    very very good explanation. I have been playing 57 years and never better than 5 handicap at my lowest, now I know why. I had forgotten the fundamentals with which I began in 1965!! In those days I saw Arnold Palmer and later, Jack Nicklaus, live, at Wentworth. BOTH of them did exactly what you so deftly recommended in your superb video. Thank you again. Mike Bayley.

      For golfers like me ,who are older than 80 years old , playing off the red tees makes for a more enjoyable, sensible
      game with realistic opportunities of achieving a good score.
      If you live long enough , you young golfers might be still playing when you are 80 years old.

    As always Coach… Great video! It took me a while to get that ball position to my armpit considering I had it up there by my left toe all the time and my club path was definitely affected. LOL. I also realized I needed a wider stance considering I didn’t feel my swing was repeatable for a while because of that.

    • @Vnam72

    As you state it, the backswing is a mirror image of the follow-through at the end of the swing. Yet due to less acceleration on the backswing the front foot does not raise as much as the back foot at the end of the swing. Genius. Now I judst need to apply that understanding

    Hi Coach, after a severe shoulder injury a year ago, I’m having to adjust my set-up and swing. I’m doing everything you mentioned (pretty much) but a couple of things you didn’t mention, and appear obvious in this video, is that your right foot is set back to a slightly closed position and your clubhead is slightly closed too. When I do that, my drives are much straighter, so long as my swing path is slightly right of the target line too, of course. Would you agree? Cheers and thanks for any help. Attack angle has to be achieved from physics and not intent. When it's attempted through intent the left arm will collapse and the shut the face. From the player's intention they're believing they're hitting down on the ball but the physical placement of the ball only allows and positive angle of attack.

      I tried 3 different 60gm shafts and monitored my ball flight. Ended up with rdx smoke stiff flex 60gm shaft. It is easier to square the club face and therefore my fade reduces from 15 yards to around 5yrds. Also being lighter allows me to generate more club head speed

    Chances are, a golfer needs to move the golf ball farther back in the stance rather than forward to hit the ball farther with a Driver. What matters is how long a golfer can maintain the angle created between their hands/wrists and the golf club. Most golfers cannot keep that angle past center of stance before the club is released through the impact zone. Move the ball forward in the stance would cause a weak hit because the clubhead is now moving slower. It is also much harder to square the club face at impact with the ball way forward in the stance.

    • @tejanochris
      @tejanochris Год назад

      Very true. I always hit my driver with my ball in the middle and it is better for me.

    • @erichansen3641
      @erichansen3641 Год назад +1

      @@tejanochris I was carefully studying Justin Thomas' driver swing and discovered that he tees the ball lower than I was expecting and his bottoming out of his driver club head on the downswing was at the center of his stance through a point inside his left heel. At the moment of impact his club head is traveling flush to the ground. For him to make contact with the ball tee'd inside his left toe, he would have to tee the ball extremely high. Ridiculously high like you see the long drive champions doing in competition. Justin Thomas is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 150-160 pounds. He is one of the PGA tour longest drivers with drives well over 300 yards. Freezing his club head with the driver on the downswing, I discovered that his driver shaft is quite bowed at a point just right of center of stance. At a point flush with his left foot toe, the driver shaft has already straightened back out and all the energy of his swing has been spent by that point. The fastest point of his swing appears to be inside (right) of his left heel. Justin tees his ball for his driver past center of stance but right of his left heel. Very standard setup. Not anything extreme like you see these long drive competition drivers attempting to perfect with the ball tee'd off the left toe and tee;d very very high.

    There is an easier way to hit longer drives. Use a quality two piece golf ball. Tee it up higher and swing smoothly. This is the key. As soon as you hit the ball, run as fast as you can in the opposite direction. By the time the ball lands you should have added 20+ yards. Works every time.
