I agree it's a brilliant movie, especially given it's the only modern big-budget WWI film to show the war from the American perspective. However I didn't think it was completely anti-war, many parts do seem quite jingoistic and celebratory of patriotism in battle.

@@KingofAmerica97 I didn't say it was completely anti-war. I said it didn't romanticize warfare. There's nothing wrong with it containing patriotism as that's how they give men fighting spirit in reality, especially given the period. Thanks for leaving your postmodern opinion though.

In contrast, when on defense, and if you have sufficient numbers to beat the enemy, Sun Tzu advises putting your own forces with their back to a river, so that every one of them knows that they can't retreat, and every man knows that if his side loses, he will die.

Ok I feel like if the Americans wanted to join the war they should have done it earlier because they were only in France for a few months, I'm not saying that it was a bad thing that America joined the war, just saying that they probably should have done it earlier when the allies were more desperate (1916). The Americans would've stood beside many men just as brave as them, survivors from the Somme, Passchendaele, Gallipoli, Verdun, and many other battles throughout WW1

More than 10,000 Soviet military specialists were dispatched to Vietnam: from missile crews, pilots, and signalmen to tank crews and doctors. A special role was also played by Soviet anti-aircraft gunners. They not only trained Vietnamese People’s Army (VPA) personnel, but also took part in fighting themselves. There are unverified reports of Soviet soldiers fighting alongside the Communist forces in the South though some dubious claimants swear to have seen tall white Russian speakers among NVA troops in the South.
I like the friendship that evolved between the Russian and the American pilot. For what it's worth, I have yet to find an anti-American Soviet-era film where they are seen as pure evil or cold-hearted capitalists except in Soviet-made animation. Whereas many Western films portray the Soviets as one-dimensional communist caricatures.
