Yeah, I drive one daily for work and there has been a time or two where the sun glare surprised me and suddenly I'm panicking in worry of rear-ending someone in that half a second the visor covers the ENTIRE WINDSHIELD (from the eye).
I actually use one of these for work (2018 LR model) I'm a paramedic. Ours are kitted out and slightly souped up. I spend 12 hours a day, 4 days a week in my truck. In almost all aspects, it's a HUGE step up from the traditional F450s we used before. It handles better, it's faster, and the SATNAV... Oh my god the sat nav. It has literally saved lives...
I have been driving a 2020 for 4 years. Worst seats ever, and no torque and gear hunting on the 10 speed. It needs a V8 or a biTurbo V6(eco boost). Those are it's main flaws.
These are absolute hero machines in Europe and especially in the UK... an absolute design original. From my perspective, its up there with the mini and the vw beetle
And the new ones in EU are that crappy 2.0L EcoBlue Diesel now. We have the 2.2L Duratec one (highest spec/power), at least those last long. But this 2.0L one... we'll just pick another brand. Sad stuff, I love the interior and how it handles, etc.
Exactly. All disels which is annoying because not every van owner is doing 25,000 miles a year. Some only do short journeys so the DPF eventually stops working causing more problems.
I drive a Transit 150 LR for work, and after driving an E150, the driving characteristics are massively improved. You had to almost fight the Econoline on the highway, and they were so underpowered with the 4.6. I really like driving the Transit, it's so much more comfortable to drive all day and it really scoots for a van.
I rented one of these to move out of my apartment. Having never driven a cargo van before, it was super easy to drive and great driving on the freeway. It was also nice having the lane keep assist and backup camera. Much better to drive, more tech and better looking than the econoline and current Chevy cargo vans.
Econolines are stressful to drive in a city. Suspension will hurt you, lack of acceleration will get you in trouble, steering had no input and never stayed on center. I actually left a job mostly due to being issued an E250. Transit is a huge leap forward!
I started working for Amazon a few weeks ago and drive a similar model van. These things are actually pretty legit and even without the rear/ slide door windows are not too hard to keep visibility/ spacial awareness. Of course the aftermarket backup camera helps a lot, but not bad vans at all
The Ford Transit has been the Backbone of Britain (where I’m from) for a couple of decades now, it’s great to see how popular they have become in North America. When I first heard about you guys having the Transit I was like Wow, cool!!
And of course I have to discontinue it. I only sat in one one time I know this is the right vehicle for me. I had to get a fast one on my car, got demolished and I’m driving a Dodge Caravan. It’s better than nothing but I really want the Ford transit for the visibility and my head not hitting the roof. I’m short to see it sucks
Ordering my high roof w/ eco boost tomorrow! Another thing to note is that with the introduction of AWD in 2020 transits, consumers finally have an alternative to the Sprinter van (AWD, high roof).
@@TedwardDrives When configured apples to apples, Sprinters are actually not much more expensive than Transits. 5%, maybe 10%. But since the 4x4 Sprinter only comes in diesel, the maintenance cost and difficulty in finding shops is alot worse. Not to mention the new diesel regulations which hurt sprinter economy / reliability
I spent a few years driving Transits all over the UK and developed a weird love for them. They're insanely capable, comfortable, and it's no wonder they're considered the "backbone of Britain ". I was genuinely excited when I saw them for sale when they first showed up in the USA, and was happily surprised when I had to rent a truck at UHaul and got given a transit instead of the econoline conversion. Felt like getting in to an old friend and I found driving it to be easier than my regular car at the time... and I hadn't driven a van since I moved to the US and started driving on the other side of the road. Years later, and even though I have zero practical purpose to drive a van every day, there's a part of me that still wants to. I can't explain it, but I genuinely do want to daily drive one of these things because they're just that good to drive. It's inexplicable compared to some of the other cars I've owned and driven over the years, yet still, somehow, I want 'this'... what the hell is wrong with me??
@@TedwardDrives Plus the stuff you carry doesnt need something to keep it from getting rained on or something... (and the added vertical possibilites must count for something too, right?)
