus and the defint there starfleet would never die.
btw, the USS Prometheus (Nebula Class) was seen in Star Trek Bridge Commander set in 2378.
Whoops game designers.
Well, the theory that the name was used as a cover in an attempt to fool the Dominion would make that scenario valid.
There actually was a Nebula class vessel named Prometheus during S1or S2 of DS9. It must have not lasted very long if the Prometheus from VOY took its place few seasons later!
+Mark Bernero correct! I think it's S2, 'Second Sight' and it had a higher registry number, NCC-71201.
These registry numbers are really crazy!
2:53 LCARS failure =P
Thing that always bugged me is the fact that, characters keep saying that weapons can't be fired at warp. THEN they fire them!
3:02 it says media offline
sovereign class is 685.8 meters or 2250 ft don't know where the hell you get 625 meters and it's top speed was 9.985. that is to official top speed by the way.
If Captains' Kirk or Pike had this ship, you would have check their underwear.
Multi vector assault mode made little sense.
What is that at 2:54 ?
Iv never liked ships that separate, I like the Prometheus tho but would prefer her lose the MVAM (Multi vector assault mode) and the bottom two necells
in what show does this scene take place?
First Order Stormtrooper voyager
It's from the episode "message in a bottle"
now he said the prometheus was the most powerful ship in the alpha quadrint then how did it get takenover
It doesn't matter how powerful a ship is, if it's inexperienced and completely outnumbered it's not going to win.
also the fact that there were 4 crewmembers on board, makes it so much easier to take over
Voyager used two tricobalt devices not one to destroy the array
popular toy that broke into 5 pieces...hum...I wonder what it could be...*insert obvious series crossover joke here*

Thats a bad ass ship
don't call me stupid but the enterprise e's top speed was warp 9.995 not 9.95
is the Prometheus still capable of warp 9.99 when it is split in 3 parts?
Bret Williams yes!
I wonder if each can do warp 3.33...
best ship ever created by star trek
Could the fighters be the Valkyrie from the Star Trek: Invasion Playstation One game?
Man, that game was so frickin' great
tigerbread78 I know right, I wish they should show it on TrekYards. They did ST:0 shps, why not that.
Captain science officer here the media dropped out please please do a speculation on new tv series and vr game
Nice video. The unfortunate missing file errors are a nuisance. Perhaps quickly delete and upload a corrected version? I won't hold it against you. Or keep it as it is, I also won't mind - it's fine.

So which show or movie was this ship on? I missed it, just like Star Fleet to let one of there best ships to be stolen. J. J. Abraham sucks and should not be allowed to have anything to do with ST.

Interesting but jesus christ is it ugly
Well I disagree with you on it being ugly, I think it looks very appealing.
The most ridiculous class ever designed. This thing looks more like a transformers toy than a star trek ship.
