Alex, this SO true. There's no way that you are going to get through ALL of the material that you have amassed and what has also been given to you. I know that what you are saying is true, because it has worked for me. joe.

    #1 keep a planner
#2 find out what helps you relax each week/each day
    #3 dark chocolate (caffeine)
    #4 purdue owl
    #5 group study sessions
#6 understand grad school is not like undergrad
    #7 be social
    #8 pursue professional development opportunities
    #9 caffeine (again)
#10 know that the hard work will pay off

  • @blakelyjaz

#10 reminds me of a quote by Mohammed Ali: I hated every minute of training. But I told myself, "Don't quit, stay with it and spend the rest of your life as a champion!"

I am not one to comment on RUclips videos, I just enjoy. But I'm in grad school as well in the mental health field, and these tips are universal. This is what helped me through my first semester, exactly what she described. Relying on my faith did make it easier to do the rest. Also life us generally a hard thing to go through add grad school in the mix and it gets increasingly more difficult, consider a therapist just as maintenance.

Is it possible for you to give me tips on the graduate program in mental health. I'm going to be going into grad school this fall and I really would like to know what to expect. Thanks!

    • @shernellelibox1972
      @shernellelibox1972 9 лет назад +3

sexyhyppolite Sure thing! First off congratulations! I am in a mental health counseling program and the theme thus far has been self awareness. Due to the nature of the work of mental health, you will be constantly becoming aware of your thoughts, feelings and behavior. It is an emotional process, but a great one! Enjoy the process and don't be afraid to share your experiences and open up. For me, most of my professors are mental health counselors or psychologists which makes for great professors because they care more about you becoming a good therapist (that includes constantly encouraging you to engage in self-care) and not necessarily about your grades. Also because they are mental health professionals they are very supportive and understanding. Also depending on the school that you're about to go to, be prepared to learn about 'multiculturalism' in every class and social justice and advocacy as well. Best of luck! Jade's tips in this video will be extremely helpful as well.

sexyhyppolite The end goal for my career is to work with UNICEF (it's my dream job... lol) Education wise my end goal is a PhD in Clinical Psychology (emphasis in Child and Adolescent Psychology). What about you? What exactly are you going to be studying in Mental Health?

This is such a great video with amazing advice! My favorite piece of advice you gave is that you have a group of women in your cohort that you work with, lean on, and hold accountable! I would say that this tip is what makes or breaks your grad school experience. Yes, you can make it without friends in your program. But you will be miserable. The key to an enjoyable experience in grad school is surrounding yourself with other motivated grad students!

I really dont know how some people can pull off a 4.0 average even working on their BA. Sometimes it just seems undoable when you take 5 classes a semester and happen to get 5 midterms the same week + papers due the week after the midterm + 50 pages of reading a class for the week.
I find that sometimes even not focusing on the right thing when taking notes in class might lower your grade significantly. Im a Philosophy and Economics double major and I'm really struggling to get even a 3.3.
    I study in Canada however...

Thanks for sharing :) I am struggling as I was away from school for 3 years working before starting my masters in August this year, in a new country, it was really difficult to get back to studying and adapting. Appreciate your honest experiences ! Really Thanks again

Late to comment here but video helped me a lot! :) I'm about to commence a Masters in Public Health (part time) this year and need to find the balance full-time work with study, social life and hobbies (gym life in particular) :). Scary, exciting and making the most out of it! Gives a helpful insight to grad school :)