The evolution in the comfort and handling in vans has come a long way just in the last 15 years or so. And as a European I’m not sure if I’ll ever come across that engine configuration in a Transit 😃 They are all 4-cylinder turbo diesels here 😃
My dad has a 2016 Transit 150. May i reiterate that those windows and windshield are huge! He always has the back completely full of equipment and even with all the extra weight it will get up to speed no problem at all. Its impressive
I have been wanting a van and doing my own conversion to suit my needs. This van with all wheel drive seems to be perfect for overland camping and touring the U.S. Now that I'm retired I can do the conversion taking the time to do the conversion right. I thought about hauling a tear drop trailer or a cargo trailer but the idea of getting stuck and not being able to back up is concerning; having been a Class A eighteen wheeler operator for several years taught me quite a bit. The idea of living the van life, although not always glamorous, still excites me. Thanks for sharing this video. BTW I love your idea of hauling a race car and living in your van. It gives me the idea to haul an ATV or a boat.
Change the transmission fluid if its used. It will last much longer trouble free! Full synthetic oil in motor only + Motorcraft filters. U will thank me.
Ford Transit = best van. I deliver all sorts of cars & vans as my job full-time job, and people often ask ‘so what’s the best car you’ve ever driven’, and I stop them in their tracks by truthfully answering that a Ford Transit is very hard to beat (despite me maybe delivering a new Merc at the time). Ford have retained the knack of designing vehicles for drivers, everything in the right place and it all works just like you’d expect it you. Bring on the next Ford Transit delivery!
It's fast until you start putting stuff in the back and loading it down, then it's a dog. The last thing you want also is those big glass windows so everyone can see what you have on the shelves. Also plan on whatever is on the shelves will end up on the floor over a big bump.
European vans have been like that forever. I drove a real old Mercedes van for the foodbank. We've had these transits running around for as long as I can remember as well. Most of the ease of use is those enormous mirrors. If they wouldn't look goofy on regular cars I'd love em on those too hahaha. Onwards to 100k subs!!
I think when people say something drives like a truck, it's really a reference to actual CDL-required commercial vehicles. Something that says Freightliner on the front, with the 3ft steering wheel. Something with the seat mounted on the ultra-sketchy suspension thing, which feels like sitting on a yoga ball while trying to drive. Pickups used to have a little of that flavor, but a modern F-150 is just a really big car.
Ford UK...the backbone of Britain. Its a shame most of the models are FWD now and have smaller engines, but the Transit still has a charm to it...if you can even say that about a van.
Vans have made so much progress, it's almost like driving a car, and I think manufacturers do a lot for comfort too because if you drive all day every day, and it pisses you off to even start the engine, just leaving the parking, your work day is gonna suck. In the heavy truck industry this something we care a lot and measure between brands, because driver give honest feedbacks (they spend more time in trucks than at home). I used to borrow a Peugeot J9 (check if you're interested), sliding front door openened the summer, diesel 4 cyl na right between the driver and the passenger in the dog house, slow as hell. That was punishment :D :D
@@janchapman3746 Enjoy. Great features & durability. Run only full synthetic engine oil ..proper viscosity rating & good brand ! (Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum etc). Try use midgrade gas its better! Great video on the new 2021 Ford Transit, loved the details you went into with this van. 10/10 video, even downloaded it with premium features. I can’t give this review any more respect.
I drove one a lot when I was working for Bmw, when the winter or summer was coming, moving all the customers wheels around from shop to shop. It's like a car, very easy to handle. The Renault Master I'm doing right now at work (fwd electric), it's not that good, still feels like a big work van, and the turning radius is terrible with the front cv axles.
@@maarioambel2005 yeah it's sad but I don't even know if they would sell a lot if we did over here. Sprinters had diesel v6 though, Ford wise I don't know if you can still get the in-line 5 diesel
Had a Ford transit connect for 5 months during the takata airbag recall. If more people got seat time in them, Ford would sell a bunch more. Very, very good for what it is. Needs an Ecoboost engine for more power.
