Thank you so much for your comments, it really means a lot! I’m so glad you found the videos helpful! Copic markers are super awesome and a lot of fun to work with! Enjoy! 😊
Too. corporation should really consider these videos, absolutely straight to the point, fun too watch and most of all you learn the basics. All 5 parts where professionally put together and packed with everything you need to know to get started with Copic markers. 4 years later and these videos hold tremendous value.
I appreciate your kind feedback so much! I’m glad the videos were helpful, I tried to gather all the answers I had questions for while I was researching and getting started. Have fun with your new Copics! ☺️
I’m so impressed with this video and the way you explained how the Copic markers are supposed to work. I bought the set of bold primaries as my first set and I haven’t really used them because I really wanted them, love the colors but didn’t really know what to do with them. I have two sets of three colors coming in the mail today and I’m so thankful for your video now because I now have an idea what I can do with the lighter colors mixed with the bold primaries. I got the set of three blue and the set of three violet colors because they’re my favorite colors and I’m working on a sketch book in abstract and impressionist drawings. I cannot wait to see what I can create with these lovely markers. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, you are appreciated. I subscribed to your channel even though we have different styles of doing our art I’m learning a lot already. 🌺💐🌷🌸💕
Thank you SO much for the wonderful comments and support! I bet your sketches are beautiful, Copics are so fun to work with. That’s the best way to buy them is to get your favourite colours first. I also share my fine art on my Instagram @LeanneLandArt - I don’t do much copic colouring there but I have been enjoying watercolour lately. Thank you so much for the sub! 😊💙
Thank you so much for the feedback! I know I had a lot of questions when I was starting out too, and it was hard to find everything in one place. I’m so glad you found the videos helpful! 😊
Brand new to card making and Copics. Originally boughtcSpectrum Hours but find them hard to hold as I have RA in my hands. These 5 tutorials were the bomb. I subscribed. Thank you soooo much. Blessings!
Oh, thank you so much for the kind comments and for subscribing. I’m glad you found the beginner series helpful! That’s interesting about the Copics with your RA - I’m so glad you found they worked well for you. I imagine the softer shape of the barrel on the marker is what makes them easier to use. They’re definitely a beautiful marker to colour with. Happy card making! 😊💕
Thank you SO much for this series. I am brand new to Copics and I've been scouring RUclips for help. Your videos have helped SO much! I am now a subscriber and look forward to watching your videos. Thanks again!!
I’m brand new to the Copic world. This series you created was so incredibly helpful. Thank you very much for all the time and effort that went in to it!
Thank you so much for the kind comments and feedback - the Copic marker system is literally the best I’ve found, and they’re so enjoyable to work with. I’m glad you found the video series helpful! 😊
Thanks for watching, I'm glad the videos were helpful! 😊 I would recommend starting with your favourite colours or the colours you find you use most in your artwork. And then choosing a light or a dark version of that colour to go with it so you can create some soft blends. For example, if you choose a medium blue then finding a light blue or a dark blue to blend with that will make a nice gradient and help you to create highlights and shadows to whatever object you're colouring. That's how I started and built my collection up from there. I hope that helps!
Great question! I really struggled at the beginning with collecting lights-mediums-darks of a single colour group. Just having a couple markers I could create light and dark gradients with. I found the Copic skin colour set really helped to boost my collection. I got great practice with the different values and it helped for not only colouring skin tones, but animals that were brown or tan as well (dogs, bears, squirrels, etc.). I'm definitely grateful for that purchase! :)
Thank you for sharing all this wonderful information. I love watching copic marker colouring and have wondered where I would start from in building a collection. X
Thank you so much for checking out the series! I know I struggled with the same questions when I was starting out with my collection. I’m so happy you found the videos helpful! 😊
Great videos! So much good information 😊 I'm not sure if it was your accent, but Barely Beige has a long A as in "bare" Before you think I'm being nitpicky, I ALWAYS want someone to let me know if I'm saying things wrong because I don't hear very well ❤️
Thank you! I spent a lot of time researching them, and I wanted to share my experience and what I had learned. It always helps to pick up new tips along the way too. Thank you for the kind comments! :)
Norine Mueller I’m really late, you watched this a year ago and I’m just now seeing it. I’m grateful it’s still here for me to see, great series of videos.
Ahh, I hadn’t thought about it before but it would be fun! I did some colouring once with a colouring book calendar I received with my Copics and I really enjoyed doing that. I’ll give it some thought. Thanks for the suggestion! 😊💕
Thank you for your information. I’m a beginner and you definitely have helped me. I’m curious where do you fine the best sale buying them. I did get 2 sets on sale at hobby lobby but the individual ones are $7.99. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You are so welcome! For the best deals, I found buying my markers individually at Michael's with a discount coupon each time was the best way. It took a while to build up my collection but that gave the best deal. I hope that helps! Happy colouring! 🙂
I like to use Memento ink in the colour Tuxedo Black. I usually buy it at Michaels. It doesn’t make a mess of my clear rubber stamps, and also doesn’t bleed when I use it with Copics. 😊
The colours in the Copic Sketch skin tone set are E00, E11, E13, E15, E18, R20. After collecting this base you could also experiment with different colours as the shadows - purples or blues, etc. It’s such a versatile set and was a huge boost to my collection.
Shop Leanne your videos helped me so much I also googled about the code numbers and letters and now I have a great understanding about the saturation and tints etc:) thank you so much for answering me; I did see on various tutorials that they also use E000 The tutorial by copic also says to gave 3 from the same family and preferably choose each by 2 digits of difference To have a light, med and dark:) Meaning the last digit if the marker:)
Thanks for that info, that is a good rule of thumb to follow for blending! I’m so glad you found the videos helpful as well! Mostly they were things I learned by experience or trial and error over the past couple years I’ve been using them and I wanted to share. I’m glad it was helpful! 😊
Thank you so much. I am really new to copic. I always wanted to try them out but because of the expense I shopped around and found a set of 12 on amazon a few months ago. Well luckily for me I wasn't working on something special. After a few minutes they started leaking pretty badly. I wasn't pressing hard or for a long time with any particular color. I did notice though nearly all of them were leaking. The brush would get dripping wet and then all of a sudden I had a blob of color. Was I doing something wrong or just get a bad set? I even thought maybe they were used and perhaps over filled by someone. Can you please explain this to me? Thanks again.
This is quite common with new markers that are full of ink. When this happens you just need to pull the caps off both ends so that the pressure in the barrel can equalize. Once the ink levels go down a bit in the marker you’ll notice it will stop happening. I have a few new markers that I have to currently do this with. But once I pull the caps off I notice the difference almost instantly. I hope this helps! 😊
I’m not certain if you mentioned this but the two numbers have nothing to do with each other. The first number is for saturation and the second number’s for depth.
That's correct - the alphabetic classification is for the colour family, the first number identifies the saturation depth, and the second number refers to the value or intensity.
I prefer to store them horizontally so that pressure doesn’t build up too much at one end. But they can be stored vertical as well. If you do find the pressure building up (which can lead to ink blots coming out of the nib as you’re using the markers) then you can easily equalize the pressure by taking both caps off to let air in both ends.
I have Staz On too, but the reason I don’t prefer it is because it take a lot longer to dry, and it doesn’t clean off from my stamps very well. I can easily clean off Memento with baby wipes. The advantage to Staz On is that it gives a crisper impression. I usually only use it if I’m stamping fine detail or small lettering though.
I am really thankful for all five videos!! I'm a beginner Copic colorer and learned so much from you!!

