Random Battles are old school RPG, so it wasn't ever a problem for me. Maybe you could argue they showed up just a hair too often but like, the SMT franchise was meant to kick your ass lol- even if Persona is "easier" by comparison it's still pretty brutal when it wants to be.
random battles is just the awful way Japanese games like to do progression, instead of having fewer more meaningful encounters and quests, they just bombard you with thousands of brainless, trivial fights, it's truly awful.
Now get on that Persona 2 duo-logy and then see if P1 is still a masterpiece. Best way to play is either a PSP emulation or PSX translation emulation of the first P2 game.
Don't get me wrong. I love P1 and P2 but my god the battles and random encounters took years out of my life. I'm just happy the PSP version of P1 had the singer for P3. Also, the Ice Queen side quest was awesome.

Love this game, love this soundtrack, but _man_ does it ever not fit with this game's atmosphere. They took the comparatively dark, creepy game that was the PSX original, just slapped some unused songs from P3 on it and called it a day - bizarre mixture. Genuinely laughed my ass off when School Days started for the first time.
Yeah, honestly it bugs me to this day why the fuck Shoji Meguro changed the whole soundtrack out of the blue, he was the director of this remaster after all. I suspect that this change received some kind of backlash because in the P2 remaster they just remixed the music (and you can change to the original ost in the menu). Thank God that there's a PSX music patch out there :')
This will always be my favorite persona game. It isn’t objectively as good as 2 is but it’s still so fun to play especially snow queen quest. OGs remember the struggle of the PS1 version.

I hears this battle theme with the persona 1 costume for Joker in P5 royal and I was like "wow that's a banger". I was even more pleasantly suprised that the victory soundtrack was "dream of a butterfly" which is just awesome.