One of my first car is my dad's (obviously white) 2017 EUDM Ford Transit 3.5t, medium lenght medium roof, full panel with no rear glasses, 170hp/405nm 2.0L EcoBlue Diesel with 6 speed DCT PowerShift Transmission. I love driving it, it's comfortable and it's pretty quick imho. One day, I got to my best friend's school to bring him home with the Transit and the policeman that was here to check the traffic pulled me over and wanted me to open the back doors, got me a lot of questions about what I was doing there.. 😅 Gotta write "free candies" on the side next time.
Ive owned 3 E series vans and an awd chevy half ton van and a 2015 transit mr 2wd with the powerstroke engine . As a camper the transit is weak tea compared to the e Series. It drives well on pavement and the handling is more car than truck due to reduced weight but that weight (steel) is critical when you want to get off the pavement. Here in the west getting to almost any remote campsite requires some off road durability which the transit has nil. After 22k miles the transit had more squeaks, leaks , and recalls than my 06 e 350 with almost 200k. And ford is still putting a known defective drive shaft in the transit. Splain that ford! I will never buy a new ford vehicle again . I currently own the 06 e350, a 16 f150 4wd and an 06 dodge 1500 4wd.
The lady at the end of the video once pulled out on the road for 35 years to get a chance to turn so now she has a serious brain damage and she has become the worst nightmare of the drivers who want to go just a little bit fast. Legend has it when you are in a rush in Massachusetts THAT WOMAN WILL BE HERE TO PULL OUT ON YOUR WAY AND DRIVE YOU CRAZY.
Did you say 275hp? We have had this kind of van for quite awhile in europe, but the ones you can rent here are like 100 to 180hp diesel. The new Transit is great, I think it feels the most car-like compared to other vans of this size (Mercedes, VW, Iveco, Fiat)
I think these are a great alternative to the F150s that most North Americans love. You get WAY more bed length in a Transit, and it's enclosed. Plus, parents with kids could simply park somewhere, walk to the back for feeding or diaper changes and continue on their way without stepping into the mud. I just wish for higher towing capacity, especially in the passenger versions. 10,000 lbs would be nice, but some configurations are as low as 2000 lb.
@@EnjoyFirefighting, Transits are available in 3 roof heights. It's truly a full-size van. You may be thinking of the Transit Connect, which is basically a van version of the Focus.
Now you got me checking the local dealerships. This would make an excellent choice to tow my bike around the country and be able to spend the night in it if equipped correctly.
Would’ve loved to have one of these back in my motocross and road racing days👍. Waaaay better than a pick up truck, easier to load and your bike/gear stays clean and dry👍; plus you have a place to camp out when you set up your pit. Beauty.
I’ll hopefully be importing a new one from the us to the netherlands this year! I don’t care about the cost but i wanted to know the difference between the diesel and gas V6’s and your video helped me out alot! Thanks so much tedward and happy new years!
We have the current Ford Transit at work and tbh ... I'm absolutely not happy with it. Yes it is much better than the previous Ford Transit Custom, at least it has a little bit more leg room for the driver and co-driver, but in the end it's still a Transit. We only use it for the less important, less urgent stuff and only in the light 3.5t medium roof van configuration while we use the Sprinter in a roughly 5t configuration with a large box. Also it doesn't offer much clever storage space in the cab, ... You should drive it at high speeds in wet conditions ... the wipers will bang against the a-pillars, and backing up can be tricky with wet windows on the side; ROlling them down doesn't help much as the front part of the side windows doesn't go down, and that's exactly the sightline onto the mirrors
Curious if you think the NA motor would be fine for a High Roof Extended Transit would have enough power for a full camper build. I know the ecoboost motor is amazing but more complex and has had issues with longevity.
Let me start with I live in Massachusetts and work in the Boston area daily, and the Storrow Drive story is 10000% accurate. I don't get it because they have to pass several signs, hit chains, and potentially more signs before they get to those bridges. It's really incredible. A unique state as far as drivers for sure. Anyway I drive a 2016 Transit 250 low roof, or regular roof?? Van daily for work. I love it over the older E250s. There's a few things I can't really stand but I've gotten used to. I really want one with the new dash such as yours in this video. I'll agree completely that they drive like cars. And the best part is the turning radius compared to the predecessor. I could go on and on but I won't on here unless someone wants to know! Thanks for the video!