I've been on the fence about purchasing or rather "investing" in Copic Markers. This was very helpful info. Thanks for sharing this series.
I'm glad it was helpful! 🙂

Ooo, that’s very exciting! Enjoy your new Copics! 😊
What are some good color combinations to start out with? Thank you for your information! Big help, I learned a lot!

What do you recommend buying first? If you could go back would you have bought differently?

very interesting! I like the pale colours most as they're most versatile, and get used a lot more. Easier to layer, as you note!
Thank you so much for these five videos.

Thank you. Never thought about the mixed media paper. Makes sense, especially if you want to use other medias with the markers.
+Robin Craig The mixed media is one of my favourites!
Awesome videos! Very helpful, even for those who have used them for awhile, and are not artists!

What kind of stamp ink do you use that does not bleed when you begin coloring
I like to use Memento ink in the colour Tuxedo Black. I usually buy it at Michaels. It doesn’t make a mess of my clear rubber stamps, and also doesn’t bleed when I use it with Copics. 😊
Which are a must for different skin tones; I want to purchase specially to create different skin tones; thank you

How should you store copic markers
I prefer to store them horizontally so that pressure doesn’t build up too much at one end. But they can be stored vertical as well. Have only 5 colours of copic the price is expensive here in nz.
Margaret House If you don't mind buying online the site ScrapbookPal.com sells copics for $5.24 instead of 7.99!!!
I so agree!!!
What about Staz On ?
I have Staz On too, but the reason I don’t prefer it is because it take a lot longer to dry, and it doesn’t clean off from my stamps very well. I can easily clean off Memento with baby wipes. The advantage to Staz On is that it gives a crisper impression. I usually only use it if I’m stamping fine detail or small lettering though.