In my country we used to use Mitsubishi median sized box trucks but now we are moving to these transit and IVECO size vans and we are still using these Mitsubishi box trucks but this is a great edition to the countries industry. It’s more economic and more quiet and friendly to others🥳 the other day I saw one stepping on it on a entrance ramp🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
We rented one and I drove it both on the highway and in the city. I was surprised how car-like it felt. Yeah it’s a big vehicle but the acceleration, braking and steering felt totally normal. It was very easy to drive and pretty comfortable too!
Thanks for review. Very peppy for a van. Could not pick up is it 3.5L eco boost or atmospheric? Could you drive them back to back? What are 0-60 numbers for each? Thank you.
In my honest opinion, the ford E series was a. Inch better overall van. Only thing the transit has over the old ones is the interior space however it seems like the engines and transmissions are garbage from my research. Considering the Chevy Econoline since it has much better and more reliable drivetrain options especially with the v8s
It’s nice going from watching your m3 videos and so on to watching an awd ford transit van lmao. Can’t say I’m disappointed and would gladly own either one haha
we had the sprinter since the late 90s but the first and second gen have issues with rusting ford replaced the e series with the transit for better fuel economy and it was more flexible and cheaper to make since the rest of the world has them anyways
I used to drive this many years ago. It was painful to drive this thing because ride quality was so bad. You feel everything from the road. Also when ur driving on highway the van just moves left and right due to wind. Maybe these got better now but the old one was real bad.

Gotta write "free candies" on the side next time.
It's so funny to see a Transit has a 3.5 275hp V6. In Europe we're stuck with diesels usually 4 cylinder. So much nicer sound!!!
You probably get better gas mileage
@@jconroy102 of course - but it's "sad economy" And more NoX and PM...
Plus you get manuals over there. 😢
Did you say 275hp? We have had this kind of van for quite awhile in europe, but the ones you can rent here are like 100 to 180hp diesel. The new Transit is great, I think it feels the most car-like compared to other vans of this size (Mercedes, VW, Iveco, Fiat)
I sure did! These have a. 3.5L V6 here with 275hp. Great for acceleration as well as some reasonable towing
What you said about “handles like a car” it was always that since the original Mk1 Transit was introduced in the late 1960s.
Happy 2021 everyone
I think these are a great alternative to the F150s that most North Americans love. You get WAY more bed length in a Transit, and it's enclosed. Plus, parents with kids could simply park somewhere, walk to the back for feeding or diaper changes and continue on their way without stepping into the mud.
I just wish for higher towing capacity, especially in the passenger versions. 10,000 lbs would be nice, but some configurations are as low as 2000 lb.
for the "walk into the back" part I'd rather choose a van with high roofline, and maybe not a Transit
@@EnjoyFirefighting, Transits are available in 3 roof heights. It's truly a full-size van. You may be thinking of the Transit Connect, which is basically a van version of the Focus.
@@questioner1596 No I don't ... we have the same size Transit like he tested in the video
Now you got me checking the local dealerships. This would make an excellent choice to tow my bike around the country and be able to spend the night in it if equipped correctly.
It would be perfect for that. Probably overloaded with a car trailer, but a bike would suit this well
Me too. Ordering another for the shop! Get the turbo Ecoboost!
I can finally drive passed a school in a White van without getting looks from everyone
Doesn't get much better. That's why almost every tradesman and small courier company in the UK used/uses them still.
We have the older versions for our ambulances and they’re awesome! Just a little short for a tall guy:(
I wish we got this V6 in the UK, all we get are 4 cylinder diesels with 6-Speed manuals
Would’ve loved to have one of these back in my motocross and road racing days👍. Waaaay better than a pick up truck, easier to load and your bike/gear stays clean and dry👍; plus you have a place to camp out when you set up your pit. Beauty.
True. They use them now for MotoX bigtime. *The Ford Transit & Dodge Sprinter are very popular* . Concensus is Ford is better built an lasts longer.
Ford transit all the way.love them.
I’ll hopefully be importing a new one from the us to the netherlands this year! I don’t care about the cost but i wanted to know the difference between the diesel and gas V6’s and your video helped me out alot! Thanks so much tedward and happy new years!
That’s cool! These v6s rev out really nicely.
Get the gasoline ⛽ version unless diesel is much cheaper there? We don't know in USA we don't use much diesel . #TransitVan
Happy new year!
Happy new year!
"You should pull me over and inspect the rear." That's what she said!
Should've reviewed the ecoboost version, that thing is friggin quick!
It's enough power just might be slower.
I wish they would offer this spec in Europe,
top of the line here is a four cylinder Diesel with 170Hp and FWD
Nice, they didn't totally cheap out on the radio. I like that center display
Bought 250, RWD - love it and you will too.
who needs a boring crossover when you can get one of these in their passenger spec haha
also the 3.5 EB version can do fat burnouts
When You Need To Deliver Amazon Same Day Delivery
Amazon just bought 35k+ vans from Ford cause these are excellent.
These vans are sweet, though I like the idea of a Transit Connect or Metris for carrying passengers
I drive the 2020 transit 250 high roof for work it’s great 🤙🏽
Happy new year!!🥂 can’t wait for more epic videos this year!
Anyway
I drive a 2016 Transit 250 low roof, or regular roof?? Van daily for work. I love it over the older E250s. There's a few things I can't really stand but I've gotten used to. I really want one with the new dash such as yours in this video. I'll agree completely that they drive like cars. And the best part is the turning radius compared to the predecessor.
I could go on and on but I won't on here unless someone wants to know! Thanks for the video!
bro istg this van revs as high and sounds almost identical to my '17 FPIU
These things got toughened by the competition in their original markets :)
I love the transit vans. Very easy to drive.
In my country we used to use Mitsubishi median sized box trucks but now we are moving to these transit and IVECO size vans and we are still using these Mitsubishi box trucks but this is a great edition to the countries industry. It’s more economic and more quiet and friendly to others🥳 the other day I saw one stepping on it on a entrance ramp🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
for a little v6 that motor sounds nice as hell not gonna lie sounds way better then my 2016 honda civic si
Transits are hard as hell to work on tho see them all the time at the Ford dealer I work at
I remember working on the econoline and doing engine work inside the car through the center console lol
@@TedwardDrives I've done some work on econolines we don't see them much any more tho because they only sell them to contractors now
It’s nice going from watching your m3 videos and so on to watching an awd ford transit van lmao. Can’t say I’m disappointed and would gladly own either one haha
Every mail mans dream ride
haha true. Would be fun to have one in RHD
22 Sprinter vans disliked this video.
😂
Happy new year tedford
Thanks for this video. Been considering buying one. What a versatile vehicle!
Taking delivery of an xl 250 awd ecoboost agate black transit in march!
My wife is retiring soon, and we're beginning to look at Vans we can build into our own Camper-How does this Van do on Fuel Economy?
Looks like fun for outdoorsy activities.
Hi Tedward, happy new year!!
hope you'll be able to drive the rivian/Amazon delivery van this year 😉
Love that cup holder position.
Also, Tedward, any chances of driving an Ecoboost version?
It’s interesting how USA suddenly discovers European style vans and their virtues. We had those for quite a while over here.
we had the sprinter since the late 90s but the first and second gen have issues with rusting
ford replaced the e series with the transit for better fuel economy and it was more flexible and cheaper to make since the rest of the world has them anyways
I've been looking for a not so tall, shorter smaller van with AWD and preferably with hybrid technology... harder than it is
I Love the Econoline. The Transit looks like crap something from overseas
Hope you have a prosperous 2021
You too Aarush!
“That’s a school, I don’t want to pull in a school in a white panel van...I have limits.” Hahah
Next time on Tedward: Why I love this Lanz Bulldog...
Happy new year tedward! Keep up the great work .
Thanks, you too!
I used to drive this many years ago. It was painful to drive this thing because ride quality was so bad. You feel everything from the road. Also when ur driving on highway the van just moves left and right due to wind. Maybe these got better now but the old one was real bad.
You should try to find an old Ford ranchero and drive it
I have one lined up for spring...hopefully it's still running haha
